Prev Obituary Page
Dan Havner, 62, born at Dutch Creek and a longtime resident of Yell County and former mayor of Ola, died on Monday, March 13, 2006 in his house in Kansas City, Missouri according to family members. Havner was Ola Mayor from March 1991 through 1994. He also served previously on the Ola City Council. Havner was found dead about 10:30 a. m. on Monday morning by his brother, Kenneth Havner.
According to family members, they said the Jackson County medical examiner indicated Havner died from smoke inhalation due to a fire in his home. The fire was apparently caused by a large box of pictures that Havner was sorting that was next to a gas hot water heater. The acetone in the photos and possibly some cleaning fluid next to the hot water heater apparently caused a flash fire, family members said. They indicated he did extinguish the fire, but the smoke apparently overcame him and his cat in the house. According to the Kansas City Star), they reported in their Monday edition that Germane Friends, a Kansas City Fire Dept. spokesman, said at 10:48 a. m. on March 131, his fire department received a 911 call reporting a house fire and a possible fatality. Kansas City police detectives and the Jackson County medical examiner were called to investigate. Friends said the fire in the home caused mostly smoke damage.
Havner s funeral is planned for this Saturday, March 18, at Waltreak Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Saturday morning at Cornwell Funeral Home. He is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lee Havner of Plainview and has a son, David Havner of the Antarctica, a 1984 graduate of Danville High School, and a daughter, Jennifer Havner of Danville, a 1993 graduate of Danville High School.
