Bowden, Mary Kathryn

Miss Mary Kathryn Bowden, age 81, of Belleville, AR died Tuesday, May 6, 1997 at Chambers Memorial Hospital in Danville. She was a retired waitress and a member of the Belleville Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, J. C. and Fred Bowden.

Survivors include a sister, Helen Reber of Danville and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral service was May 8, 1997 at the Belleville United Methodist Church with Rev. Joe Gramling officiating. Burial was in the Russell Cemetery in Belleville. Nephews served as pallbearers. Bowden, Olan James

Olan James Bowden, age 61, of Russellville, died Wednesday, September 18, 2002, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center. A son of the late James Garfield and Othel Kendrick Bowden, he was born March 26, 1941, in Russellville. He had retired after twenty years of service from the Goodyear Service Center in Russellville, and was a United States Navy veteran, where he served for four years at sea in the Atlantic Ocean during the Cuban crisis. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, David Dixon, and a sister, Roxie Hale.

Survivors include his wife of thirty-nine years, Elizabeth Ann Bowden; two sons, Jim Bowden of Dardanelle and Jerry Bowden of Dover; a brother, Harold U. Dixon of Conway, a sister, Frances H. Donahou of Russellville; a step-brother, Leon Ketcherside of Russellville; a step-sister, Katherine Underhill of Russellville; four grandchildren, Shelly, James, Jarret and Hannah Bowden; and several nephews and nieces, including Cathy Brourne.

Funeral service was September 20, 2002, at the Shinn Chapel with Rev. Bob Moore and Elder Harold Stumbaugh officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery in Russellville, by Shinn Funeral Service. Active pallbearers were Brad Moore, Allan Criswell, Gary and David Carothers, Michael "Bo" Bolanis and Ron Shaw. Honorary pallbearers were employees of Goodyear. Bowden, Ruby Christine

Ruby Christine Bowden of Ola died peacefully July 11, 2002. She was born May 1, 1935 in Heavner, OK to Omer and Dovie Jackson of Forrester, OK. She married James Wayne Bowden on November 19th, 1950.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Glenda Bowden and her husband, James Bowden.

Survivors include four daughters, Carolyn Courin of Plainview, AR, Linda Crawford of Carlsbad, New Mexico, Sharon Stafford of Parlier, CA and Debra Beer of Reedley, CA; her companion, William Hulsey of Ola, AR; an aunt, Nona Sliger of Reedley, CA; two brothers, Pete and James Jackson of Lowell, Arkansas. She also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Bowen, Butch

Butch Bowen, age 50, of Russellville, AR died Friday, March 8, 2002 at his home. He was born July 8, 1951 in Forrest City, AR to the late John Edward and Maggie May Kimbal Bowen. He was a Baptist, a Vietnam Army Veteran and a member of the VFW.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Cierra Michelle Bowen.

Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Butch and Gena Bowen of Newbern, TN, Donnie & Angela Partain of Dardanelle, AR, John and Tara Bowen of Russellville, AR and Douglas Bowen of Plainview, AR; a daughter, Shannon Bowen of Dardanelle, AR; a sister, Evelyn Scroggins of Lonoke, AR; nine grandchildren and a special friend, Brenda McPherson of Plainview, AR.

Cierra Michelle Bowen, age 15 months, of Dardanelle, AR, daughter of John and Tara Buchanan Bowen died Sunday, September 5, 1999 at her home in Dardanelle, AR. She was born May 23, 1998 in Russellville, AR.

Survivors other than her parents are, two brothers, John Bowen, Jr. and her twin brother, Justin Bowen both of the home; paternal grandfather, Butch Bowen of Oregon; paternal grandmother, Brenda McPherson of Dardanelle, AR; maternal grandfather and step-grandmother, Lonnie and Sharon Buchanan of Pleasant Plains, AR; maternal grandmother and step-grandfather, Mary and R. G. Norwood of Dardanelle, AR; also several uncles, aunts, cousins and a host of other relatives.

Service was September 7, 1999 at the First United Methodist Church in Dardanelle with Rev. Paul Seay. Interment was in Brearley Cemetery by Cornwell Funeral Home of Dardanelle. Bowen, Lottie Mae

HOT SPRINGS - Miss Lottie Mae Bowen, age 81, of Hot Springs, a retired Sunset Drive-in cashier, died Thursday. She was a former J. J. Newberry Co. soda-fountain manager, a past Noble Grand of Rebecca Lodge, a past Matron of the National Park chapter 568 of the Order of the Easter Star, and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 2278 and Highland Presbyterian Church.

Funeral will be at 2 p. m. today at Highland Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery by Hot Springs Funeral Home.

Bowen, Loyd Wayne

Loyd Wayne Bowen, age 72, of Booneville, AR passed away Sunday, February 20, 2000, in Fort Smith. He was a founding member of the gospel singing group "The Believers" and was the assistant manager at Town Country Supermarket in Booneville. He was also the chairman of the deacon board at Parkview Baptist Church in Booneville and was the music director at the church. He spent most of his life in both the grocery business and singing gospel music. He met his wife, Carolyn, as a member of the "Sunshine Trio" and they would form "The Believers together in 1968, recording eight albums and touring the country extensively. His first employment in the area was at Shipley Baking Company in Fort Smith and from there he opened Loyd's Food Mart in Booneville and he and his wife also built East Mart IGA, and were the owners-operators of Quality Discount Furniture before he returned to the grocery industry as an assistant manager at John's IGA in Booneville. He was a graduate of Danville High School.

He was preceded in death by, his parents, Home and Willa Mills) Bowen and a brother-in-law, A. C. Tygart.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Bowen of Booneville, AR; one sister, Roberta Esterling of Booneville, AR; two nephews and nieces-in-law, Mike and Sammy Tygart and Phil and Carol Tygart; one niece and nephew-in-law, Karen and Reza Ghassimi; a sister-in-law, Wendy Tygart; his mother-in-law, Willie Wright; six great-nephews; chosen family, Janet and Harold Heslep and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p. m. Thursday, February 24, at Parkview Baptist Church with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home in; Booneville, AR. Bowen, Orval Dixon "Cottontop"

Orval Dixon "Cottontop" Bowen, age 88, of Rover died early Thursday morning, March 4, 1982 in the Yell County Hospital at Danville. He was a native of Rover, son of the late W.D, (Will) and Amanda Umphers Bowen, He was a lifelong resident of Rover, a retired farmer and construction worker, a member of the Rover Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Willine Bowen Childres.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Inez Cathey Bowen of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Monroe Hunt of Plainview and Miss Laveana Bowen of Conway; one brother, Tucker Bowen of Hot Springs; two sisters, Miss Lottie Bowen and Mrs. Benard (Sue) James, both of Hot Springs; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 5, at the Rover Baptist Church with Rev. Claude Milles and Rev Jack McKennon officiating. Interment was In the Hunt Memorial Cemetery in Rover. Mrs. Susan Leta Bowen, age 80, died in a Little Rock hospital Monday, March 30, 1959. She was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church and had lived most of her life in Yell County.

William D. Bowen, age 70, native of Rover, Yell County, died in Hot Springs Friday night. He was a native of Rover and served as representative of Yell County in the state assembly in 1932. He was a retired carpenter.

Kerry Joe Bowers, age 44, of Jonesboro, AR died July 8, 2000 in Mtn. Home, AR in Lake Norfork. His body was recovered July 19th in 144 of water. He was born November 13, 1957 in Aurora, IL to Barbara Dobbs. He graduated in 1974 from Jonesboro High School and was owner and operator of University Signs Company in Jonesboro. He was a member of Greater Jonesboro Chamber of Commerce and was of the Pentecostal belief.

He is survived by, his long time loving companion, Marsha Medlock of Jonesboro, AR; his mother, Barbara Dobbs of Dardanelle, AR; two brothers, Ricky Lee Bowers and Paul Miller both of Jonesboro, AR; a sister, Ramona Dunnam of Russellville, AR; a niece, Angela Hunt of Plainview, AR; a nephew, Bubba Dunnam of Rover, AR and his beloved dogs.

Graveside service was held at Swifton with Sonny Allen officiating. Bowlan, Lorene

Lorene Bowlan, age 83, of Shawnee, OK, died Thursday at a local nursing home. She was born September 13, 1915 near Ola, AR to Milton and Ollie Bishop Sullivan. She married Orvan Bowlan June 2, 1935 in Shawnee. He preceded her in death. She was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church and lived in and around Shawnee most of her life.

Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Veld and Bob DeBolt of Tulsa, OK and Patricia McQuerry of Shawnee; sons and daughter-in-law, Royce Bowlan of Tulsa, OK and Steve and Kathy Bowlan of Shawnee; a sister, Ruby Wills on of Shawnee, OK; a daughter-in-law, Kitty Bowlan of Collinsville; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and a sister.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son, Larry Morris Proctor; two brothers, Arthur Boyd and Jewel Boyd; and a sister, Betty Brown.

Survivors include a son, Jearl Proctor of Pineville, Missouri; six daughters, Sharon Perico of Bellview, Florida, Karon Bishop of Howe, Texas, Ruby Woods of Rogers, Arkansas, Burlene English of Centerville, Debby Wolfe of Dover, and Beverly Gonce of Bellview, Florida; a brother, Jim Boyd of Dover; two sisters, Nean Dee of Arosa, California, and Tressie Sanders of Dover; sixteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Boyd, Emmaline "Emma"

Emmaline "Emma" Boyd, 92, of Dardanelle, went to be with the Lord Saturday, May 29, 2010. She was born May 31, 1917 to James F. and Lillie Bell Cossey of Russellville. Prior to moving to the Dardanelle Nursing Center, Mrs. Boyd spent many happy years in Russellville, Danville, London and Dover with her husband, the late Jesse Jewel Boyd.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and a sister, Ina Cossey Hill of Russellville.

She is survived by her three brothers, Buddy Cossey of Dardanelle, Lonnie Cossey of Moreland, Jesse Cossey of Dover; three children, Charlene Lile of Russellville, Jean Trimberger of Centerton, Jesse Leon Boyd of Dardanelle; five grandchildren; six step grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; numerous step great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Boyd, Melba Dean Lemons

Melba Dean Lemons Boyd, age 69, of Danville passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2002 at her home. Mrs. Boyd was born December 22, 1932 in Gravelly, Yell County, Arkansas to the late James Ethredge and Moliccie Hunnicutt Lemons. She graduated from Fourche Valley High School and earned a degree in Home Economics at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. She became the first director of the first Head Start Program in the United States, housed at the foot of Danville Mountain. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Arkansas Tech in Russellville and after teaching two short years at Danville Elementary School she returned to college earning a Master's Degree in Elementary Administration and served as principal in the Danville School District for 26 years when she retired due to her failing health. She was active in the Danville Parent Teacher Organization and the Arkansas Elementary Principal's Association. She was a member of the Danville United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and Bible School.

Survivors are her husband of 49 years, Burl Boyd; a son and daughter-in-law, Kelly and Gwendolyn Boyd of Havana, Arkansas; two daughters sons-in-law, Nancy and Randy Barrick of Danville, Arkansas, Julie and Jim Binam of Vilonia, Arkansas; four brothers, Wayne Lemons of Wilmington, Delaware, Jim Lemons of Chouteau, Oklahoma, Ron Lemons of Waldron, Arkansas, Rick Lemons of Mounds, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Taylor Barrick, Boyd Barrick and Tyler Binam.

Services were Friday, April 5, 2002, 10:00 a. m. at the First Baptist Church in Danville with Rev. David Hawkins and Rev. Earl Stapleton officiating. Interment will be in Earl Ladd Cemetery. Visitation was Thursday, 6:30 to 7:30 p. m. Arrangements by Cornwell Funeral Home, Danville. Boydston, Ora Oralene Carr

Ora Oralene Carr Boydston died Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at Chambers Memorial Hospital. She had resided in Dardanelle Rehab Nursing for the past three months, coming from her home in Van Buren, AR for the past 35 years. She was born in the Gum Springs Community, and attended a rural school there and school in Dardanelle. She retired from Wards Furniture Company after 35 years of service, she worked many years in the plant, and the last 10 years as a first aid nurse.

She was preceded in death by her husband T. J. Boydston; her son, Harold Gene Carter; her parents, Oliver Perry (Cap) Carr and Imogene Carr; two half-brothers, Andy Perry Carr and Ray Carr; one half-sister, Amanda Myers; her brothers, John Perry Carr, James (Pug) Carr; her sisters, Alyene Scott and Sarah Krehbiel.

Survivors include one brother, Charles (Chock) Carr and one sister, Wanda Louise Carr both reside in Danville.

Boyers, Thomas, III

Boyers, 79, Dead Of Heart Attack - Thomas Boyers III, judge of the 9th Circuit Court and member of a distinguished Sumner County family, died Saturday at his home in Gallatin from an apparent heart attack.

His funeral will be 2 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church where he was a deacon, elder and was presently serving as a trustee. Burial will be in Gallatin City Cemetery. The Rev. Charles Moffatt, pastor at First Presbyterian, will officiate. Pallbearers will be Thomas Garrott, Robert Alexander, Eugene Branham Jr., Tommy Perkins, Felix Fly, J.T. Warden, D.H. Jenkins and Alvin Ford. Donoho-Legge-Newby Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Boyers was appointed circuit judge in 1965 by then-Gov. Frank Clement, succeeding Judge Will Puryear who was elevated to the Court of Civil Appeals. The 79-year-old jurist carried a full case load and only Friday had spent the day in Springfield on the bench. He covered Sumner, Robertson and Montgomery counties. Gov. Lamar Alexander has the option of appointing an interim judge to fill Boyers' position until the 1982 elections. Should he choose not to appoint, the chief justice of the state Supreme Court could designate someone to fill in. Boyers had indicated he'd not seek another term and his son, Thomas Boyers IV, Gallatin city attorney, had been mentioned as a candidate to run for the position.

The Boyers family has been in Sumner County for at least six generations. His great-grandfather, R.M. Boyers, was a businessman who constructed and occupied a building where Parks Realty now is located. According to a marker erected a decade ago, the now-bricked log building was put up in 1814. Boyers also donated the land for First Presbyterian Church to be built on. His grandfather, the first Thomas Boyers, became a newspaper editor and publisher. He was editor of the 10th Legion, a Gallatin weekly in the late 1840's was editor, then editor and publisher of the Daily Centre State American in Nashville for nearly a decade. He returned to Gallatin in the late 1850s and organized the Gallatin Examiner. He was paymaster in the provisional Army of Tennessee, later an officer in the Confederate Army.

Throughout the years, the Boyers have been active in the Democratic Party in the county and state. Thomas Boyers Sr. was a member of the Democratic state executive committee.

Judge Boyers graduated from Vanderbilt Law School. While an undergraduate, he met his wife, Johnnie Mae Harkey, a coed from Arkansas. They were married 57 years. After graduation the couple moved to Texas and then to Arkansas where Boyers practiced law. He also was a member of the Legislature in Arkansas.

Survivors besides Mrs. Boyers and Thomas IV are another son, John Boyers, an officer with First and Peoples Bank in Gallatin; a daughter, Betty Ann Boyers; and three grandchildren. Mrs. Martha Boyte, age 77, formerly of Ola, passed away December 5, 1956 at the home of her daughter in Tulsa, Okla. She was a member of the Baptist Church in Ola and had spent most of her life in Arkansas and Oklahoma.

Anna W. Brabec, age 94, of Dardanelle, AR widow of Van F. Brabec, died Sunday October 17, 1999 at Dardanelle Nursing Home in Dardanelle, AR. She was born April 5, 1905 in Dardanelle, AR to the late Joseph and Mary Mashek Wesley, she was a homemaker, mother and a member of the St. Augustine Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.

Mrs. Annie Klober Brabec, age 90, of Dardanelle died Thursday, December 11, 1980. She was the daughter of the late Van and Annie Frederick Klober and was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church.

Brabec, Antone J.

Antone J. Brabec, 92, of Danville, formerly of Dardanelle, died Wednesday, August 25, 2004. Born April 12, 1912, in Dardanelle, he was the son of the late Anton and Annie Klcber Brabec, and a farmer. He served as a technical sergeant in the Army during World War II and was a German P. O. W.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Frank V. Brabec.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Evelyn B. Brabec; a son and daughter-in-law, Don A. and Nancy K. Brabec of Piano, TX; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara B. and Martin H. Kernan of Bartlett, TN; two sisters, Ann Wesley and Frances Wesley of Dardanelle; a granddaughter, Amanda Barton of Birmingham, AL. a great granddaughter; a nephew; and a niece.

Memorial service was held on August 28, 2004 at Oak Grove United Methodist Church with Larry Johnson officiating. Mrs. Ethel Dermon Brackett, age 98, resident of De Queen, died Saturday, July 9, 2005 in Brookewood Nursing Center. She was born May 12, 1907 in Yell County to Elmer and Rhodie Jane Dermon; was a homemaker; and a Baptist.

Bradbury, June Arlene

June Arlene Bradbury, age 68, of Horseshoe Bend, AR died Saturday, August 22, 1998 at the White River Medical Center in Batesville, AR. She was born June 18, 1930 in Independence, KS to the late Jess Parker and Martha Witherspoon Bradbury. She was retired as a bookkeeper for Bradbury Plumbing in Independence, KS.

Survivors include one sister, Jessie Sailer of California and several nephews, nieces and cousins.

Braddy, Nellie E.

Nellie E. Braddy, age 97 of Danville, formerly of Kingsland, Cleveland County, Arkansas died Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at Mitchells Nursing Home in Danville. Mrs. Braddy was born November 20, 1906 in Cleburne County, Arkansas to the late Andrew Jackson and Frazier Jane Carr Eason. She received her Bachelor of Home Economics degree from Arkansas Teachers College in Conway which is now UCA and completed work toward her masters from the U of A in Fayetteville. She and her late husband taught Home Economics and Vocational Agriculture at New Edinburg, Woodlawn and Kingsland High Schools. She was a Home Economist with the Agriculture Service in Polk County for several years. Her last work before retiring was teaching in elementary school at Kingsland where she lived. She was extremely active in her church, the First Baptist Church in Kingsland and in civic and historical work in Cleveland County. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kingsland, the Retired Teachers Association and the Daughters of the Confederacy. Her father was born in 1850 and fought in the civil war at age 14.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Braddy, her brothers, Francis Marion Eason, James Carroll Eason, Edmond Jackson Eason, her half-brothers, Robert Harvey Eason, William Lloyd Eason, R. M. Eason, Thomas Jefferson Eason, her half-sisters Lee Dona Eason Stark, Mattie Lee Eason, Ida Dee Eason and a granddaughter, Pamela Braddy Hiatt.

She is survived by one son, Leon Braddy of Danville, two granddaughters, Tamara Brickey and Ginger Haney both of Fayetteville. She has five great-grandchildren, Ross Hiatt of New York City, Catherine Hiatt of King wood, Texas, Libbey Haney, Catherine Ladd Breland and Lee Haney all of Fayetteville. She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Julia Hooten of Greers Ferry, a nephew, James Eason, and several other nieces and nephews.
