Sutterfield, Dorsey Farris

Dorsey Farris Sutterfield, age 75, of Russellville, AR died Wednesday, January 22, 2003 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center. He was born June 21, 1927 in Pine Bluff, AR to the late Walter E. and Bertha Farris Sutterfield. He was a retired traveling salesman for Corley Manufacturing Co. of Chattanooga, TN selling individual sawmill machinery for 35 years, a retired cattle rancher who pioneered the Charolais cattle business in Yell County, a member of the First Baptist Church, Plainview, serving as past Sunday School Director, men's teacher, Board of Directors and Deacon. He was a past director of Arkansas State Police youth ranches, a 32nd degree Mason, Imperial Shriner, NRA member, Army Veteran of Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Carl and Ferrel Sutterfield.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rebecca Faye Morrison Sutterfield of Russellville; sons, Mark E. Sutterfield and Michael Jay and Rena Sutterfield all of Plainview; five grandchildren, Michael, Cory, Bradley, Justin and Jaylinn Sutterfield; brother, Leslie & Alta Sutterfield of Mountain view; sisters, Martha & Ted Massey and Jessie May & Kenneth Marriott all of Springdale.

Funeral services were held at the Cornwell Chapel in Dardanelle with Rev. Bill Storts officiating. Interment was in Brearley Cemetery by Cornwell Funeral Home of Dardanelle, AR. Swaffar, Laura Grace Payne

Laura Grace Payne Swaffar, age 60, of Morrilton, AR died Friday, August 20, 1999. She was born May 12, 1939, in Yell County, a daughter of the late Lenard James Payne and Hattie Payne. She was the widow of Oscar Swaffar and was of the Assembly of God faith.

Survivors include one son, Jimmy Swaffar of Russellville, AR; four step-sons, Truman Swaffar of Russellville, AR, Robert and William Swaffar both of Morrilton, AR and Arlin Swaffar of Atkins, AR; two step-daughters, Mary Howard of Russellville, AR and Ruby Copeland of Oklahoma; two brothers, Robert Payne of Oklahoma, AR and Linzy Payne of Center Ridge, AR; five sisters, Kathy Cambell of Searcy, AR, Frankie Wilson and Elizabeth Pitts both of Ola, AR; Ruby Jo Taylor of Fresno, CA and Rosie Swaffar of Morrilton, AR and several grandchildren.

Swafford, George Samuel

George Samuel Swafford, age 95, of Gravelly, AR died Wednesday, December 27 at Chambers Memorial Hospital. He was born September 16, 1905 in Grant County, a son of the late Levi and Sarah Walker Swafford; he was retired owner of George Swafford Recapping Co. and a member of the Gravelly United Methodist Church. He was a 33rd degree Mason, past master of Crescent Masonic Lodge 403, past grand patron of the Order or the Easter Star and past patron of Gravelly Chapter 580 of the Order of the Easter Star.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Jean Wood Swafford; two sons and daughters-in-law, Edwin and Zanell Swafford of Kirkwood, MO and Thomas S. and Donna Swafford of Carlton, OR; three daughters and sons-in-law, Lois and Tom Craig of Little Rock, AR, Ann Swafford of Gravelly, AR and Mary and James Sale of Bryant, AR; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Billy Wayne Swaim, age 57, of Barling, AR died early Sunday morning, December 8, 1991 at the Chambers Memorial Hospital in Danville. He was a native of Aly, AR; son of the late Reba Yates Swaim. He was a heavy equipment operator and a veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Kathy Burch Swaim of Barling, AR; one daughter, Terra Swaim of Barling; a step-daughter, Susan Camp of Aly, AR; his father, Gurn Swaim of Aly, AR; three brothers, G. Clara Opal Swaim, age 84, of Crossett, AR, died Wednesday, January 22, 1997 at Hamburg Leisure Lodge. She was born on June 8, 1912. She was a homemaker and a member of Concord Baptist Church in Aly, AR.

She was preceded in death by a son, Boyce Swaim and her husband, Gilbert Swaim.

Swaim, Ernie Thomas "Ned"

Mr. Ernie Thomas "Ned" Swaim, age 84, of Bluffton, AR died Sunday, January 4, 1998 at St. Mary's Hospital in Russellville, AR. He was born December 20, 1912 in Bluffton, AR to the late Benjamin O. and Phoebe Ann Austin Swaim. He was a retired U. S. Forest Service Employee and farmer and a member of the Nola Church of Christ.

Surviving are his wife, Margie Frances Swaim; two daughters and sons-in-law, Priscilla and Frankie Kitchens of Springdale, AR and Wanda and Danny McIntyre of Bluffton, AR; one sister, Pauline Cook of Tulsa, OK; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Swaim, G. B.

G. B. Swaim, Jr. age 71, a resident of Hector, AR died Saturday, December 27, 1997 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center at Russellville. He was born August 1, 1926 at Ft. Smith to Gurn and Reba Yates Swaim. He attended Arkansas Tech and received his Bachelor of Science and Master's from the University of Arkansas. He was a United States Navy Veteran of WWII. Following the war, he taught Veteran's classes in Hector and Agriculture at Coal Hill in the early 50's. He taught agriculture at Alma for 5 years and spent the next 30 years teaching in the Hector School System; First as a classroom teacher and then as principal at Hector High School and later as a school counselor. He concluded his career by returning to the classroom as a shop teacher. He was a member of the Hector Masonic Lodge where he was a 7 time past member of the Lodge and was currently serving as Senior Warden. He had served as District Deputy Grand Master for the State of Arkansas. He was a member of the Aly Concord Baptist Church and he attended the Hector Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he taught Sunday School for many years.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Swaim.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbye Swaim of Hector; one daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Larry Freeman of Hector, AR; four grandchildren, Guillen Freeman and Ben Freeman both of Hector, Sherry McCurrie of Hot Springs and Shelly Frew of Morris, IL; two brothers, Glynn Swaim of Aly and Ron Swaim of Overland Park, KS; two sisters, Louise Lee and Virginia Gaither both of Hot Springs.

Funeral service was December 30th at the Hector Cumberland Presbyterian Church officiated by Rev. Toy Brindley and assisted by Mr. Duawn Mearns. Burial was in the Boiling Springs Cemetery at Hector. Gilbert Swaim, 87, of Crossett, AR, died Monday, January 13, 1997 at Ashley Memorial Hospital. He was a construction worker, a member of Concord Baptist Church in Aly and a Mason for over 50 years.

Swaim, Glynn Ray

Glynn Ray Swaim, age 69, of Aly, AR died Saturday, November 20, 1999 at his home. He was born in Brownsville, TX on June 3, 1930, he was the son of the late Gurn and Reba Yates Swaim and was a veteran of the Korean War, during which he served in the U. S. Army. He was a retired farmer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Greg Swaim and two brothers, Bill and G. D. Swaim.

Survivors include his wife, Cora of the home; a son Kenneth Swaim of Portland, OR; two daughters, Glenda Botwinick of Plainview, AR and Sheila Craft of Fort Smith, AR; a brother, Ronald Swaim of Kansas City, KS; two sisters, Louise Lee and Virginia Gaither both of Hot Springs; a grandson and four granddaughters.

Swaim, Loyal Wayne "L.W."

Loyal Wayne "L. W." Swaim, age 84, of Booneville, Ark. passed away April 10, 2009, in Waldron, Ark. He was born May 26, 1925, in Bluffton, Ark. He was a retired county extension agent for many years, serving in many different counties in Arkansas. He served on the Farm Bureau board for 20 years, serving as president for two years. He was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Booneville and a former member of the Rotary Club in Booneville.

He is preceded in death by a son, Randy Swaim, and his parents, Othel and Aughtie Hughes.

Funeral service will be at 2 p. m. Monday, at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Booneville, Ark. with burial in Russell Cemetery in Belleville, Ark. under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.

He is survived by his wife Vera Swaim of the home; two brothers, Aldon Hughes and James Hughes, both of Waldron, Ark.; five nieces and one nephew. He was born on January 13, 1944 at Cleveland, OH to Robert and Lucille (Cyganski) Sweeney. He married Marilyn Joyce Robinson Sweeney on July 5, 1976 at Ola, AR. He retired as a machinist and was a member of the Ola Assembly of God Church.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille Sweeney.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn J. Sweeney of Ola; his father, Robert T. Sweeney of Ola, AR; many aunts, uncles, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.

Funeral service was April 29, 1999 at the Ola Assembly of God Church officiated by Rev. Norman Chenowith and assisted by Rev. Royal C. Reed. Swicegood, William F. Bill"

William F. "Bill" Swicegood, 56, of Ola, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, August 5, 2005 at St. Vincent's Infirmary in Little Rock. The son of George and Jewell (Girardot) Swicegood, he was born April 19, 1949 in Burbank, California. He married Brenda Jean Boggs on July 8, 1978 at Appleton. He was a member of the Ola First Free Will Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Robin Alfaro a brother-in-law, John Lombardi and a nephew, Tommy Lombardi.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Swicegood of Ola one son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Kerrye Swicegood of Russellville one son-in-law, Mark Alfaro of Russellville three grandchildren his parents two sisters, Billie Lombardi, Shirley McGlone and husband Randy all of Russellville one brother, Douglas Swicegood of Russellville and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral service was held on Tuesday, August 9, 2005 at Ola Free Will Baptist Church with Reverend Bobby Wells and Reverend Denver Robinson officiating. Swilley, Johney Marion

Mr. Johney Marion Swilley, age 76 of Dardanelle, AR died Tuesday, February 24, 1998 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville. He was born April 27, 1921 in Dardanelle, AR to the late Frank and Mattie Mathney Swilley. He was a member of the Dardanelle Assembly of God Church, Boyce Woods VFW Post 3141 in Dardanelle and was a retired coalminer and millworker for Tom Jones Lumber Company and Renee Sims Builder Supply.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Crow Swilley of Dardanelle; two sons, John Swilley of Pinesville, LA and Jerry Swilley of Pottsville, AR; two daughters, Judy Collins and Sherry Wood both of Dardanelle, AR; two brothers, David Swilley of Olympia, WA and Charles Konoye of Austin, TX; four sisters, Rachel Tilmon and Billie Hicks both of Dardanelle, AR, Frances Fink of Austin, TX and Marie Gilda of Ohio; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Service was held February 27 at the Cornwell Chapel in Dardanelle with Rev. David Jay officiating. Interment was in the Brearley Cemetery at Dardanelle by Cornwell Funeral Home of Dardanelle. Swint, Lera Mae

Lera Mae Swint, age 97, of Springdale, died December 24, 2007 in Springdale. She was born April 9, 1910 in Havana, AR, the daughter of Frank and Esta Barnes Rogers. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Springdale and was a retired owner and manager of apartment buildings. She enjoyed reading and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Swint and an infant daughter, Mildred Marie.

She is survived by two daughters Betty Hale of Springdale and Mary Erickson of St. Louis Park, Minnesota; three sisters Irene Wooten of Springdale, Frankie Martin of Ventura, California and Rosemary McCarty of Springdale; five grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday, December 27, 2007, at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Springdale, with Pastor Jack McCarty and David Hale officiating. Sykes, James Donald

Dr. James Donald Sykes, age 59 of Dardanelle, died January 13, 2003 at Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. He practiced medicine as a pediatrician and family physician for 32 years. Most recently he practiced as a family physician in Dardanelle, was the Medical Director for Dardanelle Nursing Center, and on the staff Dardanelle Hospital. He was board certified American Board of Pediatrics, Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, a member of the Arkansas Family Practice Association. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War in which he served as a Lt. Colonel in the United States Air Force. He was a deacon at Dardanelle First Baptist Church. Dr. Sykes received a Bachelor s degree from Ouachita Baptist University, Arkadelphia, and was a 190 graduate of the University of Arkansas College of Medicine. He served his internship and residency at Wilford Hall USAF Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. He served as Deputy Commander, Little Rock AFB Hospital. He also practiced in El Dorado, Paragould, and Waldron.

He was preceded in death by parents, Harry and Dorothy Sykes and sisters, Pat Revere and Angie Johnson.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Jeanne Carol Fortner Sykes; three sons and daughters-in-law Dr. Jeffery Dean and Sarah Sykes of Arkadelphia, John David and Sheri Sykes; grandson, Jared James Sykes and an eagerly expected second grandchild, all or Russellville, Jason Donald and Tanna Sykes, also of Russellville; brothers; Dr. Robert Sykes of Nashville, AR, and Worthy Sykes of Little Rock; sisters, Jean Hope of Hot Springs and Dr. Jo Chesser of Little Rock and numerous nieces and nephews.

Doyle Lee Tackett, age 78, or Atkins, AR died Saturday, September 7, 2002. He was a retired farmer, a member of the Atkins First Baptist Church and a Navy Veteran of World War II.

Tackett, E.O. - Former Longtime Havana Pastor, Dies

Rev. Edward Tackett, 83, of Farmington, AR., a longtime teacher and pastor in Havana, died on December 25, 2005. Rev. Tackett was active in the Havana community in community, city, school and church affairs for 36 years. He was in the United States Coast Guard during World War II serving in the South Pacific and was discharged as a Boatswain's Mate, First Class. He pastored the Havana Assembly of God Church for thirty-six years and taught in the Havana Public School. He was an officer in Ruritan and a leader of Royal Rangers.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, an infant brother and a sister, Beulah Lewis.

Tackett, Edward Otho

Rev. Edward Otho Tackett, 83, of Farmington, Arkansas went to be with the Lord, December 25, 2005. He was born June 10, 1922 in Hector, AR to Rev. Raymond and Laudra Tackett. He was in the United States Coast Guard during World War II serving in the South Pacific and was discharged as a Boatswain's Mate, First Class. He was a licensed ordained Assembly of God minister for fifty-six years, pastoring the Havana Assembly of God Church for thirty-six years. He taught in the Havana Public School. He was an active leader in community service as an officer in Ruritan and a leader of Royal Rangers. He attended Southwestern Bible College in Waxahachie, Texas and was graduated from John Brown University in Siloam Spring, Arkansas with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Bible and Religious Education. His greatest desire was to please the Lord. He often made the statement. "God is too wise to make a mistake and He loves us too much to do us wrong."

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, an infant brother and a sister, Beulah Lewis.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Ruth Tackett of the home; two sons, Edward Tackett, Jr. and wife Lanelle of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, John Tackett and wife Deborah of Arkadelphia, AR; three daughters, Rebekah Hill and husband Reverend Robert Hill of Spiro, Oklahoma, Judy Bancerowski and" husband Michael of Farmington, AR and Karen Miller and husband Charles of Crookston, Minnesota; one sister, Emma Jo Price of Russellville, AR; ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday, December 29, 2005 at the Havana Church of Christ, with Burial at the Havana Cemetery under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home of Spiro. Pallbearers were Whick Stapleton, Bruce Bland, Ron Newton, Jeff Welch, Bobby Burrows and Johnny Ralph Burrows. Etta Mae Tackett, 81, of Russellville, died Sunday, May 15, 2005 at UAMS in Little Rock. The daughter of William and Polly Miller West, she was born March 14, 1924 in Steve, Arkansas. She was a Nurse s Aide with Stella Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and retired in 1987. She was a member of the member and past Worth Matron of the London Chapter #549 of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Kelley Heights Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband Henry E. Tackett and her parents and two sisters, Estelle Blankenship and Etoy Sims and a brother John West.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Willard and Crystal Tackett, Lovelock, NV; three grandsons; great grandsons; three sisters, Hazel King, Centerville, Irene Murray, Russellville, Ruby Dickenson, Springdale; two great-great grandchildren; eleven nephews and five nieces. Funeral will be at 2 pm Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at Humphrey Chapel. Rev. Jack West will officiate. The Eastern Star will provide memorial rites. Burial will be at Pisgah Cemetery at Pottsville by Humphrey Funeral Service.
