Sims, W. O. "Dub"

W. O. "Dub" Sims, age 63, of London, died Thursday, January 8, 2004, at the Dardanelle Hospital. A son of Leatha Norma Vinson Sims of London and the late Truman Orlander Sims, he was born November 30, 1940, at London. He was the former owner and operator of Dub's Restaurant in London. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by a brother, Hoyt Elton Sims.

He is survived by his mother; his former wife, Betty Sweeden of Atkins; a son, William O. Sims, Jr. of Russellville; a step-son, Timothy Warren of Branson, MO; a step-daughter, Terrie Ann Duvall of Atkins; three brothers, Troy "Rip" Sims of Russellville, Rexall Carl Sims of London and Montie L. Sims of Dardanelle.

Sims, Walter Scott

Walter Scott Sims passed way at his home in Oak Lawn, IL on March 6, 1997. He had formerly lived at Steve, AR. He was born April 9, 1925 in Atlantic, IA to Walter and Stella Sims. He served in the U. S. Navy for many years.

He is survived by a son, Walter Thomas of Oak Lawn; a daughter, Sharon Scherer of Arburn, NE; four sisters, Georgia Johnson, Casper, CA, Ruth Sawyer, Coos Bay, OLR, Sue Wright, Phoenix, AZ and Faye Good, Circle, MT; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Sims, William C. Bill

William C. Bill Sims, age 71 of London, died Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Saint Mary s Hospital in Russellville. Born August 7, 1937 in London, he was the son of the late William A. and Nettie Vinson Sims. He was an independent truck driver for Willis Shaw Express and also worked for the Arkansas Highway Department and the Goodyear Tire Store.

He is preceded in death by his parents and wife, Donna Jean Sanders Sims.

Survivors include one son, James Sims and fianc Teresa Williams of London; two sister and one brother-in-law, Juanita Wilson of Knoxville and Ruth and Terry White of London; three grandchildren, Brian Sims and wife, Chrystal of Russellville, Aubrey Sims of Lamar, and Lacey Kennedy of Russellville; and seven great-grandchildren. Sipes, Ada Louella

Ada Louella Sipes, age 76 of Danville, AR died Thursday, September 6, 2001 at Chambers Memorial Hospital in Danville, AR. She was born November 24, 1924 in Covington, TN to the late Ernest Benjamin and Sadie Louella Cupp Jones. She was a retired nurse with Yell County Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Martin Sipes; a son Jimmy Franklin Green; grandsons, Jamie Lewis Green and Shawn Blue; a brother, Ernest Jones, Jr. and three sisters, Anna Grave McCreary, Ernestine McCollum and Molly Jones.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Junior and Wanda Green and Jerry and Kay Green all of Danville, AR; three daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Crawford of Dardanelle, AR, Becky and Albert Moats of Danville, AR and Debbie and Charles Stuart of North Platte, NE; two brothers and sister-in-law, Paul Jones of Waveland, AR and Fred and Carol Jones of Lavaca, AR; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Lucille James, Ruthie & Jake James all of Danville, Rosa White of Mena, AR, Birdie and Clyde Green and Sadie Meyers all of Holly Springs, MS; 20 grandchildren and 47 great grandchildren and the father of her children, Clarence L. Green of Tennessee.

Service was September 9, 2001 at the First Baptist Church in Danville. Interment was in Earl Ladd Cemetery by Cornwell Funeral Home of Danville. Pallbearers were grandsons. Sisco, Elieen Mae

Mrs. Elieen Mae Sisco, age 82, of Dardanelle, AR, widow of Carl Sisco, died Wednesday, September 15, 1999 at the Dardanelle Nursing Center. She was born September 15, 1917 in Ft. Smith, AR to the late Ellis and Etta Kerns Tankersley. She was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church in Dardanelle and a homemaker and mother.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Everett, Bud and George Tankersley and two sisters, Margaret Turner and Mary Moreton.

She is survived by two sons, Richard J. Sisco or Asher, OK and Raymond E. Sisco of Shady Point, OK; three daughters, Linda Goocher and Glenda Geurian both of Dardanelle, AR and Patti Cain of Conway, AR; one sister, Lena Holland of Dardanelle, AR; 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Services were September 18, 1999 at Cornwell Chapel in Dardanelle with Rev. Pat Base and Rev. Paul Geurian officiating. Interment was in Brearley Cemetery by Cornwell Funeral Home of Dardanelle, AR. Sisk, Mary B.

Mary B. Sisk, age 89, of Plainview, AR, died Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at Chambers Memorial Hospital in Danville. The daughter of Lon and Isabelle Phillips McCasland, she was born December 8, 1916 in Marshall, Arkansas. She married T. J. Sisk, on April 28, 1934 at Big Flat. She enjoyed gardening and sewing and cooking for her family. She was a Homemaker and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Plainview.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Naomi Beavers and Dempsey Preddy.

She is survived by her husband of 72 years, T. J. Sisk, Plainview; a daughter and son-in-law, Theogene and Alvin Wideman, Plainview; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Mary Gayla and Charlie Lawrence, Plainview; three great grandsons, Charles Nicholas Lawrence and wife Tarah, Corey Nathaniel Lawrence, Phillip Mikael Lawrence, Plainview; two sisters, Lucille Gregg and Elizabeth Ross both of Marshall and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Sisk, Theodore J. "Tj"

Theodore J. "TJ" Sisk, age 102, of Plainview, died Monday, March 2, 2009 at Chambers Memorial Hospital in Danville. The son of Thomas Gipson and Rosa Wilson Sisk, he was born March 22, 1906 in Big Flat, AR. He was a 1928 graduate of Marshall High School. He was a retired stave mill operator. A member of the Masonic Lodge # 641 for over fifty years, and a former Alderman of Plainview. He was founding member of Plainview Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of First Baptist Church Plainview.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 72 years Mary B Sisk; two brothers, Johnny and Clyde Sisk; four sisters, Delphia Mainord, Susie McVey, Bertha Hooker and Tilda Morrow.

Survivors include; one daughter, Theogene B. & Alvin Wideman of Plainview; one granddaughter, Mary Gayla & Charlie Lawrence of Plainview; three great grandsons, Nicholas Lawrence and wife Tarah, Corey N. Lawrence and Phillip Mikael Lawrence; one great-great granddaughter, Carsyn Lawrence; one sister-in-law Elizabeth Ross of Marshall; host of nieces nephews and other extended family and friends.

Sivley, James Buford "Tony"

"Tony" James Buford Sivley, Sr. age 79 of Danville, died Monday evening at St. Vincents Infirmary in Little Rock. (Sept 1994). He was born hi Logan County, January 1, 1915, son of the late Tecumseh Harrison and Amelia Robert Sivley. He was a retired self employed businessman, retired 25 year member of the Danville Fire Department, a member of the Belleville Domino Players Association, and a Republican.

Survivors include wife, Mrs. Adele Walden Sivley, son, "Jimmy" James Buford Sivley, Jr. of Scottsdale, Arizona, daughter, Mrs. Barbara Redfern of Little Rock, one brother, Joe Sivley of Danville, four sisters, Sibyl Harrison, Tucson, Arizona, Fonda Smith, Barling, Arkansas, Amelia Furey, Hendersonville, North Carolina and Patricia Hoff, Little Rock, Arkansas. Sivley, Joseph Matthew "Joe"

Joseph Matthew "Joe" Sivley, Sr. age 63 of Danville, AR died Friday, October 23, 1998 at his home in Danville, AR. He was born March 30, 1935 in Danville, AR to the late Tecumseh Harrison and Amelia Louise Rotert Sivley. He was retired after forty three years as vice-president of the Yell County Telephone in Danville. He was a member of the Danville Lions Club.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Tony Sivley and two sisters, Sibyl Harrison and Eutana Riggan.

Survivors are a son, Joseph "Joe" Matthew Sivley, Jr. of Little Rock, AR; three sisters, Fonda Smith of Barling, AR, Amy Furey of Hendersonville, NC and Patricia Hoff of Little Rock, AR; three nephews, Jim Sivley of Scottsdale, AZ, Jerry Riggan and Tom Riggan both of Anchorage, AK; two nieces, Barbara Redfern of Little Rock, AR and Billie Riter of Tucson, AZ.

Kenneth Dean Skaggs, Jr., 36, of Dardanelle, died Sunday, June 12, 2005, in Dardanelle. He was born November 18, 1968, in Clarksville.

He is preceded in death by a sister, Crystal Palmer; and his grandfathers, Noah McClure, Tony Crowson, Gould Skaggs and Levi Pitts.

Slater, Lucy Garner

Lucy Garner Slater, age 96, of Jacksonville, TX died September 24, 2008 in a Tyler hospital. She was born September 11, 1912 in Gravelly, Arkansas to the late Otho and Ola Montgomery Garner. Formerly of Plainview, Arkansas and Texarkana, she moved to Jacksonville, Texas in 1951 where she was an active member of The Order of Eastern Star and First United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bradley Slater and daughter, Susie Chapa.

Survivors include a niece, Melba Westbrook, Dallas, great nephews, Kim and Brad Westbrook, son-in-law John Chapa, San Angelo, grandchildren, Monica, Slater & Marcus, 7 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grand nephews and 1 great-great grand niece.

Slater, Syble Irene Kitchens Copeland

Syble Irene Kitchens Copeland Slater -- Syble Irene (Copeland) Slater was born December 19, 1907, in Yell County. She passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2006, in a Waldron hospital. She was a homemaker and a member of the Freewill Baptist Church. She was married to Willie M. Copeland for 49 years until his death in 1978, and they had four sons and two daughters. Later she married Bud Slater of Waldron until he passed away in 1987.

Funeral service will be 2 p. m. Friday, December 22, 2006, at the Martin Funeral Home Chapel with interment at the Parks Cemetery at Nola under the direction of the Martin Funeral Home.

She is survived by two daughters, Dorthy Putman of Waldron and Peggy Buckles of Waldron; two sons, Fred Copeland and his wife, Ann of Waldron, Ted Copeland of Tulsa; three stepdaughters, Anna Jean Wagner of Waldron, Evelyn Crump of Waldron, and Martha Martin of Waldron; one sister, Verta Seay of Alto, Ga.; one brother, Ariel Lee Kitchens of Tampa, Fla.; five grandchildren, Larry Putman, Cheri Scott, Chester Brothers, Dwayne Brothers, Lanny Brothers; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Dalbert Copeland and his wife, Suzue; infant son, Buddy; granddaughter, Marsha Lynn Putman; her parents, C. C. and Minnie Kitchens; one brother, Jessie Kitchens; two sisters, Velma Jones and Etoyl Kitchens.

Slatten, Etta Taylor

Etta Taylor Slatten, age 95, of Dardanelle, AR died Sunday, March 19, 2000 at the Dardanelle Nursing Center. She was born March 27, 1904 in Harkeys Valley, Arkansas to the late Ada Greene and Henry J. Taylor. She was a homemaker, minister of the Assemblies of God churches, school teacher and a member of the Dardanelle First Assembly of God.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry L. Slatten; two brothers, Floyd and Boyd Taylor; two sisters, Arlevia Smith and Sylvia Bates.

Survivors are; one brother, J. T. Taylor of Dardanelle, AR; one sister, Vorene Waid of Dardanelle, AR and several nephews and nieces.

Funeral service was March 21 at the Dardanelle First Assembly of God Church with Rev. James Lowe, Rev. Eldon King and Rev. Robert Adams officiating. Jonathan Gabrial Slaughter, age 5 of Centerville, died Monday, January 26, 2004 at the Dardanelle Hospital. He was born August 6, 1998 in Clarksville and was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church in Russellville.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Dude Hilliard and grandmother, Freeda Emberson.

Edward Simon Slay, age 89, of Havana died at the Yell County Hospital on April 6. He was a native of Alabama and had lived in Yell County about 65 years. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Church of God.

Ottie Slay, age 83, of Roland, Oklahoma died Tuesday, June 18, 2002 in Roland, Oklahoma. She was a Baptist and a homemaker.

Grace Florence Mary Slinn, age 77, died August 28, 2001. She was born in England and has been in this country for the last 30 years. She was retired from the Aetna Insurance Co.

Carl Willie Sliter, age 77, of Centerville, AR died Tuesday, September 8, 1998 at Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock. He was born December 27, 1920, he was the son of the late George W. and Buela Pierce Sliter and a member and deacon of Centerville Assembly of God Church. He retired after 25 years with Mastic Corp. in South Bend, Ind.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur and Archie Sliter.

He is survived by his wife, Alma Irene Middleton Sliter; three sons, James Sliter of Lapax, Ind. Charles Sliter of Centerville and Dan Sliter of Dardanelle, AR; a daughter, Mary Lou Kaser of Lapax, Ind. two brothers, Selmer Sliter of London, KY and Paul Sliter of Melford, IN; a sister, Ethel Sliter of Dardanelle, AR; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; six step-grand children and two step-great-grandchildren.

Sloan, Charles L.

Former Yell County Judge Charles L. Sloan, age 67, of Ola, AR, passed away at 2:30 am. April 3, 2001 at his home after a long and well fought battle with cancer. He was born May 15, 1933 in Mt. George, AR a son of the late Roscoe and Oma Lewis Sloan. He was a graduate of Ola High School and the Arkansas Environmental Academy. He was a member of the Ola Assembly of God Church. He served as Yell County Judge and Sanitation Supervisor for 14 years. He was on the board of West Central Arkansas Planning and Development for 17 years, served for many years as a board member of Chambers Memorial Hospital, Yell County Special Center, Yell County School Board, Child Development Incorporated, Ola Chamber of Commerce, Ola Township Chairman, Ola Sandlin Cemetery. He was an Army Veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict. He celebrated 28 wonderful years as a board member of Chambers Bank last year. He was a newly elected member of the Yell County Quorum Court and has enjoyed working with and for the people of Yell County.

He was preceded in death by a brother, James Joe Sloan and Pauline Becht.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Nancy Kate Moore Sloan; one daughter, Kathy Jo Sloan-Dunn of Ola, AR; two grandson, Devin Russell Dunn and Charles Ryan Maverick Dunn both of Ola, AR; one sister and brother-in-law, Patsy Ruth and Bill Okler of New Boston, MI; several nieces and nephews and two very special friends, Donald Ray and Beth Buford of Ola, Pinochle partners for over 25 years.

Funeral service was April 5, 2001 at the Ola Assembly of God with Rev. Norman Chenowith, Rev. Jerry Schlinker and special speaker Judge Jimmy Witt. Burial was in Sandlin Cemetery in Ola, AR. Sloan, J. Bernice

J. Bernice Sloan, age 92, of Cedaredge, CO passed away Monday, September 18, 1995 at Delta County Memorial Hospital in Delta, CO. She was born in Yell County, Arkansas on November 15, 1902 to the late Johnathan and Veenie Childers Moulder. She was raised by her foster parents, Fred and Mrytle Dawson. She worked in a citrus, packing house in Orange County, CA. She married Willard Bill Sloan on April 17, 1922 in Yell County. He preceded her in death April 15, 1987. She has been a resident of Cedaredge, CO since July 1984. She was a member of Cedaredge United Methodist Church. She was a hard worker and loved to cook. .

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Priscilla and Jack Jones of Cedaredge, CO and one sister, Ola Sloan of Plainview, AR. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Virgil Moulder.

Willa Mae Smaby, age 71, of Hemet, CA died October 26, 2001 at St. Bernardino Medical Center in San Bernardino, CA. She was born October 28, 1929 in Belleville, AR to Adril Misenheimer and the late Hugh Misenheimer. She graduated from Belleville in 1948 and attended the 50 year class reunion in 1997. She was a supervisor for Children's Services at the county of Riverside for 20 years. She was a member of Calvary Chapel in San Jacinto and Sons of Norway for 20 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, in August, 2001.

She is survived by a son, Matthew Smaby of Hemet, CA; five daughters, Debbie Halman, Diana Siberman, Denise Davis, Dee Zetsch and Darcelle Smaby all of Hemet, CA; five grandchildren; three brothers, Jim Misenheimer of Murrieta, CA, John Misenheimer of La Habra, CA and Gary Misenheimer of Corona, CA; one sister, Jeanette Best of Nevada; her mother, Adriel Misenheimer of Hemet, CA.
