Hunt, Mike And Terri

Two Plainview Graduates Killed In Airplane Crash - Mike and Terri Hunt, both Plainview-Rover graduates and well-known DeQueen business owners, were killed with two other people in an airplane crash near Umpire, AR, about 20 miles east of the Albert Pike Recreation area flooding site. The pilot and three passengers were identified as Michael Hunt, 45, and Terri Hunt, 46, and Carl Davis, 52, and Carolyn Davis, 51, all of De Queen. Mike Hunt was believed to be the pilot of the civilian plane. FAA spokeswoman Elizabeth Isham Cory said the single-engine Piper Cherokee airplane took off Sunday morning from De-Queen, about 35 miles southwest of Umpire, and was headed to Gaston's White River Resort in Lakeview. She said all four were killed when the plane crashed near Umpire in Howard County, about 90 miles north of Texarkana. Howard County Sheriff Butch Morris said the plane went down about 9:30 a. m. in a remote, wooded portion of the Howard County Wildlife Management Area, seven or eight miles southwest of Umpire. Witness Heard Crash -He said a woman had called the sheriff's office saying she heard a plane flying low over her house and then a "thud." Deputies blocked off a road leading from U. S. 278 to the crash site, several miles west of Umpire. Morris said the cause of the crash was still unknown. Both couples were local business owners and all had been active in the community for a number of years. "It's a great tragedy. They were all really good people. They did a lot to build the town up. Plainview Family -Michael Hunt is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Hunt of Plainview and Terri Henson Hunt is the daughter of Jesse and the late Marv Henson. Terri Henson Hunt's brother Monte and sister Renae still live in or near Plainview. Sheriff Morris said the cause of the crash was still unknown. At the time the plane went down, he said, there was low cloud cover in the area. Authorities said the plane was not among those searching for victims of the flood at Albert Pike Recreation Area. FAA Spokesman Cory said the National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation into the cause of the crash. Focus On Conditions Keith Holloway, a spokesman for the National Transportation Safety Board, said "It will be some time before the cause of the crash is known." NTSB personnel arrived at the crash site on Monday, joining FAA investigators. Gray, overcast skies were reported in the area at the time the plane went down, according to a Sheriff's Department Spokesman. That could be important to the crash investigation, as Michael Hunt was licensed to fly only under VFR (Visual Flight Rules) conditions, according to Gehri Packnett, Sevier County Airport Board member. Airport conditions at the time Hunt took off were acceptable for VFR-rated pilots, but the small plane quickly entered the cloudy conditions near the crash site. According to Packnett, Michael Hunt had however previously flown to Dallas. San Antonio, Shreveport, and Florida, often accompanied by his wife.

Funeral arrangements will be handled by Wilkerson Funeral Home in DeQueen, but as of Tuesday afternoon arrangements are incomplete. (WWW.YellCountyObits.org, Yell County Record, Danville, Arkansas; Obituary was published on Wednesday, June 16, 2010)
