Hurlburt, Jo Ann

Jo Ann Hurlburt, age 48, of Belleville, AR died Sunday, September 5, 2004 at her home. She was born in Sacramento, CA on December 30, 1955. She was a retired Chambers Memorial Hospital nurse's aide.

She was preceded in death by her father, Claudie Crone.

Survivors include her husband, Howard Hurlburt; her mother, Ruth Caviness Crone of Plainview, AR; three children, Bunny Baker of Russellville, Bruce Burchard of Plainview, AR and Danny Jo Furr of Belleville, AR; four brothers, Larry, Buster and Tony Crone all of Plainview, AR and William Crone of Ola, AR; four sisters, Ruthie Cole and Janet Haney of Ola, AR, Joyce Williams of Birta, AR and Nancy Wilcutt of Centerville, AR; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral service will be Thursday, September 9, 2004 at 11:00 a. m. at New Hope Cemetery at Dardanelle, AR. Arrangements by Cornwell Funeral Home of Danville, AR. Hurlburt, Lyle Barton

Mr. Lyle Barton Hurlburt, age 68, of Ola, AR died Saturday, February 15, 1997 at his home in Ola. He was born March 14, 1928 in Akron, CO to the late Harold H. and Maybelle Barton Hurlburt. He was a retired self-employed truck driver, a private pilot, member of the Lions Club of Ola, River Valley Avaiation, Navion Society and the Civil Air Patrol.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Harriet Hurlburt.

Survivors include his wife, Charlene Ginn Hurlburt; two sons, H. Harl Hurlburt of Colorado Springs, CO, Dwayne D. Hurlburt of Riverside, MO; daughter, Virginia Johnson-Millsap of Kansas City, MO; sister, Lucille Walter of Las Vegas, NV; two brothers, Chester Hurlburt and Clarence Hurlburt both of Boulder, CO; two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Hurley, Bruce Wayne

Bruce Wayne Hurley, 49, of Atkins, died Monday, May 2, 2016. He was born July 2, 1966, in Paris. He was an ordained minister and attended Russellville Christian Center. He was a car dealer, loved music and taught guitar.

He was preceded in death by his biological father, Orval Dean Hurley; two brothers, Kevin Hurley and Randy Hurley.

Survivors include his mother and father, Sharyn and Coleman "Curley" Warnick of Russellville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Michele and Robert Scalco of Russellville and Rhonda and Jim Wood of Roland, Oklahoma; two brothers, Danny Warnick and Kieth Warnick, both of Dover; three nephews, Michael, Chris and Ryan Scalco; his special friend, Emily Johnson of Atkins; and other nephews and nieces.

Hurst, Ann

Ann Hurst, age 78, of Russellville died Wednesday, March 10, 1999 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center, She was born March 26, 1920, at Cardon Bottoms, to the late John Zedec and Sarah Ellen McDaniel Cooper. Mrs. Hurst was a retired Lab Assistant from the Janet Davis Kitchens.

She was preceded in deaths by three sisters, Floy Grimes, Lois Davidson and Inis Ramey.

Survivors include her husband, James Dude Hurst, one son and daughter-in-law, Sammy and Laquita Ramey of Dardanelle, two sisters, Velma Ragsdale of Sallisaw, OK, Winnie Gillespie of Pine Bluff, two grandsons and granddaughters, Timothy Doyle, Stephanie Ramey and Jason Patrick and Fay Ramey of Baton Rouge, LA; great granddaughter, Rebekah Lynn Ramey of Dardanelle.

Services were Friday at Cornwell Chapel, Dardanelle with Rev. Milton Cowling officiating. Interment was in Brearley Cemetery by Cornwell Funeral Service of Dardanelle. Hurst, Patsy Ann

Patsy Ann Hurst, 51 of Russellville, lost her battle with cancer but gained victory into her Father's Kingdom on Wednesday September 7, 2005. She was born December 3, 1953 at Covington, Kentucky to Marvin and Marie West. She was employed by Legacy Lodge Nursing home.

She is preceded in death by her father, Marvin West, father-in-law, Archie Hurst, and granddaughter, Jacey Fox.

Survivors include her husband of 28 years, Arley Hurst three sons, Jerry Fox, Eric Fox, and Ray Hurst daughter, Crystal Hurst five grandchildren mother-in-law, Christine Hurst Essinger, all of Russellville two sisters, Peggy McCarthy of Newport, KY, Linda Shoemaker of Brookeville, IN brother, Dale West of Guilford, IN numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and a dedicated friend, Janet Martin.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 10 at Dardanelle Church of Christ with Mr. Ralph Weinhold officiating. Interment was at Brearley Cemetery in Dardanelle. Walter Hurst, aged 84, a resident of the Mt. George community died at his home Thursday, February 20. He was a native of Pope County, a retired farmer and a member of the Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ollie Tubbs Hurst; six sons, Ted Hurst and Bobby Lee Hurst, both of Little Rock, Clem Hurst of Danville, Boyce Hurst of LeGrand, Calif., Carlton Wayne Hurst of Argon, Kans. and Walter Lee Hurst of Wellington, Kans.; seven daughters, Mrs. Berthda Mae Rickets of Clarksville, Mrs. Bessie Lee Buie, Mrs. Annie Shinn, all of Danville, Mrs. Reba Higgins of Holcomb, Mo., Mrs. Lois Martin of Little Rock and Mrs. Geneva Moore of Mulberry; 56 grandchildren and 54 great grandchildren.

Roy R. Hutchens, age 94, of Russellville, AR died Sunday at Stella Manor Nursing Center. He was a son of the late William C. and Rachel Heckart Hutchens and was born at McMinnville, OR. He was a retired automotive mechanic, a long time resident of Ola, AR and attended the Ola Free Will Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Tressie Miller Hutchens.

He is survived by a daughter, Rachel Rose of Russellville; four grandsons, Steve, Ronnie and Brian Rose all of Ola and Richard Rose of Russellville; two sisters, Myrtle Overbey of Knoxville, AR and Ruby Sykes of Grant Pass, OR; seven great-grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

Mrs. Emma Hutcherson, age 90, of Dardanelle died Sunday, June 15, 1986 at St. Mary's Hospital. She was the widow of Bill Hutcherson, daughter of the late Van and Fronia Wallace Davis, and was a charter member of South New Hope Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Pauline Giles and Novella Garner of Dardanelle, and Nadine Cotton of Russellville; 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Larry Gene Hvarven, 58, of Dardanelle died Monday, February 20, 2012. He was born March 19, 1953 at Macomb, IL to the late Dale and Marjorie Porter Hvarven. He enjoyed the outdoors. Camping and fishing is what he enjoyed the most. Spending time with his son, daughter and wife Deb made him the happiest. Larry always had a way of making people laugh. He always knew the right thing to say. He will be deeply missed.

We love you dad! He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his son, Jeremy Hvarven of Russellville; daughter, Heather Hvarven of Phoenix, AZ; one grandson, Ronahn Hvarven.

Hybner, Anna Mary "Granny"

Anna Mary "Granny" Hybner, age 80, of London, AR died Wednesday, January 31, 2001. She was born August 15, 1920 in Campbellton, TX, the daughter of the late Peter Gus and Frances Cecilia Havel Reinhardt. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Hybner; two daughters, Patricia Hybner Blankenship Kelly and Frances Louise Ledford and a son-in-law, Burt Remy.

She is survived by; two sons, William Raymond Hybner of Russellville, AR and James Richard Hybner of Hector, AR; two daughters and son-in-law, Hellen & Leon Fritz of Oroville, WA and Dorothy Remy of Chickasha, OK; two sons-in-law, Harl Clifton Ledford and Jessie Blankenship; 20 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Hyde, Elmore Truman

Elmore Truman Hyde, a retired printer of Plainview, died at the Ola Clinic on December 23.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice; three sons, Robert Scott of the home, Franklin Richard of Phoenix, Ariz., and Benjamin Edward, serving with the Air Force in France; and four grandchildren.

Karen Kay Ickenroth Phelps, 45, of Blue Mountain, AR was born September 9, 1964 in Santa Clara, CA to Jessie and Shirley Phelps. She passed away December 8, 2009 in Blue Mountain, AR. Karen attended the Assembly of God Church in Blue Mountain.

Funeral services were December 11, 2009 at Roberts Memorial Chapel in Booneville followed by burial at Graves Cemetery in Delaware, AR.

II, John Ed Chambers

DANVILLE: - John Ed Chambers II, 71, of Danville died Friday, December 16, at a Little Rock hospital following a brief illness. Chambers succeeded his father, the late Judge John Chambers, in 1946 as president and chairman of the board of Danville State Bank. He served in the position for41 years until his son, John Ed Chambers III, assumed the position of bank president last year. Chambers was mayor of Danville for eight years and served 10 years as a member of the Danville City Council from the 1940s to 1960. He was a past president of the Arkansas Tech University Alumini Association and served on the Tech board of trustrees two different times. He was inducted in the Tech Hall of Dinstinction in September 1977. Chambers served 43 years in the Yell County Conservation District board of directors and was 1957-59 president of the Arkansas Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts. He was instrumental in the development of a water supply for the towns of Belleville, Havana and Danville as well as other parts of Yell County. He served 21 years on the Yell County Hospital Board and spearheaded public fund drives in the 1960s and 1970s to expand the hospital. Chambers was a member of the American Bankers Association executive council from 1967-69, one of the few rural bankers ever named to the council. He was a past president of the Danville Lions Club and was active in the club for 41 years. He was named Arkansas Jaycee Boss of the Year in 1971. He was a graduate of Danville High School. He received a two-year degree from Arkansas Polytech Institute (now Arkansas Tech University) in 1936, a bachelor's degree in 1939 from the University of Arkansas and a doctor of law degree in 1940. Chambers practiced law at Danville from 1940 to 1943 before serving as a Navy officer during World War II, 1943-46. He was a life-long member of the Danville United Methodist Church and served on the church board of trustees.

Chambers is survived by his wife, Mrs. Patricia Sloan Chambers; a son, John Ed Chambers III of Danville; three daughters, Eugenia Jones, Patricia Meeks and KatherineCounce of Little Rock, and 10 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 19 at the Danville United Methodist Church. Rev. Mike Morey and Rev. Joe Kennedy officiated. II, Thomas James Cotton

LITTLE ROCK - Thomas James Cotton II, 69, died March 26 in the Veterans Hospital, Little Rock, after a long Illness. He was the son of the late Thomas James and Myrtle Love Cotton, the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Dave Love and Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Cotton. He was a veteran of World War II and spent four years in the U.S. Navy. He was a life-long resident of Dardanelle, an official with the Arkansas Highway Department 20 years, and a member of the First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Selma Cowger Cotton, one son, Thomas Leonard Cotton, two daughters, Margaret Cotton Hillyard and Beth Cotton Crain, all of Dardanelle; three sisters, Frances Cotton Smith, Dardanelle, Elizabeth Cotton Amis, Oklahoma City, Okla., and Rebecca Cotton Garner, Arkadelphia; and three grandchildren, Hannah and Haylie Hillyard, Sarah Margaret and Tom Cotton and Matthew Cotton Crain.

The funeral was March 29 at the Cornwell Chapel with burial in Brearley Cemetary by Cornwell Funeral Service. Pallbearers were Charles Hunt, Ed Love, A.B. Cox, Bob McKenzie, Reedy Warren, Buck Croom, Buddy Adcock and Thurman Jones. II, Thomas V. "Tom" Sturdivant

Tom Sturdivant, who pitched the New York Yankees to victory in Game 4 of the 1956 World Series on the day before Don Larsen's famed perfect game, died Saturday in his native Oklahoma City. He was 78. Sturdivant threw a complete game in a 6-2 win against the Brooklyn Dodgers on October 7, 1956, to even the best-of-seven series at 2-2 and set the stage for the only perfect game in World Series history. Whitey Ford, Sturdivant, Larsen, Bob Turley and Johnny Kucks threw five straight complete games in that series - a feat that hasn't been matched. Sturdivant was a member of the Yankees teams that played in the World Series in three straight years, beginning in 1955. He went 16-8 in 1956 and 16-6 in 1957, when he led the American League in won-lost percentage. He hurt his arm the following year and spent the rest of his career pitching with six different teams - Kansas City, Boston, Washington, Pittsburgh, Detroit and the New York Mets. II, Thomas Virgil Sturdivant

Thomas Virgil Sturdivant II, 78, passed away on February 28, 2009 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was born April 28, 1930 in Gordon, Kansas to Pete and Ethel (Moudy) Sturdivant. Tom was raised in Oklahoma City and attended Capitol Hill High School, where he said, "We worked at winning?" After high school he went to the minors as a pitcher and made steady progress on the mound before donning the pinstripes. Tom, nicknamed "Snake" for his excellent curveball, debuted on April 14, 1955 for the New York Yankees, where he played in the World Series in 1956 and 1957. During his career, he played with the Kansas City Athletics, the Boston Red Sox, the Washington Senators, the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Detroit Tigers, and the New York Mets. After his career in baseball, Tom worked as a freight manager for several trucking companies. Later he joined the Board of Directors for Metro Tech in Oklahoma City and for Integris Hospice of Oklahoma County. He loved playing golf and visiting with friends at Gerald's Doughnut Shop.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Tommy and Paul; and brother, Bob Sturdivant.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Elaine; son; Jeff Cohlmia; daughter, Amy Greco and husband Forest; grandchildren, Tommy Sturdivant, IV, Nathan Sturdivant, Jeremey Sturdivant, Joe Sturdivant, Marshall Sturdivant, Thomas Reynolds, and Joshua Reynolds.

Donald Ray Best III "Bubbs" age 5 months became an angel on Sunday, November 20, 2016. III, John "Jack" Shatford

John Shatford III (Jack) of El Dorado Springs, Missouri passed away on October 16th, 2016. A celebration of life will take place from 1-5 on Saturday, November 12th, 2016, at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 3310 East 380th Road, El Dorado, Springs, MO 64744. Jack was born on August 27th, 1945 in Bedford, Ohio to John H. Shatford and Dorothy Silsby Shatford. He graduated from Truman State with a degree in Biology. Jack has a blessed life with his wife Joy. Jack honored his country by serving in the Army in Vietnam. Jack retired from the Missouri Department of Conversation after 34 years of service. Jack treasured the outdoors as he was an avid hunter and fisherman which he greatly enjoyed doing with his Family and lifelong friends. Jack was a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Yell County Wildlife Federation and Ducks Unlimited.

Jack is survived by his loving wife Joy, son Kurt and wife Mary Raymore, Missouri, granddaughter and hunting buddy Sarah Ashley, granddaughter Shelby Lynn, niece Heidi Snellenburg and husband Jonathan of New York, step sister Judy Sinay and her husband Jim, step sister Karen Drake, several nieces and nephews, devoted special friends Len and Avis Cottton, and many caring friends.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, step mother Irene Shatford, his two sisters Anita Jane and Elaine Sue. So Jack, this is not goodbye; it is only until we meet again. You will be greatly missed.

III, John A. Scott

John A. Scott, III, son of John A., II and Gussie Pike Scott, was born August 17, 1926, in Yell County, Arkansas. He was baptized on September 30, 1926, in Arkansas and confirmed March 17, 1960 at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner by Rev. John Mohr. He attended Arkansas Tech in Russellville and the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville where he received his B.S. He later did graduate work at Oklahoma A&M University which is now Oklahoma State University. John served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and Korea. On January 1, 1948, he was united in marriage with Anna M. Cinger at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Dardenelle, Arkansas. John began his long career as a Vocational Agriculture instructor in Hector, Arkansas. He would then teach in Elk Horn, Coon Rapids, and Plymouth, Iowa before moving to Sumner in 1957. He remained at the Sumner Schools until retiring in 1990. John's death occurred at the University Hospitals in Iowa City on Tuesday, March 13, 2012. He was eighty-five years old and had been a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner. He was also a member of the Thomas E. Woods Post #223, American Legion where he served many years as adjutant, and was a board member and past president of the Iowa Vocational Agriculture Teacher's Association.

He is survived by eight daughters, Carol Feller of Bellevue, Karen (Frank) Smith of Bloomfield, New Mexico, Dianne Fuller of Springville, Joyce (Ron) Bast of Aplington, Sharon (Brett) Long of Racine, Wisconsin, Lynn Scott of Sumner, Ann (Steve) Cutshall of Allison, and Alice Scott of Sumner; nine grandchildren, Kerensa (Pat) Kettmann, Zebulon Strickler, Cyndel Bast, Amber and John Long, Alexander, Rubanna, Maryann, and John Cutshall; one great granddaughter, Bindi Kettmann; and three nieces, Tommie Nell Darst, Becca Jane Roden, and Leda Simms.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Anna, who died August 17, 1998; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Cutshall; his parents; two brothers,; five sisters; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 17, 2012, at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner with Rev. William Runaas, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery with military rites by Thomas E. Woods Post #223, American Legion of Sumner. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2012, at St John Lutheran Church and for one hour preceding services at the church on Saturday. Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner is in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made in his name to the American Diabetes Association or the Iowa FFA Foundation.
