Hicks, Charles Thomas

Charles Thomas Hicks, age 56, of Uniontown, AR died Friday, November 16, 2012 in a Fort Smilh Hospital. He was born August 31, 1956 to Charles B. Hicks and Edna Hicks Walker in Texarkana, TX. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and retired from Red River Army Depot, he was an Arkansas constable for District 1, Crawford County, and employed by Professional Security of Fort Smith.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Alan Hicks.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Monette Buford Hicks; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Daniel Hicks and David and Deanna Lambert; his mother and step-father, Edna and Jim Walker; his brother and sister-in- law, Jerry and Roxanne Hicks; and a sister and brother-in-law, Nelda and James Cromer.

Hicks, Delmer Sherman

Delmer Sherman Hicks, age 85, of Booneville died Sunday, October 28, 1984 at the Yell County Hospital at Danville.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Girtha M. Hicks; a son, John Hicks of Florida; two daughters, Mrs. Wilma Fennel of Louisiana and Mrs. Lois Catlett of Oregon; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Joan Yates of Plainview, Mrs. Euleda Blevins of Odessa, Mo; six grandchildren, and a number of great-grandchildren.

Hicks, E. J.

E. J. Hicks, age 77, died Friday at St. Mary's Hospital in Russellville after an extended illness. He was a retired refrigeration engineer and a longtime resident of Dardanelle.

Survivors include his wife, Velma, of the home; one daughter, Kathleen Balloun of Dardanelle; four sisters, Jewell Harvey, Jessie Murry and Lena Adams, all of Hot Springs, and Ethel Lowder of Little Rock; one brother, Homer Hicks of Hot Springs; four grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Orville Lee Brown, Pete Tillman, Everett Jaggers, Elmer Wesley, Ira Taylor and Wayne Holt, all of the Dardanelle area. Graveside service is scheduled for 2 p. m. Monday, November 24, at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Charleston. The Rev. Tony Berry of the First Baptist Church of Dardanelle will officiate. Edward L. Hicks, Jr. age 34 of Dardanelle, passed away Monday, December, 17, 2007 at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center. He was born August 19, 1973 in Danville to Edward L. and Brenda Kay Fergason Hicks. He was a good, loving husband, great father, good friend and attended the Amazing Grace Pentecostal Church at Dardanelle.

He is preceded in death by his father, Edward L. Hicks, Sr.; maternal grandparents, Opal and Kathleen Fergason; paternal grandparents, Everette and Martha Hicks.

Survivors include his loving wife of 16 years, Sandy Hicks of Dardanelle; 2 sons, Trey & Justin Hicks of Dardanelle; a daughter, Renee Hicks of Dardanelle; 3 brothers and sisters-in-law, Eugene and Terrie Morgan, Johnny Paul and Leeann Hicks, Brian and Margaret Hicks all of Centerville; 2 sisters and brothers-in-law, Cynthia and Wayne Gist of Centerville; Trina and Jerry Herring of Atkins; numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 21, 2007 at the Amazing Grace Pentecostal Church at Dardanelle with Bro. John Whorton and Bro. Jerry Williams officiating. Funeral for Everett Hicks Jr. and Phyllis Hicks, of Route 1, Dardanelle were killed Wednesday, November 5, 1980 when their pickup truck left Highway 154 east of Centerville and hit a tree, will be at 10 a. m. Saturday at Cornwell Chapel at Dardanelle. Burial will be in Petillo Hill Cemetery by Cornwell Funeral Service.

Their daughter, Tina Louise, suffered cuts and bruises. He is also survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Hicks of Centerville; three brothers, Thomas Luther, Edward L. and Jimmy Dean Hicks of Centerville, and two sisters, Mrs. Brenda Morgan of Dardanelle and Belinda Sue Hicks of Centerville. Girtha Mae Swaim Hicks, age 92, died Wednesday, April 16, 1997 at St. Mary's Hospital in Russellville. She was born in Aly, AR April 7, 1905. She was a retired nurse and member of the Plainview First Baptist Church.

Survivors include one brother, G. B. "Gurn" Swaim of Aly; a sister, Glyde Keener of Onyx; ten grandchildren and several great and great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. J. L. Hicks, age 87, died at her home in Danville August 29. She had lived in Arkansas since the age of three and in Danville since 1925. She was a member of the Danville Baptist Church.

Mrs. Hicks was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Lee Hicks and by five of their 12 children.

Jerry Hicks, age 54 of Belleville passed away Sunday, July 18, 2010 at his home. He was born August 10, 1955 in Great Bend, KS. to James Earl and Sylvia Dean Clayton Hicks. He was a member of the Ranger Free Will Baptist Church. He was a avid fisherman, hunter and an expert marksman and a straight shooter. He was a current member of the Sunrise Bass Club. He was injured in an industrial accident and became known as "Mr Mom" as he look over the duties of the home and caring for his son and daughter as Cathy continued to work full time as an RN. He attended Medora Grade School. Buhler Grade School and graduated from Buhler High School. He was a certified mechanic. Preceded in death by his father, James Earl Hicks; grandparents, Ernest & Bertha Hicks; and William & Laura Clayton.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years Cathy Hicks of Danville; daughter Jamie Lamb and husband Michael of Newton, KS; son Heath Hicks and wife Kellie of Long Pond, PA; mother Sylvia Dean Hicks of Inman, KS; brother Larry Hicks of Hutchinson, KS; grandson Kaden Hicks of Long Pond, PA; grandmother Genevieve Hicks of Joplin, MO; numerous aunts and cousins. Mary Jane (Pugh) Hicks, of Quitman, Arkansas, went home to her Lord on Sunday morning, March 9, 2008. She was born in Rover, Arkansas on February 4, 1928 to the late Clifford and Faye Pugh and has two brothers Harold Wayne Pugh (Alice) of Orange, California, and Bud Pugh (Jody) of Downey, California.

Jane is preceded in death by her husband Robert Dale Hicks and her grandson, Robert Scott Hicks. She is survived by one son, James (Jim) Franklin Hicks and, wife, Karen and their sons, Justin Hicks, Ryan Hicks and Stephen Hicks of Conway. She is also survived by one daughter Karen Hicks Ward and husband, Jim of Cabot and their children Chris Ward, wife, Ashley and their children Sophie and Caden of Sherwood, Arkansas and Amie (Ward) Simmons, husband, Alan, of Chicago, Illinois.

Jane, known as Nannie to her grandchildren and family was the consummate homemaker. Her home was always neat and organized and there was always something good cooking on the stove. She loved taking care of people and babysitting all the grandchildren as they grew up. Jane enjoyed being outdoors, visiting with her neighbors and taking care of the animals on the farm she and her husband raised prior to his death. She enjoyed her church family at First United Methodist Church at Quitman. Nannie loved to laugh and all her grandchildren will tell you she always met them with open arms, a kiss and a smile. Each one was special to her and she was always there to encourage, listen and love unconditionally. She will be dearly missed by all of us who knew her. Our family would like to thank Woodland Hills Nursing Home and Arkansas Hospice for their care.

Opha Leah Hicks Pearce Chester Hicks, age 79, Lee's Summit, MO passed away, Monday, July 29, 1996 at Lee's Summit Hospital. She was born January 3, 1917, in Danville AR, the eldest daughter of the late Charles G. and Bessie Renfrew Pearce. We attended school at Danville. She was a clerk for Sears Department Store for 30 years. She was a member of the Sears Retirees Club and a member of the Countryside United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Hicks in 1990 and her sister, Opal Marcum in 1993.

Survivors include one son, Donald F. Chester, Musatine, IA; three brothers, Houston Pearce, Modesto, CA, Joseph Pearce, Little Rock and Charles Pearce, Conway, AR; three grandchildren, Sharon Taylor, Mark Chester and Matthew Chester and two great-granddaughters.

Terry Lee Hiett, age 54 of Centerville, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at Baptist Health Medical Center. He was born June 29, 1954 to Winston and Berneice Hiett of Witts Spring. He was employed by Bibler Brothers Lumber Company.

He is preceded in death by his father, Winston Hiett and a grandson, Adam Christopher Collins.

Mrs. Reba Rose Higgins, age 75, of Danville, widow of Abe Higgins, died Tuesday, January 23,1990 at the Yell County Hospital. She was a native of Yell County, daughter of the late Walter and Ollie Tubbs Hurst, a member of the Mt. George Church of Christ, a housewife and mother.

Survivors are five sons, Doyle and Nathan Higgins of Dekalb, TX, Bobby Higgins of Malvern, Johnny Higgins of Koshkoning, MO and James P. Higgins of Birch Tree, MO; three daughters, Vernice Fleming of Havana, Genice Kristen of Mt. Highfill, Dora Lee

Dora Lee Highfill, was born on Thursday, August 14, 1902 in Montgomery County, AR to John G. and Mary Ann (Brewer) Copeland. She passed from this life on Saturday, April 22, 1995 at her home in Bixby, OK at the age of 92. She was a longtime resident of Bixby having moved here in May of 1950 from Gravelly, AR. She was a homemaker and member of Shellenbarger Free Will Baptist Church. Her family warmly remembers her many loves and interest such as being a wonderful cook, crocheting, sewing, gardening and flowers of all lands. A special tribute to her life was the fact that every child in the neighborhood lovingly called her Grandma regardless of any family relation or not. The delight of her life were the visits from her many friends, neighbors and loved ones.

She married her husband, Loy Highfill in September of 1924 hi Gravelly, AR. In 1974 they celebrated their golden anniversary at their home in Bixby with over 65 family members present including every immediate family member. On December 19, 1983 after 59 years of marriage, Loy preceded Dora in death.

She was also preceded by her parents, two brothers Willie and Fred Coepalnd and one sister, Lola Ammons.

She leaves, three daughters Leah Hogan of North Little Rock, AR, Mary Sams of Bixby and Sue Cheatham of Broken Arrow; three sons, Dalton of Castro Valley, CA, Carlton of Carrollton, TX and Bill of Tulsa; one sister, Hester Oglesbee of Gravelly, AR; one brother, Jeff Copeland of Wenatche, WA; 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Casket bearers included her grandsons Robert Lynn Hogan, Mike Highfill, Rick Highfill, Danny Highfill, Phillip Highfill, Bobby Sams, Steve Sams, Jon Cheatham, James Cheatham, Robert Bruce Sams and Steve Hood. Garlin Terry Hightower, age 61, of Oklahoma City, OK died Monday, February 12, 2001 at the VA Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born November 21, 1939 in Lindsey, OK to the late Garland and Heloise Hatfield Hightower. He was an Air Force Veteran and a well tester for Wei-Tex Inc. for twenty five years.

Survivors are six children, Gary Hightower and Sharon Miller both of Mustang, OK, Teri Dyan Ruddell and Buddy Hammer both of Midwest City, OK, Lisa Kay Smith and Sheryl Brawdy both of Oklahoma City, OK; one brother, Bill Hightower of Lindsey, OK; four sisters, Sylita Dessing and Danna Blanton both of Blanchard, OK, Garlene Holland of Linsey, OK and Barbara Collier of Oklahoma City, OK; 16 grandchildren and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Hignight, Adelaide (Person)

Mrs. Adelaide Person Hignight, aged 75, of Wing, a county civic and political leader, died Thursday. Mrs. Hignight was a former vice chairmen of the Yell County Democratic Committee and a former member of the County Welfare Board. She was a member of the Danville chapter of the Eastern Star for 50 years and taught school in the county for several years. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She was the widow of Morris Hignight.

She is survived by two brothers, Herbert Person of Wing and Joe Person of Missouri.
