Denney, Stuart William

Stuart William Denney, age 30, of Sherwood, Arkansas, passed March 2, 2012. Born in a military hospital in Stuttgart, Germany, on June 15, 1981, Stuart's life began with connections to the armed services as his parents, Woodrow Denney and Nancy Crawford, were both serving in the U. S Army. From Germany, Stuart moved with his family to Fort Sill, Oklahoma; Hot Springs, Arkansas; Guam; and North Little Rock, Arkansas. In 2000, Stuart graduated from North Pulaski High School in Jacksonville, Arkansas. Shortly after graduation, Stuart reported to boot camp in Fort Benning, Georgia, to complete basic training. Fort Rucker, Alabama, is where Stuart completed advanced training in Flight Operations. Stuart was a soldier with the Arkansas Army National Guard at Camp Joseph T. Robinson in North Little Rock. While serving in the Arkansas Army National Guard, Stuart volunteered for two tours of duty in Iraq. He also volunteered a third time for a peace-keeping tour of duty in Kosovo. Stuart worked in Flight Operations, coordinating, among other responsibilities, medical evacuations for wounded soldiers. During his ten years of service to his country, Sergeant Denney was awarded numerous commendations and service medals. In his civilian life, he was the shipping and receiving manager for Bed, Bath and Beyond in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Being a man of few words, Stuart was always direct and straight to the point. Stuart could talk the ears off of those people with whom he developed close relationships. Although large in stature and capable in combat, Stuart had a gentle side that anyone with children saw in him. Stuart was shy and unassuming. He enjoyed Sci Fi, space movies, and computer games. His friends and family appreciated and understood that Stuart possessed a dry and wry sense of humor and great smile. He was definitely a "meat and meat kind of guy as long as there was plenty of A-1 sauce, with Slim Jims on the side." Anybody who truly knew Stuart knew that he loved his family, his friends, his brothers in arms and the military.

Stuart is survived by his parents; Athena Hum, sister; Amber Denney, sister; and a large extended family.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Fred Denney, and his maternal grandparents, Franklin and Constance Crawford.

Funeral services was March 9, 2012, at Huson Funeral Home in Sherwood, Arkansas. Burial was at the Arkansas Veterans' Cemetery on Maryland Avenue in Sherwood, Arkansas. Memorials can be made to Wounded Warrior Project.org or Fisher House.org in Stuart's honor.
