Caldwell, Helen (Miller) (Mrs.)

On January 7th, 1934, at 2:30 o'clock in the morning, death again saddened the home of Mr. Dow Caldwell by calling away his beloved wife, Mrs. Helen Miller Caldwell. Mrs. Caldwell leaves to mourn her death, her husband and three children, a father and mother, eight brothers and four sisters, and a host of other relatives and friends. In memory of Mrs. Helen Caldwell we submit that God the Father of us all saw fit to send His Death Angel again to earth for the calling away of one of His precious possessions. Not a long while here did she proclaim the life of Christ; yet how beautiful were the words that braved the way and said "I'm not afraid to die." With mourning and sorrow we grieve to see friends and loved ones called to go. Yet God, in His creation, knew well how things must flow. Do not grieve, dear parents, for you know that your loved one has gone to dwell with Jesus in a beautiful home. Oh, sweet were her words to say she'd be at rest when gone. How patient her waiting to the bidding that did come quickly when she'd have to go - just waiting for the meeting of Jesus and answering the invitation once and forever more. A Friend (WWW.YellCountyObits.org,Post-Dispatch Newspaper, Dardanelle, Arkansas, Obituary was published on Jan 18, 1934 - Obituary courtesy of Dardanelle Public Library Archives, Arkansas River Valley Regional Library System, Dardanelle, Arkansas)

Cale, D. C.

Mr. D. C. Cale, aged 87 years, venerable and well-loved citizen of Chickalah, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. L. 0. Tippin, at Chickalah at 11:30 o'clock Sunday night, January 4th, 1942.

The funeral service, conducted by Rev. E. W. Faulkner, was held in the Chickalah Methodist Church Tuesday afternoon, burial being in Brearley Cemetery. Mr. Cale was born in Mississippi in 1855. When a small child he moved with his parents to Eastern Arkansas, where his parents soon died, leaving the children orphans in a strange country. Following the loss of his parents, he lived with neighbors until he became old enough to take care of himself. At the age of 18 Mr. Cale came to Yell County. When 23 years of age he married Miss Mary Cole. They celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on December 11th, 1941. Mr. Cale was a man of high character and a citizen of great usefulness to his community. Though modest and unassuming in his relationship with his fellows, he yet stood staunchly and unswervingly for right and justice, and for more than half a centry has lent his influence and support to the moral, educational and material betterment of mankind. For many years he was engaged in the mercantile business at Chickalah, and in all his dealings was fair and generous. He was a true friend to the poor, and often contributed to their relief and support though knowing full well that he would never receive a penny for the aid he extended. Honored, respected and loved by all who came in contact Iwith him, he lived to a ripe old age, and his death brought sorrow to all who knew him. Besides his wife, Mr. Cale is survived by six children: W. R. Cale, of Holdenville, Okla.; Rev. Charles Cale, of Chickalah; Dr. Walter Cale, of Atkins; Mrs. Fred C. Burnett, of Russellville; Mrs. R. P. Campbell, of Dardanelle; Mrs. L. O. Tippin, of Chickalah; also by 17 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

The Post-Dispatch extends it's deepest sympathy to surviving members of the family.
