Barnett, Jimmy Ray

Mr. Jimmy Ray Barnett, age 41, of Dardanelle, AR died Saturday, May 3, 1997, at AMI St. Mary's Hospital in Russellville. He was born June 26, 1955 in Russellville, AR. He was a laborer with Russellville Steel.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Girtha Bailey Barnett and two brothers, James Lee and Jackie Barnett.

Survivors include a daughter, Christy Raeleane Jones of Centerville; his father, John Henry Barnett of Slaty Crossing; a brother, John Phillip Barnett of Chickalah; three sisters, Patsy Dees, Donna Gaddis and Sheila Gilbert all of Slaty Crossing; one grandson, Joseph Layton of Centerville and several nephews and nieces.

Services will be today, Wednesday, May 7, 1997 at 2:00 pm, Cornwell Chapel in Dardanelle with the Rev. Steve Copeland officiating. Interment will be in the Ringer Cemetery, Centerville by Cornwell Funeral Home of Dardanelle. Barnett, John Henry

John Henry Barnett, age 81 of Dardanelle, died Friday, October 3, 2003 at his home. He was born December 24, 1921 in the Kingston Community, Yell County, Arkansas to the late John Robert and Lou George Barnett. He was a farmer and drove a truck for Tom Jones Lumber Company for many years and then went to work for Legacy Lodge Nursing Home in Russellville, where he was Maintenance Supervisor. He was a WWII Army Veteran.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Girtha Bailey Barnett; three sons, James Barnett, Jimmy Barnett and Jackie Barnett; three brothers, Leroy Barnett, James Loyd Barnett, Robert S. Barnett; one sister, America Tedder and a half-brother, James Floyd West.

Survivors are one son, John Phillip Barnett of Dardanelle; three daughters, Patsy Ann Deeds, Donna Jean Gaddis and Sheila Lynn Gilbert, all of Dardanelle; fourteen grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Services were Monday, October 6, 2003 at Cornwell Chapel, Dardanelle with Rev. Joe Yates officiating. Interment was in Ringer Cemetery with military honors by Boyce-Woods VFW Post 4131 in Dardanelle. Pallbearers were Jiggs Adair, Doyle Claypool, Carl Minehart, Bobby Lyons, Kenneth Crow, Thelbert Hamilton. Honorary was Henry Thompson. Barnett, Mildred Grace Carroll

Mildred Grace Carroll Barnett, 81 of Dardanelle died Tuesday, July 10, 2001. Born April 15, 1920 in Chickalah, she was the daughter of the late A. W. Carroll. Survivors, all of the Dardanelle area, include her husband of 57 years, W. W. Barnett SR., son Wilson Barnett, Jr. and his wife, Linda, daughter, Millie M. Miles, 4 grandchildren, Julia Judkins, Jennifer Cummings, Emilee Miles, and D. C. Miles, 3 great, grandchildren, Justin Wade, Jennifer Judkins, and Jessica Cummings.

Barnett, Raymond Dale

Raymond Dale Barnett, age 54, of Booneville, AR passed away Sunday, May 7, 2000, in Paris, AR. He was a veteran of the Navy during the Vietnam Conflict, a member of Booneville VFW Post 5248 and was a Baptist. He was also a deputy sheriff in Merced County, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tariff and Alma Barnett and a brother, J. T. Barnett.

He is survived by, his wife, Loretta Barnett of Booneville, AR; two daughters, Kristine Post of Queen City, TX and Misty Goode of Wilburton, OK; four sons, Kenneth John Barnett of DeKalb, TX, Kevin Ray Barnett of Fouke, AR, Chris Smith of Wilburton, OK and Greg Smith of Booneville, AR; one sister, Blondie Burrows of Danville, AR; one brother, Danny Barnett of Waveland, AR; nine grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Barnett, U. C.

U. C. Barnett, 85, former superintendent of the Dermont public schools and former teacher in Yell County died Friday afternoon in a Dermont hospital. Mr. Barnett, a retired teacher, had been a hospital patient about two weeks. His condition become critical about a week ago. Before his retirement, Mr. Barnett had taught in Arkansas public schools 36 years and for five years was an instructor at the College of the Ozarks, Clarksville.

Barnett, Wanda Lea

Wanda Lea Barnett, age 85, of Dardanelle, AR died Thursday, August 21, 2008. She was born April 30, 1923 at Delaware, AR to the late William Robert and Lillie Jane Booth Rollans. She was a member of the Chickalah Church of Christ, where she was a Sunday school teacher for 40 years, a member of the EH Club for 62 years and a 4-H Club leader.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lemoyne Barnett; a granddaughter, Leslye Warnock; four brothers and seven sisters.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Reedy Rounsaville of Belleville, AR; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Vicki Barnett of Pottsville, AR; grandsons, Phillip Warnock of Texas, Shelby, Todd and Rusty Barnett all of Pottsville.

Barnett, William Thomas

William Thomas Barnett was born October 2, 1871 at Alpha, Ark. and died Sunday April 8th. He had spent most of his life in Yell County.

He is survived by five sons Ben, Jim and Homer of Havana, Dogan and Joe of Danville; and one daughter, Mrs. Sadie Weldon of Ft. Smith and one brother, Frank Barnett of Danville 19 grandchildren and six great grand children.

Barnum, Richard Roland

Richard Roland Barnum, age 63, of Dardanelle formerly of Riverside, CA, died Wednesday, September 28, 2005 at Chambers Memorial Hospital. He was born September 12, 1942 at Toledo, Ohio to the late Richard Paul and Pauline J. Ropp Barnum. He was a supervising computer programmer for Stater Brothers Market in Colton, CA for 10 years and was a dedicated husband for 41 years to his wife Sonia Barnum and a loving father and grandfather.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Olive Werner of Toledo, Ohio.

Barrick, Harold Wayne

Harold Wayne Barrick passed away December 1, 2005 in Las Vegas. He was born on September 11, 1924 at Riley Creek, Arkansas. He was a school teacher and basketball coach for 35 years. He taught school and coached basketball in California, eastern Oklahoma, Dibble and Wanette, OK. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends; he was a man of integrity, a kind gentle man with a wealth of knowledge and will be greatly missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Bess Barrick; two brothers, Earl and L.C. Barrick.

Archie Andrew Barry, age 83, of Morrilton, Arkansas passed away Saturday, December 10, 2005. He was born July 22, 1922 in Plainview, AR, a son of Hugh Jackson Barry and Dora Estella Mund Barry. He was a deacon and fifty year choir member of Morrilton First Baptist Church, WWII U.S. Coast Guard Veteran, 32nd Degree Mason and a retired maintenance general mechanic from Arkansas Kraft.

He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Ernestine Leach Barry of Morrilton; two sons, Dennis Barry of Arlington, TX, Steve Barry of North Little Rock; two brothers, James Barry of Lodi, CA, Jack Barry of Blue Springs, MO; one sister, Anna Jane Latimer of Lockesburg, AR and three grandchildren.

Minnie Belle Montgomery Barry - It is with profound regret and sorrow we chronicle the death of Mrs. William H. Barry, which occurred at her home four miles southwest of Dardanelle at 11 o'clock last Thursday morning, January 30, 1936. Mrs. Barry, who was formerly Miss Minnie Belle Montgomery, was born at Abbieyille, Miss., in 1869, being at the time of her death 67 years of age. She was united in marriage to Mr. Barry on October 22, 1885, at Rover. She is survived by her husband; four daughters, Mrs. Hallie Arnett of Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Otho Oliver of Claremore, Okla., Mrs. Jarrett Davis and Mrs. Forrest M. Sparling of Little Rock; two brothers Dr. Tom Montgomery of Bluffton, and Dr. Lee Montgomery of Gravelly; four sisters, Mrs. J. C. Caviness, of Danville; Mrs. J. C. Ship, of Forrester; Mrs. L. Carter of Houston, Tex.; Mrs. Alice Nickleson of Del Rio, Tex.

Funeral services were held at New Hope Church Saturday afternoon, being conducted by Rev; E. E. Stevenson, pastor of the Dardanelle Methodist Church.

Mrs. Barry was a splendid Christian woman, loved and admired throughout the circle of her acquaintanceship for her beautiful character, her deeds of kindliness and goodness and the love she manifest toward her associates. Barry, Virgie Adelynne Breashears

Mrs. Virgie Adelynne Breashears Barry, 93, of Portland, AR died Saturday, September 6, 1997 at the Ashley Memorial Hospital in Crossett. She was born in Plainview, AR, Yell County, on September 4, 1904. She was the youngest of eleven children born to Lemuel Cahzeel and Mary Ellen Hogan Breashears. She graduated from Central Baptist College in Conway in 1926 and Ouachita Baptist College (University in Arkadelphia in 1928 with a degree in education. A devoted educator, she taught first grade in Plainview from 1928 until 1939 and third grade in Portland from 1952 until her retirement in 1969. She was a member of the Arkansas Education Association, the Ashley County Retired Teachers Association and she was a member of the Portland Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Clifton Barry in 1974; a step-daughter, Nell Barnwell of Cabot and nine brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her children, Mary Jane Gee and Martha Rose Dolan both of Crossett, Gary Clifton Barry of Portland, Rebecca Ann Baumgardner of Gurdon, Alice Faye Arnold of Horatio and one stepdaughter, Nancy Jordan of Sheffield, AL; a sister, Effie Thompson of Danville; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was Monday at the Portland Baptist Church with Bro. Jerry Selby and Rev. Ted Grove officiating. Interment was in the Portland Cemetery. Deforest Bartholomew, Sr. age 67, a resident of Ola, AR died Tuesday, June 2, 1998 at UAMS Medical Center at Little Rock, AR. He was born on March 23, 1931 at Santa Maria, CA to Robert and Mabel Patty Bartholomew. He was a retired Chief Quarter Master with U. S. Coast Guard and a Veteran of the Vietnam Era.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Bartholomew of Ola, AR; two sons, Deforest Bartholomew, Jr. and Stephen Robert Bartholomew both of Ola, AR; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Carolyn Bartholomew of Long Beach, CA; numerous nieces and nephews.

Marietta Ellison Bartholomew, age 92, a resident of Prairie Grove, Arkansas, went to be with her Lord on April 9, 2009 at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She was born March 29, 1917 in Yell County, Arkansas, the daughter of Luther Lee and Effie George Ellison. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Prairie Grove, Arkansas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Bartholomew and one great grandson, John Robert Huff.

Survivors include two sons, Kenny Bartholomew and his wife, Billye and Bill Bartholomew all of Fayetteville, Arkansas; grandchildren, Jackie Bartholomew, Kelly Bartholomew Huff and her husband, Phil, Kendra Bartholomew Williams and her husband, Jim, A. J. Bartholomew, Lori and John Bartholomew; great grandchildren, Jennifer and Nicholas Huff, Heather Bartholomew, J Henry, Lauren, Chance and Win Williams; several nieces and one nephew.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin Deomoid Bartlett; a daughter, Venoda Balloun; a great grandchild, Kara Jill Black and 2 sons-in-law, Gerald Cole and Herb Burris.

Survivors include 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Irvin Dewane & Barbara Bartlett of Darrington, Washington and Paul & Cathy Bartlett of Dardanelle, Arkansas; 4 daughters and 2 sons-in-law, Hazel Burris of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Bobbie Cole of Russellville, Arkansas, Genelda & Charles Osburn of Russellville, Arkansas, and Patsy & Reverend Jackie Pledger of Dover, Arkansas; 19 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; a nephew and niece-in-law, Lawrence & Jessie Wooten of Russellville, Arkansas; and other relatives and friends.

Barton, H. D.

72- Year Old Man Found After 3 Days In Woods; Dies In Hospital - A 72- year old Texas man, who was found about 3 p. m. Sunday on Mt. Magazine after being lost for three days, died four hours later in a Paris hospital.

The lost man, H. D. Barton, had been missing from the farm home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. H. H. McPherson of near Waveland. Sheriff Earl E. Ladd reported that he was found lying head down in a ravine and was bruised and skinned all over like he had been crawling. His pants and shoes were found about eight feet up the hill from where he was found. He was about 50 feet from a road and about a mile and a half north of the McPherson home. He had an injured left hip and used a crutch to aid his walking. The two men who found him, J. B. Self and Gene Wiseman, said they heard him groaning and located him in the woods. He was mumbling something which they understood to be "water" Sheriff Ladd had been directing a search for three days and had been assisted one day by men from Camp Chaffee and Saturday by Guardsmen from Dardanelle and Booneville.

The McPherson family reported they discovered Barton missing about 1 p. m. last Thursday after they finished their noon meal and went onto the porch where he had been sitting. The family reported he suffered lapses of memory and had started to walk off from the house on several occasions but they had always stopped him before he got far. Burial will be in Texas. Baskin, Ora M. Harkey

Mrs. Ora M. Harkey Baskin, age 96, of Casa, widow of William Dewey Baskin, SR., died Saturday, July 3, 1993 at the Yell County Nursing Home in Ola. Mrs. Baskin was born October 30, 1896 in Casa, Arkansas to the late Henry Clay and Louisa J. Scoggins Harkey. She was a mother and housewife. A member of the Casa First Baptist Church and the SR. LADIES SUNDAY SCHOOL.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, William "W. D." and Oleta Baskin of Ola and a daughter and son-in-law, Louise and Ret. Lt Colonel Louis Greinke of Casa; 3 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Services were Tuesday, July 6 at the First Baptist Church, Casa by the Rev. Refas Calwell. Interment was in the Casa Cemetery by Cornwell Funeral Service. Baskin, William D. "W. D."

William D. "W. D." Baskin, Jr. age 79, of Casa, AR died Thursday, January 4, 2001 at the Dardanelle Nursing Center. He was born October 12, 1921 in Casa to the late William D. Sr. and Ora Mae Harkey Baskin. He was a graduate of Arkansas Tech and earned his master s degrees from UCA at Conway. He retired after 41 years as the superintendent of the Perry-Casa School District. He also coached basketball at Perry-Casa for 17 years, he was a WWII Navy Veteran and a member of the First Baptist Church in Casa, a 32 degree Mason and a member of the Casa Masonic Lodge and Avid sports fan, having played and pitched for several professional baseball teams, including the Navy, Hagerstown Maryland, Gadsden Alabama and the Memphis Chicks baseball teams. He also played baseball at Arkansas Tech and with a semi-pro team at Danville.

Survivors are his wife of 52 years, Oleta English Baskin; two daughters and son-in-law, Sandra Gail and Robert "Bob" Baugh of Raleigh, NC and Patti Baskin of Russellville, AR; one sister, Elizabeth Louis Greinke of Casa, AR; two grandchildren, Courtney Allison Baugh of Raleigh, NC and David Matthew Baugh of Durham, NC.

Service was January 7, 2001 at the First Baptist Church in Casa with Dr. Bill Brown officiating. Interment was in the Casa Cemetery by Cornwell Funeral Home of Danville, AR. Pallbearers were Marvin Rainey, Jeremy Rainey, Luther Hance, Don Dodson, James Townsell and Alan Harris. Honorary were former students of the Perry-Casa School District. Baskin, William Dewey

William Dewey Baskin, Sr., age 73, of Casa, died July 28, 1971, at a Danville Hospital. He was formerly engaged with the Frisco Railroad, the ARVAC Office and with the Casa Post Office. He was a native of Casa, a son of the late Thomas E. and Eliza Smith Baskin. He was a veteran of World War I, a mason and a member of the Casa Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ora M. Harkey Baskin; one son, William D Baskin, Jr.; one daughter, Mrs. Louise Greinke of Rochester, N.Y.; two granddaughters, Sandra and Patty Baskin; one nephew and three nieces.

Funeral services were held at the Casa Baptist Church Saturday afternoon with Rev. Eugene Corder, officiating, assisted by Rev. Caldwell and Bro. Luther Whitfield. Interment was at Casa Cemetery. Joseph Arnold Bass, aged 73, Dutch Creek, died at his home Monday October 11, 1954. He was born at Denning, Ark. December 29, 1880, but spent most of his life in Yell County.

Bass, Melvin Harding

Melvin Harding Bass, age 65, of Santa Fe died Monday at Mainland Center Hospital in Texas City. He was formerly from Havana.

Services were held at the James Crowder Funeral Home in Dickinson by Rev. Mack Lavine and Bro. James Gee officiating. Burial was in the Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcok.

He was born September 2, 1920 in Stapp, OK and was an electrician, a member of I. B. E. W. Local 527 and was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine "Gerry" Bass; two daughters, Sandra Gayle Hammack and Barbara Jean Minter; and one son, Melvin Dale Bass, all of Santa Fe; one sister, Ann Jones of Little Rock; one brother, Clifford Bass of Tulsa, OK and nine grandchildren.

Graciela Hernandez Basulto, age 40 of Danville, died Monday, February 8, 2010 at St. Joseph Hospital in Hot Springs. She was born March 1, 1969 in San Luis Soyatlan Jalisco, Mexico. She was a line worker for Wayne Poultry in Danville and a member of St. Andres Catholic Church in Danville.

Survivors include her parents, Juan Salazar and Maria de Jesus Basulto Hernandez of Mexico; ten siblings, Jose, Lourdes, Noemi, Reyes and Sonia Hernandez all of Arkansas; Juan and Esther Hernandez, Maria Guadalupe Fernandez, Rogelio Hernandez and Maria de Jesus Hernandez all of California.

DELAWARE - Mrs. Ardella Harshfield Bata, 90, died December 11, 1980 at Dardanelle Nursing Center. She was the daughter of the late James and Elda Farrington Harshfield and was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church.

Mary Esther Batchelor age 96 of Dardanelle died Monday, July 15, 2002 at the Dardanelle Hospital. Mrs. Batchelor was born December 27, 1905 in Centerville, Arkansas to the late Walter Nelson and Mary Petillo Benefield. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Len Batchelor.

Bates, Andrew S.

Andrew S. Bates, age 48, of Russellville, AR, formerly of New York City, New York, died Monday, March 8, 2010, at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock, AR. The son of Edward and Mildred Hojer Bates, he was born on February 26, 1962 in New York City. He married Stephanie Schickle Bates on June 7, 1986 in Honolulu, HI. He served proudly in the U. S. Navy for 9 years. He was a former Nuclear Reactor Operator with Entergy. He was a proud father and husband and couldn t wait to see his son's name in lights. Andrew enjoyed the peace and frustration of golf, and the agony of 41 years as a fan of the New York Jets. He was passionate about the eternal pursuit of knowledge and wisdom.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert W. Bates.

Jimmie Ray Bates, age 74, of Dardanelle died Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center. He was born July 31, 1933 at Chickalah to the late Amos Brown and Ruby Ulena Higgins Bates. He was a member of the Chickalah Church of Christ and an avid bowler, involved in numerous bowling leagues throughout his life. He was a machinist in the aircraft industry. He loved water skiing, camping, and his hot tub.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lesley Manuel Bates and Wesley Leon Bates.

Survivors include his wife of seven years, Jane Bates of Dardanelle; sons, William Robert "Bill" Bates and Guy Keith Bates both of Santa Barbara, CA; daughters Lesley Avon Steams of Santa Barbara, CA, Mary Beth Balsa of Allburn, WA, Crystal Corinne Kerns of Huntington Beach, CA; five step children; Mike Sanders of Yreka, CA, Tom Sanders of Springdale, Carol Romine of Clearwater, FL, Judy Woodward of Merrita, CA, Kathy Dipple of the home; brother and sister-in-law, Presley and Mary Lee Bates of Prairieville, LA; sister, Linda Johnson of Covina, CA; sixteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren and three on the way; thirteen step grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; host of nieces, nephews and many friends.
