John Jefferson Parker, died April 26, 1958 at his home at Aly. He was 85 years old, a retired farmer and a member of the Baptist Church.
He is survived by two sons, Willie Parker of Seymore, Tex. and Jeffie Parker of Wasgum, Tex. four daughters, Lillie Priddy of Camden, Susie Priddy of Seymore, Tex., Evalee Smith of Hot Springs, Sallie Stokes of Aly; 29 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. John Tiley Parker, aged 59, North Little Rock, a brakeman for the Missouri Pacific lines, died Friday at a Little Rock hospital. He was a native of Paris and had lived at North Little Rock for 19 years. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, the Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge at Branch.
He is survived by his wife, Molly Ida Patterson Parker; a son Jon Tiley Parker, Jr. of North Little Rock; a brother, H. V. Parker of Albuquerque, N. Birta Hunter Has Fatal Attack - Lee Parker, 53, of Birta died Tuesday of a heart attack suffered as he was on his way duck hunting. Parker had parked his car off Highway 10 near Mickles and was walking across the railroad tracks toward the Petit Jean bottoms when he suffered the attack. He waved to get the attention of a railroad crew working nearby, and one of the men, J. W. Bird of Havana, left to take Parker to the hospital in Danville. Parker was dead upon examination by a doctor. He was a Mason and had been employed by Rock Island for 32 Years. He had been on sick leave for five months due to a heart condition and a gall bladder operation.

Solomon Parrish, age 69, passed away September 28, 1958 at the home of his son in Snyder, Tex. Mr. Parrish had been a resident of Booneville for the last 20 years and was visiting his son at the time of his death.

Mrs. Mary Pearl Shields Parsons of Ola died Monday night at a Little Rock hospital. She was the widow of George Parsons of Ola. Mrs. Parsons was a member of the Plainview school faculty and formerly taught at Ola.

George Partain, age 79, died Saturday at his home in Yell County. He was a native of Arkansas and a well known farmer.

Ezra Payne, age 88, of Havana died in a Little Rock hospital on December 24, 1954. He moved from Georgia as a child and spent most of his life in Yell County. He was a Methodist and retired farmer.
He is survived by six sons, Delmar of Belleville, Melvin and Ray of Rives, Mo. Loyd of Cushing, Okla; Dewey and Mahon of Richmond, Calif; four daughters, Mrs. G. C. Sides of Dexter, Mo. Mrs. Lee White of Havana, Mrs. Seth James of Dardanelle and Mrs. Freeman Smith of Paris; a half brother, J. O. Payne of Belleville and several grandchildren, great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

John Oliver Payne, age 77, native of Yell County, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lois Oates, of Belleville Wednesday. A member of a pioneer Yell County family, Mr. Payne was a retired farmer and stockman. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church.

Virgil Melton Payne, 53, a lifetime resident of Hot Springs, died Friday, March 27, 1958 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Hot Springs. He was a member of the Baptist Church, American Legion, VFW and a veteran of World War II.

Zelmar Payne, 57 year old chief gauger for Cities Service Pipe Line Co. Cushing, Okla. was found dead of a heart attack while on duty south of Cushing, July 22, 1955.
Loyd Carmen, Cities Service engineer, who discovered Payne, said he began to look for the gauger after Mrs. Payne telephoned him that her husband had not arrived for lunch. Carmen said he checked all tanks at the company's tank farm before finding Payne in a relaxed position at the wheel of his car with one arm out the window. The car was partially hidden from view by the tank. Reports found in the car indicated that Payne had gauged a tank about 9 a. m. He had driven his car to the tank, climbed the stairway to the top of the tank made the gauge and returned to his car. His reports were found on the seat beside him and his hat was in the back seat where he had apparently laid it on returning. Cities Service employees had searched the tanks farms after Payne had failed to report in after 9 a. m. The tank farm near Yale was also searched. He was born October 23, 1897, at Havana and was married to Kate Moudy in 1920. He had been employed with the Cities Service Pipe Line since 1927.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Kate Payne of the home, one son, Kenneth Payne stationed in Tokyo, Japan with the Air Force; three grandsons, two brothers, Otho Payne of Bauxite, Paul Payne with the Navy in Cuba and two sisters, Mrs. Gloyd Buckman and Mrs. Lois Oates of Belleville. M. S. Pearce, age 71, died at his home in Danville Sunday morning, November 19, 1950. He had lived in Yell County for the past50 years, where he was an active member of the Masonic Lodge and of the Baptist church. This he was awarded a 50 year pin by the Masons in special ceremonies held at the Danville Lodge. He had recently retired as owner and operator of the Danville Monument Works.
He is survived by his wife, May Pearce; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Ann Breed of Paris, AR; seven sons, Grady Pearce of St. John, Kansas, Granville and Dick Pearce of Little Rock, Melvel Pearce of Havana, Ray Pearce of Birta, Lovel and Woodrow Pearce of Salina, Calif. Ola Man Killed In Logging Accident -- Lawrence Shorty Petillo, age 55, of Ola was killed Monday afternoon in a logging accident south of Rover near Highway 27. Petillo was operating a log loading winch on a truck, when it apparently got out of control and started the truck rolling. He either tried to jump clear or fell off and the truck ran over him. He was dead when an ambulance arrived. Six men working with him on the crew were nearby, but did not see the accident. Royce Jackson Petillo, age 51, farmer and stockman of Centerville, died in a Russellville hospital last Thursday. Mr. Petillo was a native of Centerville and had lived there his entire life.

Aubrey Phillips, age 38, died at a hospital in Pontiac, Mich. Sunday, September 2, 1951. Born in Danville, August 12, 1913, he was the son of Asgual and Minnie Vastine Phillips. He married Lydia Lebith Ball in 1935. He moved to Michigan from Yell County in 1937.

Three year old Gerald Pickens, son of Mr. and Mrs. Buford Pickens of Lindsay, Calif., suffered fatal injuries when he fell from the car in which he was riding with his mother last week.
Buford Pickens is the nephew of Thed Pickens of Danville and was raised in Fourche Valley. Mrs. Pickens was driving in Lindsay with Gerald in the back seat when she noticed the left rear door swing open. She stopped the car as soon as she could but Gerald had fallen out and was lying on the pavement. The child was hurried to the hospital, but died within 20 minutes after the fall. Ola Man Is Killed By Truck - Jim Pitts, age 56, of Ola was killed Tuesday afternoon when the rear wheel of a logging truck ran over him as he jumped from the end of the vehicle. The accident occurred about a quarter of a mile north of Ola. Pitts was employed by I. T. Keller, logging contactor, and was returning home when the accident occurred.

William Alexander Pitts, aged 79, a retired merchant of Ola, died March 8, 1960 at the Yell County Hospital. He was a Methodist and a Mason.

James Virgil Pledger, age 65, retired merchant here and a former leader in Yell County activities, died in his home last Friday after an illness of several years. He was born in Belleville, the son of the late James A. and Katie Pledger.

Mrs. Katie Love Smith Pledger, age 85, a resident of Belleville 64 years and a pioneer Arkansas school teacher, died at her home in Belleville Saturday. Mrs. Pledger was born in Weakly County, Tennessee and moved with her parents to Yell County in 1872, settling near Dardanelle. They later moved to Marvinville and then to Belleville. She was the daughter of James Nathan and Sallie Love Smith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Abraham Pledger, who was a retired merchant, druggist and former post-master.
Mrs. Pledger is survived by four children, Virgil Pledger of Danville; Opal Pledger, Belleville; Fave Abraham Pledger, Amarillo, TX.; and Mrs. Nina Deason, Little Rock; by eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Fort Smith man Drowns at Nimrod....Ernest R. Pogue, about 70, retired Fort Smith railroad man, drowned Tuesday afternoon about 2:30 when his boat turned over in swift water just below the Lake Nimrod dam. His companion, Walter Bell, also of Fort Smith, became entangled in a trot-line and was rescued, suffering only cuts and scratches from hooks on the line. The two were said to have been trying to row against the current and were losing ground, when one of them grabbed a bush sticking out of the water and the boat turned over. After an all-night search by volunteers, the body was discovered about 9:45 Wednesday morning by John Hancock and Van Leabo of Danville, in about six feet of water approximately 100 feet below where the boat overturned. Bert Wells Poole, age 68, of Russellville, died in the hospital there Sunday. He formerly lived at Ola and moved from Yell County about seven years ago. He operated at hatchery in Russellville. He was a member of the Baptist Church.

Mrs. Rosetta Poplin, aged 63, wife of Horace Poplin, died Friday at a Russellville hospital. She was a lifelong resident of Yell County and was a member of the Plainview Assembly of God.

John Thomas Poteet was born February 28, 1881 near Guntown, Miss. He moved to Plainview when just a young man. There he met and married Francis Ophelia Patterson June 4, 1914, daughter of Renold Patterson of Balloon, Ark.
To this union was born eight children of whom five still are living Mrs. James Day, Luxora, Ark. Thomas Ozell of Union City Tenn. Opal L and Patsy Ruth of the home and Pvt. J. C. Poteet in the army stationed in Japan. He also leaves four brothers and one sister, Sam, Creig, White and Ozell Poteet of Guntown, Miss, and India Cayson of Tupelo, Miss. three grand children and a number of nieces and nephews.
He had been in poor health for about 14 months. He had a heart attack about one month ago and another April the 8th, 1949 which took him away. He joined the Christian Church at an early age in Mississippi.

Niecy Agnes Patterson Poteet was born March 2, 1884 at Ola and passed away her home in Stelle, MO on December 24 at the age of 64 years. She was united in marriage to James Albert Poteet on December 6, 1905. To this union there was born seven children Bert, Hobart, Clarence, and Mary Belle of Steele, Mrs. Cline Page of Steel and Glenn and Leonard of Luxora, Ark. all of whom survived. Her husband preceded her in death January 13, 1925.
She was a member of the Methodist Church. In addition to her children she is survived by 10 grand children, 3 sisters, Mrs. O. L. Green, Mrs. Tom Watson of Plainview, and Mrs. Tom Poteet of Luxora, and a brother, Tom Patterson also of Plainview. She has a host of other relatives and many friends who respected her highly, and loved her much.

Aly Man Critically Wounded While Deer Hunting Near Chula - Earnest Potter, 25, of near Aly, was critically wounded in a deer hunting accident near Chula at about 11:30 a. m. Tuesday. Potter was hit by a 25-35 rifle bullet fired by Clint Lambert, also of near Aly. It was reported that Lambert was standing in the road shooting at a deer running through the woods and that his second shot struck Potter. Potter was in the woods about 45 yards from where Lambert was standing. There were a number of hunters in the vicinity, where dogs had been running two deer and Potter was immediately carried out to a car. Wayland Kemp of Danville brought him to Danville, where a doctor treated him, and then took him to the hospital at Russellville. Doctor there said that the bullet struck Potter in the right side toward the back and came out on the left side of the stomach. He underwent emergency surgery Tuesday afternoon and had been given 14 pints o f blood through Wednesday. Former Danville Publisher Dies - J. Carrol Pound, age 50, former publisher of the Danville Democrat, died August 21, 1951 at a Veterans Administration Hospital in Los Angeles following a long illness. He was born and raised in Danville and was the son of Mrs. Lillie Pound of Danville and the late T. L. Pound, long time publisher of the Danville Democrat. He was a veteran of World War I.
He is survived, in addition to his mother, by one son, Gene Lee Pound of Ventura, Calif. a daughter, Mrs. James Ragsdale of Richland, Calif. one brother, T. R. Pound of Danville; and three sisters, Mrs. Walter Scott Murphy Jr. of Houston, Texas, Nellie Pound of Danville and Mrs. Olen Thomas of North Little Rock. One Man Killed, Others Hurt by Run-Away Horse at Races -- Felix Powers, age 79, of Moss Creek, was killed almost instantly and several others spectators injured when a horse bolted the track and ran into the crowd at the races in Danville Wednesday afternoon. Mr. Powers was knocked down and stepped on by the horse and died before reaching the hospital. Wanell Miller of Danville, age 14 and Bud Davis of Waveland, were knocked down but apparently received only minor bruises. Ed Vestal, the rider of the horse, was thrown over the horse's head but was not injured seriously.
Mr. Powers is survived by his wife, who has been living in Oklahoma; by two sons, Asbury of Danville and Russell of Pontiac, Mich.; one daughter, Mrs. Earl Baker of Pontiac, Mich.; one brother W .T. Powers of Moss Greek; and eight grandchildren.
