William A. Chester, 85, died unexpectedly in his home at Kingston, Thursday, April 9. He was a retired business man and member of the Baptist Church. Mr. Chester was a native of Mississippi.
Surviving relatives include his widow; a daughter, Mrs. Therest Plarigan, Oklahoma City; three sons, Tommy Chester of Missouri, Hodge and Alva Chester of California.

Oliver E. Childers was born in Ripley, Miss. February 27, 1877 and died November 13, 1950 in Texas. He spent most of his life around Gilkey, Plainview and Ola and then moved to Houston, Texas where his daughter and husband lived.

William Allen Childress was born February 27, 1873 in Mississippi and moved to Yell County in 1880 and to Belleville 1899 where he lived until his death January 6, 1955. He was a member of the Baptist Church and Honorary member of the Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his widow, the former Alice Suggs, seven sons, Herbert of Haskell, Okla, Guy, Dallas, TX, Edwin, Colorado Springs, Colo., Henry, Belleville, John, San Bernardino, Calif. Neil, Detroit, Mich, and Warren A. Benton; one daughter, Mrs. G. H. Reilly, Hayward, Calif 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Harvey A. Clack, age 63, of near Havana, died at a Veterans Hospital in Little Rock Sunday, January 17. He was a retired U. S. Engineers employee, a veteran of World War I, member of the Magazine American Legion and a member of the Methodist Church.

Isaac Cecil Clack, died Sunday night, May 22, 1949 at a Bakersfield, Calif. Hospital. He was a former resident of Yell County and had lived in Delano, Calif. for 12 years.

Arnold Clark, age 39 years passed away Saturday night, October 2, 1954 at his home in Russellville of a heart attack. He was born in Centerville, Yell County, on August 8, 1915. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Clark of Centerville. He was a veteran of World War II and a telephone lineman.
He is survived by his wife, the former Emmagene McKenzie; three daughters, Mary Elizabeth, Dorothy Evelyn and Debra; three sons, William, Robert and Tommy; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Clark of Centerville; and two sisters Mrs. Leroy Kinser of Harman, and Mrs. James McKenzie of Richmond, Calif. James Kenneth Clark, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Clark of Earlimart, Calif. was killed when he fell down a bank in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California. He was trying to save his younger brother, Clyde Wayne, who had fallen. He was take to a hospital but he never regained consciousness. He lived twenty six hours after he fell.
Surviving relatives include his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Clark of Ft. Smith Mrs. Etta Smith Earlimart, Calif. one brother, Clyde Wayne, and two sisters Barbara Carol and Mary Rebecca of the home. Mrs. Henry Clark, age 80, died Friday at the home of her son, Herbert Clark, in Little Rock. She was a native of Chickalah, and was formerly Miss Rosie Bernard, a daughter of the late William and Lucinda Dacus Bernard. She had lived most of her life in Centerville. She was a member of the Church of Christ at Centerville.
Besides her son, Mrs. Clark is survived by a half brother, Ray Barnard of Harrison; five half sisters, Mrs. Lester Parker and Mrs. Rodney Blevins, of Russellville, Mrs. H. S. Smith of Tushka, Okla. Mrs. Hugh Kendrick of Pottsville and Miss Leighton Bernard of Camarella, Calif. three grand children and six great grandchildren. Patrick Clark, age 77, died at his home at Blue Mountain, Wednesday, January 7, 1948. A native of West Virginia, Mr. Clark was formerly Rock Island Lines agent at Danville. He had lived at Blue Mountain since 1910.

George Velpo Claud, age 53, died Sunday, August 15, 1948 in St. Mary's Hospital, Russellville, AR.
Services were held in the Belleville Methodist church at 3:00 p. m. Monday August 16th. The Rev. Billy Dennis, pastor of the Church at Belleville, assisted by the Rev. Charles Finch of Booneville delivered the messages. Velpo had been a member of the Methodist Church since a young man. He was a Veteran of World War I and saw active duty in France.
He is survived by his widow, Stella, a son, Norman of Los Angeles, California; a daughter, Norma Leigh, of the home; three brothers, Herman of Belleville; Rev. I. L. of Booneville; and Ewing of Los Angeles, Calif. besides a host of relatives and friends. Burial was in Russell Cemetery by Gardner Funeral Home of Russellville. Dr. Charles Clement, age 74, outstanding physician of Yell County and a native of Rover, died Thursday night in the St. Mary's Hospital in Russellville. A son of early settlers, William A. and Carolyne McCall Clement, he was born at Rover and began his career as a physician in 1896, following his graduation from Vanderbilt Medical College, Nashville, Tenn. He was married to Miss Ada Bell Fry at Rover in 1901. Mrs. Clement survives him. He was a member of the Methodist Church at Rover, a Mason and was a member of the Armita Grotto in Ft. Smith.
Besides his widow, he is survived by three sons, Charles Baxter Clement, an original Wonder Boy at Arkansas Tech, now of Knoxville, Tenn., William John Clement, Dardanelle and Marc Ray Clement, Tuscaloosa, Ala.; one daughter, Mrs. Holly Johnson of Abertville, Ala.; one brother, Oscar Clement of Springfield, Ore.; and four grandchildren. O. L. Clement, 89, of Eugene, Oregon, died last week at his home. He moved to Fourche Valley at an early age, living at Gravelly, Bluffton and Rover. He attended school at Rover and Belleville, also at Hendrix College at Conway. He worked in banks at Dardanelle, Ola and Danville; was a member of the Legislature for Yell County, was a member of the constitutional convention, assistant county clerk, school superintendent and surveyor while in Yell County. He was first married to Ada McCarrell of Danville; and later to Vinia Littlejohn, a sister of the late Mrs. John Chambers Sr.

Omer D. Clement, age 39, died Tuesday morning at the Danville Clinic following a short illness. Mr. Clement had arrived here Friday night from Tipton, Calif. to visit relatives, and was ill upon his arrival.
He is survived by his wife and two daughters in California; three sisters, Mrs. John Garner of Pine Bluff, Mrs. Paul Sanders and Hattie Clement of Danville and his mother, Mrs. Laura Clement of Danville.

Edward Cline, age 84, a retired farmer of Rover, died May 18, 1958 at his home. He was a Baptist and a native of Jefferson City.
He is survived by three sons, Arthur and Ralph Cline of Farmersville, Calif, and James Cline of Rover; two daughters, Mrs. Edith Marshall of Rover, and Minnie Wahla of Pollock Pines, Calif; a brother, Walter Cline of Plainview and a step brother, Charlie Cline of Oklahoma.

Funeral services for Mrs. Delphia Cloninger were held at the Havana Church of Christ on Friday, January 31, at 2:30 p. m. with Elder Lucian Farrar, of Russellville and Jule Miller of Searcy, officiating. Mr. Miller a grandson of Mrs. Cloninger by marriage.
Mrs. Cloninger had been ill at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ardelle Allen Gray, for several months. The family moved from Danville to Russellville last July. In addition to Mrs. Gray, she is survived by three other daughters, Mrs. Mildred Heihn of Little Rock, Mrs. Vivian Morgan of Norfolk, Va. and Mrs. Bonnie Faulk of Kenset, one son, Robert Allen of Oklahoma City, Okla.; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. M. B. Lucas of Havana, a brother, John Parker, of Blue Mountain, and two step-sons, H. G. Cloninger, of Beebe, Ark and Walter Cloninger, of Clarksville. William "Bill" Cockman, born September 4, 1868 and died at his home at Mt. Valley, Ark. May 14, 1951. He was married to Miss Mattie Ladd and to this union nine children were born of which eight survive.

Horace C. Cole was born January 4th, 1882 at Chickalah, AR and passed away at the State hospital in Little Rock on Friday July 22, 1949 and has spent most of his life in Yell County. He joined the Christian Church at Havana in his young days. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
He was married to Lillie Brooke on October 30, 1910 at Plainview. To this union five children were born of which two survive, Dick Cole of Boinis, and Ruby Cole of the home. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Lillie Cole; three brothers, Guy Cole of Greenwood, Homer Cole, Bishop, Ca., Bob Cole, Mexico; two sisters Miss Ninnie Cole, Magazine, Mrs. Ida Runyans of Hatch, New Mexico; one grandson, James Cole of Bionis, Texas; and a number of friends to mourn his passing.

Fred Colvard, age 70, owner of the photo studio in Danville died of a heart attack last Thursday, June 12, 1947. Mr. Colvard became ill around noon and died at 2:45.

Mrs. Jap Caviness Compton - Funeral services were conducted in the Methodist Church in Danville at 2 p. m. Saturday for Mrs. Jap Caviness Compton, 57, wife of Buford Compton, former Yell County Sheriff and Collector. Burial was in the family cemetery in Briggsville with Cornwell Funeral Home in charge.
Mrs. Compton died in a Little Rock hospital last Thursday after a long illness. She had been active in state and county affairs and a former member of the Democratic Central Committee and was county president of the Democratic Women. She was president of Danville and Fourche Valley P. T. A., President of the Women's Christian Service Society of the Danville Methodist Church, chairman of the Yell County Tuberculosis Association, and a steward in the Methodist Church at Wing. She is a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Mrs. D. N. Keathley, Wing and Mrs. C. R. George, Danville; her parents Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Caviness, Danville; four sisters, Mrs. D. B. White, Silver City, N. M. Mrs. Robert J. Compton, Phoenix, Mrs. Charles Nixon, Gary, Ind. and Mrs. Blakeley Gallagher, Hot Springs; a brother, Clyde Caviness, Danville and three grandchildren. Col. Connaughton Killed In Action- Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Connaughton of Paris were notified Wednesday morning their son, Lieut. Col. George C. Connaughton, 44 years old, was killed in action November 30, 1950 in Korea. Connaughton was born and reared in Paris, graduated from Paris high school, and was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic church. Lieutenant Colonel Connaughton, a member of the First Cavalry division of the Eighth Army, had been in the army 15 years. He left Japan August 1, for Korea with Maj. Gen. Lawton Walker.
He is survived by his wife of Little Rock; one daughter, Mary Ann, a student at St. Scholastica's academy in Fort Smith; one brother, Mike of Danville; and five sisters, Mrs. Reynolds Maus and Mrs. O. B. Carter of Paris, Mrs. Frank Limbird of Scranton, Mrs. Tony Jasper of Fort Smith and Mrs. Jay Kirschoos of Paragould. Ola Man Found Dead In Home - Claud C. Cook, 74, was found dead in his home at Ola on Monday afternoon. He had apparently been dead for less than 24 hours. Cook, who has no close relatives, had not been seen around Ola since last Thursday. When he failed to bring his laundry to Mrs. Ervin Davis on Monday, she had Mr. Davis go to Cook's home to see if anything was wrong. Davis was accompanied by Major John White. They found Cook's body on the floor under his bed. Chairs were overturned and the room was in disorder. Sheriff Earl Ladd and Deputy Prosecuting Attorney C. R. George investigated and impaneled a coroner s jury, who returned a verdict of death due to unknown causes. Examination at Cornwell Funeral Home revealed no cuts or bruises or other evidence of foul play on the body and officers assumed that he died of a heart attack. O. P. Cook, 75, of Ola died Thursday in St. Edward's Hospital in Ft. Smith.
Survivors are his widow, two sons, Harold Cook, Fayetteville, and Robert Cook, Rainier, Ore.; four daughters, Mrs. Valeria Sparks, Longview, Wash., Mrs. Clara Gateley and Mrs. Georgia Root, Baton Rouge, La. and Mrs. Lola Halter, Ola. Clarence Cleveland Cooper, age 43, died November 26, 1959 at his home in Eureka, Calif. following a brief illness. He was born at Havana in Yell County and had lived in California the past 20 years. He had been employed as a tally man for the Pacific Lumber Col. of Eureka and was a member of the Fortuna Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby; three sons, Clarence, Theodore and David, all of the home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Cooper of Atoka, Okla.; one brother, Bob Cooper of Durant, Okla.; two sisters, Mrs. Foye Kilmer of Zuni, N. Mex. and Mrs. Ether Hardin of Siloam Springs. Andy Johnson Copeland who was born May 15, 1893 in Belleville, departed this life at his home in Oxnard, Calif. He owned and operated a garage in Belleville before going to California and has a host of friends in Yell County.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. May Copeland; two sons, Andy Jr. of Ventura and Lamar of Oxnard; his mother, Mrs. Ruth Copeland of Belleville; one brother, George Copeland of Atwater, Calif.; four sisters, Bennie Jean and Stella Tygart of Belleville, Mrs. Bob Rogers and Mrs. Will Rogers of Henryetta, Okla. and three grand children. Mrs. Ruth Copeland, 94, died at her home at Belleville Monday. A native of Georgia, she moved to Arkansas in 1873. She was the widow of Sylvanus C. Copeland and the last surviving charter member of the First Baptist Church at Belleville.
She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Bonnie Jean of the home, Mrs. Stella Tygart of Belleville and Mrs. Gertrude Rogers and Mrs. Della Rogers of Henrietta, Okla.; a son George H. Mrs. Julie Corley was born January 3, 1883 and was married to Burl Corley on December 5, 1909. She went to her reward in Heaven March 23, 1949.
She is survived by her husband, Burl Corley, two brothers; Thomas Walter of Cedar Creek and Omar Waters of California; two sisters, Mrs. Ezra Martin of Missouri and Mrs. J. H. McGugan of Belleville.

Roy Bryan Cornelius, age 59, a restaurant owner and businessman of Russellville, died Saturday at his home. Mr. Cornelius, a native of Scott County, owned the Old South Restaurant and Vess Cola Bottling Company. He was a Mason and a Methodist. He lived at Plainview before moving to Russellville years ago.

Lloyd R. Cornwell, age 38, of Dardanelle and owner of the Cornwell Funeral Home died at St. Mary's Hospital in Russellville last night at 11:45 p. m. after an extended illness. Mr. Cornwell was a life-lone resident of Dardanelle. He was county coroner and had been nominated for re-election in Tuesday's primary.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Violet Cornwell; two sons, Sammy Lloyd, Michael Rush and a daughter, Carrol; a sister, Mrs. Reba Phillips; four brothers, Lamont, Gilroy, Gilbert and Ray; and his mother, all of Dardanelle. Man Found Dead In Hotel Room - Daniel Cosgrove, 77, was found dead in his room at the Danville Hotel last Thursday afternoon. A coroner's jury ruled that he had died of natural causes, apparently of a heart attack. He had lived in the hotel since March 1959. He was a former Boonville, MO. Former Resident Killed in California - Leon Couch, former, resident of Macedonia in Yell County was killed in a auto accident near Ouincy, Calif. on November 6, 1948. His car crashed into another car and plunged into the Feau River. A witness to the accident recovered his body and worked about two hours trying to revive him. An autopsy revealed he died of injuries suffered in the crash.
He is survived by his wife, Pat; three sons, Leonnie, Charles and Billie; his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. John Couch; two sisters, Miss Robbie Couch and Mrs. Elene Mebring; and two brothers, Bobbie and Leo, all of California and former residents of Yell County.

Mrs. Cora Smith Cowger, age 82, wife of Charlie Cowger of Chickalah, died Monday at her home. She was a Methodist and a native of Dardanelle.
Survivors include four sons, Neil, Paul and J. B. Cowger of Chickalah and Stanley Cowger of Kansas City; five daughters, Mrs. Earl Darr of Atkins, Mrs. Thomas Cotton of Dardanelle, Mrs. Fred Hargis of Springfield, Mo. and Mrs. John Ward and Mrs. H. James Ira Cowger, 79, civic leader, pharmacist and farmer, who formerly was a teacher and at one time Yell County School Supervisor, died at the clinic here Saturday. After he left the teaching profession, he was in the mercantile business in Gravelly before moving to Danville in 1920. Soon afterwards he opened the Cowger Drug Store. He was a deacon in Danville Baptist Church and a Sunday school teacher.
In addition to his widow, Mrs. Ophelia Cowger of Danville, he is survived by three sons, Cleo of Danville, J. I. Jr. of Abilene, Texas, and E. L. of Fabens, Texas; four daughters, Mrs. R. C. Parks of Belleville, Miss Vivian Cowger of Danville, Mrs. Roy McNeal of Nimrod and Mrs. R. B. Mills of North Little Rock; a brother, Will of Wyandotte, Mich. and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Jane Hudson of Ft. Smith, Mrs. Fronia Tinsley and Mrs. Lydia Smith of Paris.

Mrs. Robert P. Cowger, aged 72, widow of Dr. Robert P. Cowger, died here Sunday, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Robert Begoon. Mrs. Cowger was a native of Chickalah and moved to Danville in 1904. She was a member of the Older of the Eastern Star and was a Baptist.
She is survived by four sons, Aubrey Cowger of Danville, Robert Cowger of Carlsbad, New Mexico, Dan Cowger of Anaheim, Calif. and Charles Cowger of El Dorado; three other daughters, Mrs. W. G. Hart of Tulsa, Mrs. W. Hancock of Sunray, Texas and Mrs. Janie Eckhart of Pampa, Tex.; three half brothers, B. H. Burnett of Russellville, Robert Burnett of Dallas and R. L.
