The conductor contacted Dr. Kent Grace from the Havana station, who met the train in Danville about 3 a.m. and removed the body. Examination of personal effects, including three billfolds, an accident insurance policy purchased with his ticket in San Pedro, February 27, 1947, two letters he had not mailed and a note containing two dollars and an address attached to his suitcase, indicated he was probably going to see his brother-in-law of Roling Fork, Miss., or his brother in Belzoni, Miss. Contents of the two letters indicated that Campbell's mind was deranged - he repeated over and over that the unions were spying on him, everybody was spying on him. Bruce Carmichael - Dead Man Found Near Waveland-The body of an unidentified man, about 50 years of age, was found near the railroad tracks three fourths of a mile west of Waveland yesterday morning around 7 a. m. The body was badly mangled, with both legs and one arm cut off.

The man had no billfold or identification papers and no teeth. He had apparently been dressed in an Arrow shirt and good dress pants. A laundry label on one pocket read M. Duncan. Another label on his underwear read CP19 or CR18. He had brown eyes and dark hair and was apparently of average height and build. A coroner's jury returned a verdict of accidental death caused by a train. Sheriff Earl Ladd, who has been investigating the accident, reported this morning that evidence indicated the man was a hobo who had been riding a west bound freight train. A brakeman on train 193, which arrives in Booneville at 2:25 a. m. told the sheriff there was one hobo on his train and described the man whose body was found fairly close. A brakeman on the east bound freight train which passed train 193 at Belleville said he saw a man standing on a flatcar. The engineer of the Rocket which was 23 minutes behind train 193, told Sheriff Ladd he saw something at the side of the tracks about where the body was found, but had not recognized it as a man. The man apparently fell from the flat car and was run over and dragged to his death.

14 Year Old Boy On School Outing Drowns At Spring Lake - A 14 year old boy drowned in Spring Lake Wednesday, afternoon while on a school outing. A coroner s jury, made of 16 men empanelled by Coroner Glenn Bailey, last night returned a verdict of death at about 4:30 p. m. by reason of accidental drowning. The victim, Tom Chastain, was one of 24 boys on an outing from County Line School with their sponsor, Bennie Rausch, agriculture instructor. Rausch said that the boy had not planned on swimming and had not brought a suit with him. He said that he counted the boys who were supposed to swim and counted them a number of times, including when they got out. Several of the boys said they knew that Tom rented a bathing suit and had seen him diving off a pier. They did not believe that he was able to swim. He was not missed until the boys prepared to eat and make camp. His body was found about 6:40 p. m. in water about 10 feet deep and about midway between the two piers in the swimming area. Charles Ray of Russellville recovered the body about 10 minutes after the search for the body was started. Ray, who had a first class swimmer rating in the Army, said he did not attempt artificial respiration because he could tell that the boy had been in the water too long. The boy s parents are Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Chastain of Branch. (YELL COUNTY RECORD. 50 Years Ago, Danville, Arkansas - Originally published on Thursday, May 14, 1959)
