Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p. m. in the new Cornwell Funeral Chapel for John A. Person, age 74, who died Friday, February 2, 1962 in the Yell County Hospital at Danville. Rev. Jim Short and Rev. Omer Stanfield officiated. Mr. Person was a retiree farmer and a lifelong resident of Yell County, a native of Van Buren County and an officer of Bright Star Lodge #213.
Survivors are James and Clarence Person of Dardanelle, Ray Person of Chicago, four daughters, Lola Cooper and Orra Ragsdale of Dardanelle and Lucille Tucker of Los Altos, California and Johnie Mae Ferris of Tulsa, Oklahoma, two brothers, Herbert Person of Wing and Joe Person of Hayti, Missouri, one sister, Mrs. Adelaide Hignight of Wing, 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Burial with Masonic rites was in Brearley cemetery. Pallbearers were Bentley Blevins, W. H. McClure, Jr., Owen McDorlough, Lonnie Thompson, Anderson Ragsdale and Jack Parker. This was the first funeral held in the new funeral chapel February 4, 1962. Mr. Person had spent many hours observing the construction of the new chapel and expressed a desire to live until it was finished that his funeral might be held there. Mrs. Bertha Phillips, age 81, of Plainview, died Monday, September 21, 1987 in Pinedale Nursing Home at Newport. She was born September 13, 1906 in Punkin Town near Briggsville.
She was preceded in death by her husband George Phillips and two sons, Bill and John Phillips. She was a retired employee of Rose's Nursing Home in Mena.
Survivors include a daughter, Marilee Williams of Tupelo, AH; two daughters-in-law, Johnna Phillips of Plainview and Ruby Phillips of El Dorado; one sister, Lenora Hurt of Plainview; one sister-in-law, Dovie Blankenship of Rover; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Graveside services were held. September 23 at New Bethel Cemetery with Rev. Monroe Hunt officiating. Funeral arrangements are in care of Dixon Funeral Home of Danville.

Edward Leon Phillips, age 69, died in the University of Michigan Medical Center April 25, 1990. He was born and raised in Yell County, Arkansas, son of the late Minnie and Asqual Phillips.
Survivors are two sons, Alvin and Ronnie; two daughters, Peggy and Janet; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews all of Michigan; two brothers, Richard of South Bend, IN and A. L. Phillips, Jr. of Utica, MI; three sisters, Agnes Gazzola of Conyears, GA, Anna L. Barger of Pontiac, MI and Audrey Madden of Danville.

John Frank Phillips, age 51, of Plainview died October 14. He was a native of Plainview and the son of the late George W Phillips and Mrs. Bertha Blankenship Phillips of Plainview. He was a disabled Veteran of the Navy.
Survivors include his wife, Johnna Terrill Phillips; one daughter, Mrs. Linda Marie Phillips, both of the home; one sister Mrs. Mary Williams of Tupelo; his mother, Mrs. Bertha Phillips of Plainview.
Funeral services were held Monday at the Cornell Funeral Chapel in Danville with Rev. Royce Savage officiating and burial was in the New Bethel Cemetery near Danville by Cornwell Funeral Services. Mrs. Clementine Pickering, age 69, of Briggsville, AR died Wednesday, May 11, 1994 at Chambers Memorial Hospital in Danville. She was born June 19, 1924 in Briggsville to the late Herbert and Neva Cathey Castleberry. She was retired from Boeing Aircraft Company.
Survivors include one brother, -Dennis Castleberry of Briggsville; two sisters, Betty Jackson of Wichita, KS and Imogene Hunt off Briggsville; several nieces and nephews.

Berniece Burruss Pool died at the Guadalupe Medical Center in Carlsbad, New Mexico September 15. She was born August 15, 1920 at Rover and was raised in that community. She attended Rover and Plainview School and was graduated from Danville High School and also attended New Mexico State University.
She is survived by her husband, Edward Pool of Carlsbad; two daughters, Mrs. Nina Johnston of Midland, TX and Mrs. Edwina Bishop of Fritch, Texas; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church and a charter member of the Order of the Does Lodge in Carlsbad until her illness several months ago.

James R Pool, age 62, passed away on July 17, 1991, at the V. A. Hospital in Alexandria, Louisiana.
He is survived by three sisters. Helen Negri, Hemet CA, Anna Sanders, Cathedral City, CA and Phyllis Fair, Carlsbad, NM; and one brother, G. W. Pool, of Monterey Park CA. James was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Dick Pool of Danville.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Danville. He spent six years in the U. S. Navy aboard the battleship John S. Boles during the Korean War and saw combat on both land and sea.

DANVILLE - James R. Pool, age 52, of Harrisonburg, La. formerly of Danville, died Wednesday. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and a Baptist.

Joseph R. "Dick" Pool, age 94, of Danville, died Thursday, June 16, at the Yell County Nursing Home in Ola, Arkansas. He was a lifelong resident of Yell County. He was the son of the late George and Lou Johnston Pool. He was a Methodist, a retired insurance and monument salesman, and a Mason.
Survivors include two sons, G. W. Pool of Monterey Park, Ca. and James R. Pool of Little Rock; three daughters, Ann Sanders of Palm Springs, California, Helen Negri of Hemet, California, and Phyllis Fair of Carlsbad, New Mexico; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Monday, June 20, at the Cornwell Funeral Chapel in Danville, with the Rev. Bob Pool officiating. Interment was in the Old Danville Cemetery, at Danville. Mrs. Mayme Page Pool, age 91, of Danville died Thursday, February 13, 1986 at the Yell County Nursing Home in Ola. She was a native of Yell County, the daughter of Dick and Anna Page. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the United Methodist Church and the last survivor of the 1905 Sunday School of the Danville Methodist Church.
Survivors are her husband, Joseph R. (Dick) Pool of Danville; two sons, G. W. Pool of Monterey, CA and James Pool of Little Rock; three daughters, Helen Negri of Hemet, CA, Ann Sanders of Palm Springs, CA and Phyllis Fair of Carlsbad, N. M.; one sister, Hazel Anticouni of Seal Beach, CA; 13 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 15 at Cornwell Funeral Chapel in Danville with Rev. Bob Pool (grandson) and Mike Morey officiating. Burial was in the Old Danville Cemetery. Memorial services for William Ervie Poole, age 62, were held Friday. Sept. 14, 2007, in the Church of Christ in Lubbock. Officiating was George Hogland.
Mr. Poole died Sept. 12, 2007 in Lubbock. Born Dec 16, 1944 in Wheeler to Ervic and Eula (Boatman) Poole, he moved to Sunray in 1948. He graduated from Sunray High School in 1963 He received a BS degree in computer engineering from Texas Tech in 1996. He moved to Lubbock from Panama City, Fla in 1989. He married Mary L. Hunt in Paris. Tex. on Oct 23. 1987. He was retired from the Air Force. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; a son, Daynon Wayne Poole and his father-in-law, George Hunt.
Survivors include his wife Mary, of the home, two daughters, Elsie and Vern Steffey of Swink, OK, and Shayla Duncan of Cleveland, two sons, Brett and Jessica Poole of Lubbock and Dustin Duncan of Lubbock; his mother-in-law, Elsie Hun of Valliant, Okla.; three brothers, Kenneth and Debbie Poole of Clear Lake, Calif., Howard Poole and Roger Poole, both of Lubbock: a sister-in-law, JoAnn and Troy Gabehart of Dumas, Nephews, nieces and cousins, and three grandchildren.

Graveside funeral service for Joseph A. Posey, 97, was held Wednesday at 2:30 p. m. at the Chant cemetery at Y City with Rev. J. W. Caldwell officiating. Mr. Posey died at his home at Bluffton Sunday afternoon.

Billy Theodore "Rip" Potter, Jr. age 27 of Plainview, AR died Friday, July 7, 1995 at Chambers Memorial Hospital. He was born November 11, 1967 in Danville, AR. He was the Ranch Foreman at the Wayne Smith Ranch in Plainview.
Survivors include his wife, Sheila Barnett Potter; two sons, Colton Potter and Casey Potter both of the home; three sisters, Kelly Millwood of London, LeNita Denney of New Orleans and Stacy Potter of Rover; his father, Billy Potter, Sr. of Kingston; his mother, Rita Eden of Rover; his maternal grandmother, Mary Charmasson of Pottsville; his paternal grandparents, Verlon and Everlee Potter of Kingston.

Earl Lester Potter, age 79, of Bluffton, AR died Wednesday, August 31, 1988 at his home in Bluffton. He was a native of Aly, AR, son of the late W. R. and Lillar Gabbard Potter, a member of the Methodist Church and a Mason.

Potter and Joe Pat Potter both of Houston, TX; five daughters, Eddie Gamble of Cleveland, TX, Shirley Harrison and Mary Tousek both of Texas, Virginia Ely of Russellville and Peggy Caldwell of South Carolina; four brothers, Ivory Potter and Doyce Potter both of Bluffton, Verlon Potter of Plainview and Vertie Potter of Dumas, AR; two sister, Hazel Lazenby of Plainview and Ina Teller of Fort Smith; a number of grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Ernest Cleo Potter, age 25 of Aly died Saturday, December 18th, at a Russellville Hospital. He was a member of Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Potter.

Thursday, August 23, 1951 Former Danville Publisher Dies - J. Carrol Pound, age 50, former publisher of the Danville Democrat, died August 21 at a Veterans Administration Hospital in Los Angeles following a long illness. He was born and raised in Danville and was the son of Mrs. Lillie Pound of Danville and the late T. L. Pound, long time publisher of the Danville Democrat. He was a veteran of World War I.
He is survived, in addition to his mother, by one son, Gene Lee Pound of Ventura, Calif; a daughter, Mrs. James Ragsdale of Richland, Calif; one brother, T. R. Pound of Danville; and three sisters, Mrs. Walter. Scott Murphy Jr. of Houston, Texas, Nellie Pound of Danville and. Mrs. Olen Thomas of North Little Rock. Mrs. Carolyn Tippy Prewett, aged 51, of Little Rock, a retired secretary for an insurance company, died Wednesday. (Jan 13, 1984) She was born at Plainview, daughter of the late William Miles and Leone Rice Tippy, and was a member of Olivet Baptist Church.
Survivors are three sons, Richard Prewett of Little Rock, Michael Prewett, who is stationed with the Navy in Italy, and James Prewett of Bermuda; a daughter, Vicky Prewett of Little Rock; a brother, Richard Tippy of Monroeville, Ala.; a sister, Dorothy T. Tuttle of Little Rock, and four grandchildren.

Cleo G. Pugh Prince, 89 of Little Rock, passed away on Friday, December 5, 2008. "MeMe" was a dedicated and loving military wife whose faith and strength in family gave way to raising two wonderful children, a brother, and grandson. She accepted everyone as part of "her family". She was the best "Meems" in the world to everyone. She was a member of Gardner Memorial United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Princie and Ed Parkhill of North Little Rock; a brother and sister-in-law, W. T. and Ruby Pugh of Rover, Arkansas; two sisters, Jeannie Briley and her husband Joe of Kerrville, Texas, and Ina Green of Washington; sister-in-law, Mary Pugh of Russellville; daughter-in-law, Pat Prince of Little Rock; three grandchildren, Scott and wife GiGi Parkhill and Medra Parkhill of North Little Rock, and Nicholas Prince of Little Rock; two great-grandchildren, Graham and Zachary Parkhill of North Little Rock; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sgt. Major L. M. Mrs. Ethel Marie Pulwers, age 58, of Arlington Virginia, formerly of Yell County, died Monday, November 16th in Arlington. She was a native of Fort Smith, daughter of the late Charles Alvin Owens, a mother and a homemaker and was the daughter of Mrs. Ruby Bonner Owens who lives in Danville, Ark.
Survivors include besides her mother; two sons, Jack E. Pulwers and Davie Pulwers both of Arlington, Virginia; two daughters, Abbe Pulwers of Minnesota and Anne B. Pulwers of Arlington, Virginia; two brothers, Thomas Harold Owens of Fort Smith, Ark. and James Owens of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one sister, Charlene Wenzel of Florida.

Mr. Boyd Qualls, age 69 of Story, AR died at St. Joseph's Regional Health Center, Hot Springs, AR on Tuesday, December 10, 1996. He was born December 15, 1927, the son of the late Orville Qualls and Lura Lamb Qualls. He was united in marriage to Beatrice Lambert Qualls March 7, 1975. He was a lifelong resident of Montgomery County, retired from U. S. Forest Service, an employee of Ozark Cedar, a Veteran of the Korean War and a member and deacon of Refuge Baptist Church at Story.
Survivors are wife, Beatrice Qualls of Story; two sons, Timmy and Teddy of Story; one daughter, Tammy Qualls Hutt of Russellville; three grandchildren, Jay Cassandra and Miranda; three brothers, Cleo Qualls and Laintus Qualls both of Sims, AR and Windell Qualls of Oklahoma City, OK; four sisters, Rutha Porter of Aly, AR, Geraldine Pendergrass of Farmersville, CA, Ellastene Spurting of Oden, AR and Jenett Godwin of Story, AR.

Mrs. Alverda Ann Rabjohn, 94, died Saturday evening at her home in Mt. Pine. A native of Eureka Springs, Mrs. Rabjohn had lived in Mt. Pine for the past seven years.
Survivors include two sons, Loyd Rabjohn of Hot Springs; and Bud Rabjohn of Mt. Pine; a daughter, Mrs. Letha Elliott of Royal; a sister, Mrs. Mattie Sledge of Mercedes, Tex. four grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

Mrs. Audrey Rabjohn, age 85, of Mountain Pine, died Wednesday, March 25, 1987 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Hot Springs. A daughter of the late Henry and Robert Ann Lawrence Cathey, she was born in Yell County Arkansas. She was a Baptist.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Fern Ingle of Mountain Pine and Mrs. Patsy Ann Gatliff of Austin, TX; one sister, Mrs. Jessie Anderson of Rover; and six grandchildren.

Erie F. Rabjohn, age 93, of Hot Springs, died Monday, September 1, 1986 at the V. A. Hospital in Little Rock. He was a native of Aly, the son of the late George R. and Cathrine Cagle Rabjohn, a retired farmer and a veteran of WWI.
He is survived by one daughter Dorothy Lois Rabjohn of Hot Springs.

ROSBORO - Gilbert "Gil" Rabjohn, age 59, of Portland, Ore. formerly of Rosboro (Clark County), a pharmacist, died Friday. He was a Lutheran, a Korean War Navy veteran and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

PORTLAND, ORE. - Gilbert "Gil" L. Rabjohn, age 59, of Portland, Ore. a pharmacist at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Roseburg,. for 21 years and other Veterans Administration facilities for 11 years, died Friday. Rabjohn was a Navy veteran of the Korean War a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Oregon State Pharmacy Association, Roseburg Country Club, Ashland Elks Lodge, and Faith Lutheran Church, all in Oregon.
Graveside service will be at 2 p. m. Wednesday at Bethel Cemetery, Glenwood. Memorials may be made to Gilbert Rabjohn Memorial Fund for Community Service, c/o Sotath Umpqua State Bank

SCOTT Homer Dee Rabjohn, age 69, of Scott died December 28, 1995. He was a retired Otasco store manager and a Navy World War II veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Ollie Mae Rabjohn of Scott; three daughters, Rita; Fincher of Helena, Deborah Dee Songer of Little Rock and Donna Lee Denton of Sherwood; three grandchildren, Floyd Harold Fincher III, Michael Dee Songer and Jason Nutt; one great-grandchild, Alexandria Morgan Songer.

Memory Card - Loyd Rabjohn, age 89, a resident of Dardanelle, died Friday, April 26, 2002, at the Dardanelle Hospital.
He was born March 20, 1913, at Rover, Arkansas, a son of the late E. L. "Tobe" and Alverda "Mammy" Armstrong Rabjohn.
He was retired from the Deltic Timber Company in Ola where he worked as a lumber inspector and grader. He was a member of the Mountain Pine Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Modean Cox Rabjohn; 2 brothers, Gary "Bud" Rabjohn and Charlie Rabjohn; and 2 sisters, Gertrude Barnes and Leatha Elliott. He is survived by a son, Laudell Rabjohn of Dardanelle; and other relatives and friends.
Graveside service and burial will be 2 P. M. Tuesday, April 30, 2002, at the Bluffton Cemetery at Bluffton with Reverend Joe Yates officiating. Visitation will be open from 11 A. M. - 9 P. M. Monday, April 29, 2002, at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.

A daughter of the late George Esrom and Charlcie May Douthit Cox, she was born April 23, 1918, at Nola, Arkansas (in Scott County).
She was the wife of Loyd Rabjohn, to whom she had been married since October 10, 1936, and was a member of the Mountain Pine Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Cox; and three sisters, Cletha Herrin, Louretha Allred and Carmen Alphin.
Survivors also include a son, Laudell Rabjohn of Dardanelle.
The graveside service and burial will be 2 P. M. Thursday, January 7, 1999, at the Bluffton Cemetery, with Rev. Joe Yates officiating. Arrangements are by Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.

Rufus Randolph Reddin, age 70, of Danville, died Sunday, November 22 at St. Vincent Hospital in Little Rock. Mr. Reddin was a native of Banks, AR. The Son of the late Rev. A. D. Reddin and Bessie Briley Reddin. He is a retired from Arkansas Power and Light Co. having worked for AP&L for 35 years. Reddin was a member of the Danville Assembly of God Church and had served on the Beard of Deacons of that Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Faye Madden Reddin; three sons, Rev Ron Reddin of Sherwood Bradley T. Reddin & Shon A. Reddin both of Danville; 7 brothers, Martin Looney and Mrs. Teresa Hopkins both of Danville; seven brothers, Martin Reddin of Banks, Harold Reddin of Texas, Harvey Reddin of Camden, Douglas Reddin of Louisiana, Lyrad Reddin of London, England, Briley R. Carl Reed, age 77 of Plainview, died early Monday, July 1, 1991, at his home. He was a native of Steve, AR, the son of the late James and Mary Brannom Reed. He was a retired truck driver and a Mason.

Hanes Edward Reed, age 60. of Cleveland, Okla. was killed in a car accident December 20, 1957 in Cleveland. He was born in Belleville and lived in Yell County until 1937. He was married to the former Maude Walker of Belleville.

Reverend Jesse S. Reed, age 88, of Little Rock died Thursday, January 8, 2004. A native of Aly, Yell County, Ark. where he was one of 11 children born to J. M. and Hattie Reed. Reverend Reed graduated from Dumas (Arkansas) High School and Ouachita Baptist College before receiving his theological education in 1945 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. Brother Reed's pastorates included First Baptist Church, Wylie, Texas, and the following churches in Arkansas Perla, Cedar Glades, Buckville, Story, Harvey's Chapel near Hot Springs, Park Place, Hot Springs and Second Church, El Dorado. In 1954, Reverend Reed became the state evangelist for the Arkansas Baptist State Convention. During his nearly seven years as State evangelist, working largely with smaller, more rural churches, Reed preached approximately 2, 600 times; and welcomed 1, 565 persons who publicly accepted Christ as Savior. Jesse was an "outdoor" person, and his interests included hunting (with his lifelong friends, grandsons, and "squirrel dogs") fishing, bee-keeping and gardening -which allowed him to supply family and friends with an abundant supply of fresh fruits and vegetables. In 1983, he wrote and published First Fruits, a book dedicated to spreading the word of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Imogene Lacy Reed; two sons, Douglas Reed and his wife, Janet, of Memphis, Tenn. and David Reed and his wife, Susan, of Bennettsville, S. C.; brothers, Carl Reed of Dumas and Bill Reed of McGehee; sister, Lena Wehunt of Perry, Ga.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be 12 noon Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at Parkway Place Baptist Church in Little Rock. Interment will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Hot Springs. Undean Mobley Reed, age 86 of Dumas, Arkansas born February 18,1922 in Briggsville, Arkansas, to the late Joseph Elie Mobley and Nola Smith Mobley. Mrs. Reed passed away January 3, 2009 and was predeceased by her husband, Carl Reed and sister, Willene Armstrong.
Mrs. Reed a loving mother and homemaker, member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors are two daughters, Donnie (Robert) Robertson of Tillar, Arkansas and Betty (Buddy) Bradshaw of Benton, Arkansas, brother, J.W. Mobley of Benton, Arkansas and sister, Sarah Venable of Phoenix, Arizona, three grandchildren, Byron and Blaine Bradshaw and Chris Robertson and six great grandchildren.

Mr. Wayne H. Rhoades age 58, of Gravelly, died at his home. Mr. Rhoades was a native of Gravelly, a cattleman and farmer. He was the son of the late Charles and Annie Rhoades.
Survivors include one step son Bobby Griggs of Houston, and one step daughter Christene Evans of Houston, TX. Nine step grandchildren and 5 step great grandchildren. One brother Esley Rhoades of Bluffton, AR.

Mrs. Zula Ward Rhoades, age 66, of Gravelly, died early Tuesday morning, January 12, 1993. She was born in McCloud, OK on February 22, 1926. She was the daughter of the late Newt and Ethel Ward. She was a homemaker and a mother.
