Mr. Grady L. May, age 71, died Monday, January 10, 1994 at his home in Belleville. He was born August 4, 1922 in Bluffton, Arkansas to the late John L. and Mattie Dona Brand May. He was a retired Rock Island Rail Road employee and a member of the Upper Spring Creek Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie Taylor May; two daughters, Sandy Bottoms of Danville and Peggy Mobley of Belleville; one son, Ricky May of Belleville; two brothers, Dewel May and Othel May both of Danville; five grandchildren, Kerry and Greg Bottoms, Mitch and Lyndsey Mobley and Jeremy May.
Services will be Wednesday, January 12, 1994 at 2 p. m. at the Upper Spring Creek Free Will Baptist Church with Garland Lipe and the Rev. Paul Newton officiating. Burial will be at Upper Spring Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Laster, Kenny Jackson, Dale Knight, Henry Daman, Ronnie Spears and Bob Dixon. Leon Mayberry, age 54 of Rover, died Sunday, January 29, 1989 at McClelland Veterans Administration Hospital in Little Rock. He has served in the U. S. Navy and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Fisher-Law Post 8525.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Jo Ann Mayberry; three sons, David and Russell Mayberry both of Wing and Michael Mayberry of Nola; one daughter, Miss Stephanie Mayberry of Wing; one step-son, Wally Harkey of Kansas City, MO; his parents, William Mayberry of Wing and Mrs. Ethel Reed Mayberry of Farmersville, CA; one brother, John Mayberry of Wing; three sisters, Miss Louise Mayberry, Mrs. Iva Jean McDaniel and Mrs. Margie Cain of Farmersville, CA and eight grandchildren. A daughter preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p. m. Wednesday, Feb. 1 at Rover Baptist Church with Rev. James Johnson officiating. Interment will be in McKinney Cemetery near Mt. Ida. Mrs. Eva Edith Mayer, age 85, of Dardanelle, AR died Saturday, August 24, 1996 at the Dardanelle Nursing Center. She was a member of the Ard Church of Christ, housewife, homemaker and member of the Council Oak Extension Homemakers. She was born October 3, 1910 in Delaware, AR to the late William R. and Lilly Boothe Rollans.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Odie Mayer and one daughter, Velta Faye Mayer.
Survivors include five sons, William Mayer, Lamar, AR, Denver Mayer, Tuscaloosa, AL, James Mayer, Dardanelle, AR, O. J. Mayer, Russellville, AR and Billy Joe Mayer, Dardanelle, AR; two daughters, Sandra Cook, Jonesboro, AR and Linda Jackson, Dardanelle, AR; three sisters, Imogene Deeds, Wanda Barnett and Lilly May Peterson all of Dardanelle; 19 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Nathan McBride, age 86 last May 11, more widely and affectionately known as Scott, died at his home Jan. 4, 1938 after dropping on the sidewalk at the Wayne McBride store and having to be taken home.
Besides his wife Mr. McBride is survived by daughters Mrs. Norah Burcham, Royce, Texas; Mrs. Anna May Buttenfield, Tyler, Texas; Mrs. K. Harkey, near Belleville and Mrs. Ola Greenlee, of near Havana and sons, Homer and Audice, Havana and E. L. McBride, Waveland.
The services were in the Assembly of God church, with its pastor, Rev. Mr. Justice, in charge, assisted by Rev. C. J. Wade, pastor of Methodist church, Belleville and Rev. Mr. W. E. Huey, pastor of the Havana Presbyterian church. Miss Alma Lazenby sang a solo and flowers were beautiful.
Mr. McBride was the last of his father's family surviving only a few weeks his brother, Colonel McBride, who died Dec. 1, in Tecumseh. As a pioneer Uncle Scott was one of the best known of our Yell County men having hosts of friends as evidenced by the birthday parties celebrated for him the last few years. The father of a large and much respected family, a man that lived as he prayed, Havana has lost a man that in his quiet way was a living example for all who knew him. Paul McCall, age 84, died May 6 at a Carlsbad NM. Hospital after a short illness. Born Dec. 6, 1867, in Bluffton, McCall had a long and active political career in both Arkansas and New Mexico. He moved to Carlsbad 30 years ago in November, 1922. He served three terms as probate judge of Yell County, one term in the Arkansas house of representatives and two terms as Eddy County's probate judge. He was known for his profound knowledge of politics and government.
Survivors include his wife, Minnie of Carlsbad; three sons, J. S. McCall and Julian McCall of Carlsbad and R. B. McCall of Chicago, Illinois, six daughters, Mrs. C. R. Lazenby, and Mrs. Neil Phillips of Carlsbad; Mrs. Clyde Patton of Muskogee, Okla. Mrs. L. T. McCann Ruson, La. Mrs. Clara Westerfield of little Rock; and Mrs. Vern Gorley of Curtis, Neb. and 21 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and one brother, J. K. McCall of Stayton, Oregon. BRADENTON, Fla. A. Cleve McCarty, age 64, of Bradenton, Fla. a native of Yell County, president and chairman of the board of Nu-West Industries, died Tuesday.(10-3-1989) McCarty was a past chief operating officer of Beker Industries and a Navy veteran of World War II.
Funeral will be at 2:30 p. m. Friday at Humphrey Funeral, Home of Russellville by the Rev. Kaye Evans. Burial will be in Brearley Cemetery, Dardanelle.

Daniel Noah McClure, age 66, of Rover, died Tuesday, October 17, 1989 near Greenwood, AR. He was a retired poultry processing plant supervisor and a member of the Rover Baptist Church.

Ralph William McClure, age 69, of Rover died Sunday morning, February 21, at the VA Hospital in Little Rock. McClure was a native of Ackerman, Mississippi a retired timberman, a veteran of World War II, and the son of the t late T. L. and Lou Edwards McClure.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Doris Rochell McClure; two sons, Billy McClure of Belleville and Chuck McClure of Texas; two daughters, Sheila V Kennedy of Nash, Texas and Mrs. Phylis Tygart of Little Rock; two brothers, Charlie McClure of Danville and Noah McClure of Rover; one sister, Mrs. Katie Leonard of Mississippi; one grandson, Jody Tygart, and three granddaughters, Miss Amanda Tygart, Miss Lisa Kennedy, and Miss. Jana Kennedy.
Funeral services were held at, the Cornwell Funeral Chapel Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. Ralph Perry officiating. Interment was at the Rover Cemetery. Mrs. Elsie C. McConnell, age 75 of Dardanelle, AR widow of Virgil McConnell, died Friday, December 16, 1994 at AMI St. Mary's Hospital in Russellville. She was born June 6, 1919 at Bluffton, Yell County, Arkansas to the Late Fee Winfield and Dovie Florence Dobbs. She was a retired nurse s aid with Mitchell's Nursing Home in Danville and a housewife and mother.
She was preceded in death by a son, Johnny McConnell and a daughter Eula Dean Sharp.

Franklin Eugene McConnell, age 49, of Bluffton, AR, died in a truck wreck Wednesday, July 26, 1984. McConnell was a native of Bluffton, the son of the late Thomas and Willie Dobbs McConnell. He was a disabled timberman.

BROKEN ARROW, OKLA. - Robert Edward McCool, age 57, of Broken Arrow, Okla. formerly of Plainview, a retired Rockwell International employee and former owner of the Plainview Discount Store, died Saturday, October 21, 1989. McCool was a former 20-year employee of McDonald-Douglas Aircraft, a veteran of the Korean War, a Baptist, and a Mason.

Services were held Monday at the Webb. Funeral Chapel for longtime Strathmore resident Floyd McCurry, age 68, who died Friday in a Lindsay hospital.
Burial was in the Olive Cemetery. Mr. McCurry had made his home in Strathmore for the last 35 years. He was employed by the Irwin Holworthy Ranches.
Surviving are his widow, Maggie McCurry of Strathmore; three sons, Dub McCurry of Lindsay, Larry McCurry of Fremont; four daughters, Donna Cummings of Lindsay, Loretta Oliveira of Grover City, Juanita Rose of Manteca. Shelby Zunino of Lodi; a brother, Frank McCurry of Riddles, Ore.; 18 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

DUMAS - Rubyann Agness Luker McCurry, born Jan. 10, 1912. Beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and good friend, Ruby McCurry, died Dec. 7, 2008 after a short illness in Dumas, AR. Ruby, the youngest of seven children, was born in Yell county, Ark.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvis Luker and Hila Turner Luker; two brothers, and three sisters, Arthur, Ned Foster, Mary Alice, Grangie Mae and Harriet. Her older sister, Lillian is living in a Cabot Nursing Home. Ruby was also preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Mc-Curry, her oldest son, Carmack Don and his wife, Joyce Starks McCurry. A grandson, Paul Dean McCurry, also preceded her in death.
Ruby is survived by four children, Carol Fawn Sizemore, Billy Dean McCurry, Nanbeth McCurry Boyd and Nancy Garry Sue McCurry Pennington; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. The family was Ruby's greatest joy. She was devoted to her church and served as a Sunday School teacher for 30 years and she loved to travel.

Lois J. Smith McGee (Mrs. Allen L.), born 1910 in OK, died August 10, 2009 in Westminster, CA at the age of 99. Lois was the daughter of Miles Ellison and Hannah Mae Hobbs Smith.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen McGee, Karen McGee and Sharon McGee Kalionzes (Mrs.William N); son-in-law; and grandsons, Alex Kalionzes and Andrew Kalionzes; as well as a brother, William G. Smith, and sister, Eunice Smith McGee (Mrs. James M.). Her brother-in-law, nephews, nieces as well as grand and great grand nephews and nieces also survive her. There is also a large extended family of relatives and friends who are considered her survivors.

DARDANELLE Mae Elizabeth McGlothin, 86, of Dardanelle died Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at Dardanelle Nursing Center. She was born March 20, 1922, at Lamar to Tom and Ellen Yandell Smith and was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Carden Bottoms.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Hollis "Dick" McGlothin.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Kay and Sam Parker, Carla and Montie Sims, and Glenda and Lem Keys of Dardanelle; five grandchildren, Sammye Love, Shelley Applegate, Jennifer Bonds, Ashley Jones and Amanda Kisling; and great-grandchildren, Jared Love, Aaron Jones, Bryce Applegate, Brooke Applegate and Benjamin Bonds.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at Cornwell Chapel with the Rev. Jonathan Whitlock officiating. Burial will be in Brearley Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cornwell Funeral Home. Mrs. Marlow (Jennie Gilpin) McTigritt, 79, Briggsville died Sunday in a Little Rock hospital. A native of Kentucky, she was a member of the Methodist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Roy McTigritt of Briggsville and Jim McTigritt of Texarkana; three daughters, Mrs. Omer Blakeney, Danville; Mrs. Tom Collins, Centerville and Mrs. Opal Tatum, California; one sister, Mrs. Fannie Arnet, Ola; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Lee Roy McTigritt, age 88, of Danville, died December 12, 1992 at Chambers Memorial Hospital in Danville. He was a native of Bluffton, son of the late Steven and Jennie Gilpin McTigritt, a retired timberman and farmer and a member of the Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jim McTigritt and a sister, Elizabeth Robinson Tatum.
Survivors include two sisters Jewel Blakney of Danville and Virgie Collins of Louisiana; two nieces, Esther Mayhew and Violet Alexander; two great nephews, Randy and Jeff Smith; two great-great nieces, Sadeidre Smith and Heather Miles and a host of other nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces and great-great nephews and nieces.
Services were December 15 at the Cornwell Chapel in Danville with the Rev. Buck Garner and Rev. Roger Glover. Interment was in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Briggsville by Cornwell Funeral Service. EL RENO Funeral services for Wanda Nacoma Meadows, age 84, of El Reno, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. John V. Chennault, pastor officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. at Rest Haven Memorial Garden, 100 W. Strothers, Seminole. Services are under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Meadows died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002 at Manor Care Nursing Center in Warr Acres. She was born Feb. 10, 1918 in Belleville, Ark., Yell County, to James L. and Gertrude Hunt Hays. She was a 1936 graduate of Wolf High School and a 1941 graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University. Mrs. Meadows married C. Chalon Meadows on May 24, 1942 in Seminole and taught elementary school in Meeker, Seminole, Pryor, El Reno, and Carlsbad, N.M. She taught elementary school at Lincoln and Hillcrest Public Schools in El Reno for 17 years before she retired in 1983. She enjoyed her family very much, and loved singing and playing the piano anytime, anywhere and various nursing homes. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Meadows is preceded in death by her husband, Chalon; her parents, J.L. and Gertrude Hays; and a brother, Fair Hays.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda Slane and husband, Richard, of El Reno; a son, David Meadows and wife, Donita, of Desoto, Texas; three brothers, James L. Hays and wife, Carolyn, of Norman, Bob Hays of wife, Bonnie, of Lyon, Miss., and Mrs. Bonnie Fair Hays of Clarksdale, Miss.; a sister, Ruby Reece of Semiole; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. DARDANELLE - Bessie Jo Meers, age 89 of Dardanelle died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009 at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center. She was born May 25, 1919, at Wilmott to the late John Frank and Cora Reed Roswell. She is preceded in death by her husband Whitnell Woodside Lawrence. Mrs. Meers was a member of the First Baptist Church to Dardanelle. She was a member of the Arkansas Gold Star Wives and of the Dardanelle Garden club. She was a radio talk show host on KCAB radio and a reporter for the Courier Democrat at one time in her life, She served On We Human Services Commission of the Rim Valley and was active retired Teachers Association. She was also active in PRWE, the organization that helped to develop the Gazebo Park area in downtown Dardanelle. She received her B.A. degree from Arkansas Tech at age 58. She started the first Kindergarten class in Dardanelle, called The Little log Cabin Kindergarten. When kindergarten was state mandated, she became a teacher in the Dardanelle Public Schools.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Frank and Marcia Lawrence of Russellville, Dr. Paul S. Meers of Beirut, Lebanon; David and Mary Ann Meers of Idaho; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Dr. Robert Wilson of Heber Springs; a sister, Ruth Waldrop currently living in Russellville; grandsons, Dr. Robert L Wilson of Heber Springs, Matthew Wilson of Miami, Fla., Frank Lawrence Jr. of Little Rock, Dr. George Lawrence of Mountain Home; 12 great- grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, 2 p.m. at Cornwell Chapel, Dardanelle. Burial will be in Brearley Cemetery in Dardanelle. Evelyn Spainhour Melton, age 62, of Briggsville, died early Friday morning, June 26th, 1987 at the Yell County Hospital in Danville. Mrs. Melton was a native of Briggsville. She was the daughter of the late W. E. and Nancy Keys Spainhour. She was a housewife and a mother.
Survivors are her husband, Edd Melton of the home; one son, Billy J. Melton, Rover; one daughter, Linda Hill of Briggsville; a brother, Wesley Spainhour of Texas; a half brother, Huey Spainhour of Briggsville and a half sister, Mrs. Belle Kirksey of Oregon, and five grandchildren.

Mrs. Mary E. Melton, age 74, of Briggsville died Wednesday, July 26, 1989 at DeQueen Community Hospital. She is the daughter of the late Calvin and May Bolen Cooper and a Methodist.
Survivors include her husband, Opal Melton; one son, Lonnie Melton of Briggsville; two daughters, Clema Sue Aist of Greers Ferry and Kay Dishongh of DeQueen; two brothers, Albert Cooper of Magnolia and J. R. Cooper of Newport; one sister, Maggie McClelland of Orange, TX; one half-brother, Herman Cooper of San Diego, CA; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Saturday at Briggsville Methodist Church with Rev. Hulon Wiser and Rev. Joe Carlton officiating. Interment was in Mt. Zion Cemetery at Briggsville. Arrangements were in care of Dixon Funeral Home of Danville. Pallbearers were Mike Aist, Marty Aist, Keith Moix, Kevin Foster, Steve Shipman and Billy Lofland.

Ray Melton, age 58 of Briggsville died Monday, October 6, 1986 at Yell County Hospital in Danville. He was a retired Arkansas State Highway Department employee, a veteran of World War II and the son of the late C. K. and Melvina Keys Melton.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Borders Melton, two sons, Steven Melton of Danville and Michael Melton of Castroville, TX, two daughters, Bambi Jones of Gravelly and Judy Spears of Bluffton, three brothers, Edd and Opal Melton both of Briggsville and Harold Melton of Willits, CA, one sister, Essie Sexton of Bearden, eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, October 8 with Rev. Claud Miles and Rev. Monroe Hunt officiating. Interment was in Mt. Zion Cemetery at Briggsville. Funeral arrangements were in care of Dixon Funeral Home of Danville. Pallbearers were R. H. Mrs. Weltha Melton, age 86, of Fort Smith, a former Yell County resident, died today at a Fort Smith hospital. (May 1975) She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Riddle, and was a member of the Belleville Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include a son, Clell Wheeler of Feet Smith; two daughters, Mrs. Chloe Rice of Danville and Mrs. Mary Moudy of Fort Smith; a sister, Mrs. Marie Rice of Camden; 18 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.

Leah Cowger Mills, age 88, of Pine Bluff, AR, died September 26, 1998, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Born August 17, 1910, at Gravelly, AR she was the daughter of the late James Ira Cowger and Ophelia Ann Hunnicutt Cowger. She was reared and received her early education at Danville. She attended Arkansas Teacher's College at Con-way (now the University of Central Arkansas). After college, she taught third grade and fourth grade and home economics at Harmony Grove School at Haskell. There, she met and married her late husband, Robert Bartley Mills, on April 21, 1936. He died in October 1971. In 1943, the family moved to Little Rock. While living there, she was a homemaker, was active in school and community organizations, and was a member of the Florence Chapter 15 of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was an active member of the Baring Cross Baptist Church, where she organized, directed and taught in the children's department for 30 years. She also taught in the church kindergarten department for 17 years prior to moving to Pine Bluff after the death of her husband. She became a member of the First Baptist Church of Pine Bluff where she held various positions of service in her Sunday School Class, continued her support of the WMU and until her eyesight began to fail at the age of 83, planned and led the singing in the Senior Adult Sunday School department.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers, one being the late Cleo Cowger of Danville.
Survivors are a daughter, Maria Eifling of Pine Bluff; a son, Robert Duane Mills of Spring, TX; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, September 29, 1998 at the Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Chapel. The burial was in the Pinecrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Alexander. The Rev. Mr. Frank Minnie, age 39 of Ola, AR died Monday, August 26, 1996 at the Yell County Nursing Home in Ola. He was a member of the Church of Christ, a U. S. Army Veteran and, a telephone lineman. He was born December 5, 1956 in Stratford, CA.
He was preceded in death by his father, Orvil Minnie.
Survivors include mother, Mrs. Betty Minnie of Mt. George; one son, Jackie Wayne Minnie of Dardanelle; two daughters, Wendy Minnie and Jessica Minnie both of Dardanelle; three brothers Jesse Minnie of Danville; David Minnie and Shelby Minnie both of Russellville; two sisters Shelia Tafolla of Bartlesville, OK and Kimberly Harris of Russellville; one granddaughter and a host of nieces and nephews.

Old Friends Die Two, Weeks Apart In California
Billy W. Mobley grew up on the "Scrougeout Road" between Bluffton and Briggsville. Glen Collins Cathey grew up in Briggsville. Both attended Fourche Valley School and were classmates and friends.
Billy accompanied the Buck King family to Modesto, CA when they moved there in 1943. Glen joined Billy in Modesto in 1944. Both served in the U. S. Army during the latter part of WWII and returned to California. Both loved living in California but cherished their roots in Yell County, Arkansas. They returned to Yell County every chance they got.
Billy returned in April this year to put his home place in good order. He was accompanied by his wife and sister, Glen wanted to make the trip back but was too weak. Both moved to Modesto. Billy moved to Whittier for several years and finally settled in Apple Valley. He was a successful businessman. Among his various enterprises were an English walnut farm and a welding school. Billy was born June 20th, 1927. He died August 18, 1995. He was the son of Edgar (Pud) Mobley and Martha Mobley. He is survived by his wife, Lucy; sons, Billy Michael Mobley of Hesperia, CA and Ronald Mobley of Dana Point, CA and by a stepson, Ray Kuykendall of Hesperia. Other survivors are his mother, Martha Mobley of Livermore, CA; a; brother, George Mobley of Winton, CA; a sister, Norma Lee Chapman of Livermore, CA; nine grand children and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Roger Purdy and the Montecello Masonic Lodge F&AM officiating. Interment was at Rose Hills Memorial Park.
Glen settled in Pico Rivera, CA and also had a residence in Las Vegas, NV. He retired after working 38 years for American-National Can Co. He was a member of the American Legion for 30 years. Glen was born November 2, 1926. He died September 2, 1995. He was the son of Tom Cathey and Alice Cathey.
He is survived by his wife, Johnie; a son, Dana Cathey of Pico Rivera; a sister, Ruby Nell Sanner of Monte Vista, CO and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in Pico Rivera with final resting place in Las Vegas.
The Fourche Valley High School, class of 1945, had its 50th reunion June 17. Neither Billy nor Glen was able to attend. The rest of the class will always remember these two classmates fondly and will remember that they had the courage to head West when they were young to "seek their fortune" and they found it.
