Bailey, Virgil C.

Virgil C. Bailey, Jr. age 76, Liberal, Kansas, died Wednesday morning, July 31 at the Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, KS. He was born November 4, 1919 at Nimrod, Arkansas to Virgil C. Sr. and Sybil L. Gladden Bailey. He was married to Katie L. Glasgow on May 19, 1939 at Ola, Arkansas, she survives. He graduated from high school at Ola, AR hi 1937. He entered the U. S. Army Air Corps and served in World War II and was a hydraulics specialist. He came to Liberal in October 1943 and was a miller at the Light Grain & Milling 15 years before he purchased a machine shop. Virgil was a commercial pilot and flight instructor, he was also professional photographer and loved to fish and hunt. He owned and operated the Bailey Machine Shop before retiring in 1984.

In addition to his wife, Katie, he is survived by one son, Gary Bailey, Winter Park, CO; one daughter, Doneta Dudley, Kansas City, KS; two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday at the Western Avenue Church of Christ, Liberal, with Glenn Walton, officiating. Interment was in Restlawn Memorial Gardens. The family suggests that memorials be sent to the Western Avenue Church of Christ, 215 S. Baldwin, Ethel Clement

Mrs. Ethel Clement Baldwin, age 93, of HOT SPRINGS, formerly of Russellville, died Saturday. Mrs. Baldwin was a member of Russellville Culture Club and First United Methodist Church, Russellville.

Graveside service will be at 2 p. m. Monday at Oakland Cemetery, Russellville. Burial will be by Shinn Funeral Home, Russellville.

Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Jack Wright of Hot Springs; a brother, Dr. B. L. Clement of Vero Beach, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Mark Breimo of El Dorado; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. (Submitted by: Patsy Gatliff, 2/-/1986)


Ballenger, William (Bill) L.

William (Bill) L. Ballenger of Fort Worth, TX died October 16, 1979. He was the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. W. E. Ballenger of Plainview.

Survivors include his wife, Fran of Fort Worth; one brother, LeRoy Ballenger of Dallas; and one sister, Mrs. Lillian Sorrels of Brinkley, AR. Interment was in Greenwood Memorial Park of Fort Worth. (Submitted by: Patsy Gatliff, 10/16/1979)


Bardwell, Arve Z.

Arve Z. Bardwell, age 90, of Hot Springs, died Saturday, June 30, 1990 in a local hospital. A native of Glenwood, he was a retired employee of Dierks Lumber Co., and was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church. He was the widower of Elizabeth Bardwell.

Survivors include a son, Don Bardwell; a daughter, Eula Bardwell of California; a brother, Ralph Bardwell of Glenwood; two sisters, Edith Crews of Mountain Pine and Avis Cummins of Deer Trail, Colo.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Bardwell, Doris

OLATHE, Kan. - Doris Bardwell, age 75, of Olathe, Kan., died Sunday, May 13, 1990 at a local hospital. A native and former resident of Glenwood, she was a retired nurse. She was a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include two brothers, Arve Bardwell of Hot Springs and Ralph Bardwell of Glenwood; two sisters, Edith Crews of Hot Springs and Avis Cummings of Deer Trail, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Bethel Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Kelso officiating. Burial will be at Bethel Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home of Glenwood. (Submitted by: Patsy Gatliff, 5/13/1990)


Bates, Peggy Nan Gilmore

Peggy Nan Gilmore Bates, age 55, of Little Rock, AR, died Monday, September 16, 1996. She was a member and former church secretary of Markham Street United Methodist Church. She was a retired educator of thirty-one years and principal with Pulaski County Special School District at Joe T. Robinson and Lawson Elementary Schools.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Richard Bates and her mother, Maxine Gilmore.

She is survived by a son, James R. Bates, Jr. of Little Rock; her father, Cecil Gilmore of Danville, AR; two sisters, Wanda Tester of Clinton and Rosemary Williams of Springdale; and a brother-in-law, Donald Bates of Little Rock.

The funeral was held Wednesday at Markham Street United Methodist Church with Rev. George Williams and Rev. Joe Wilkerson of floating. Graveside service was at Briggs Cemetery at Briggsville, Yell County, Arkansas. (Submitted by: Patsy Gatliff, 9/16/1996)


Baugh, Camelia

Mrs. Camelia Baugh, age 78, of J Casa, AR died Friday, June 4, 1993 at Yell County Nursing Home of Ola, AR. She was the widow of E. E. Baugh Jr. and a member of St. Johns's Catholic Church of Russellville. She was a retired nurse.

Survivors are three sons and daughters-in-law, Mack and Susan Baugh of Sarasota, FL, Jimmy and Jill Baugh of Dardanelle and Bob and Sandy Baugh of Mendham, N. J. and five grandchildren, Rhett Baugh, Brett Baugh, Brandon Baugh, Courtney Baugh and Matthew Baugh.

Rosary services were held Sunday. Funeral services were June 7 at St. John's Catholic Church by the Rev. David Jacobs and the Rev. Paul Worm. Graveside services were June 8 at Calvary Cemetery in Memphis, TN with burial by Memphis Funeral Home. Local arrangements were by Shinn Funeral Home. Bear, Irvin Jackson

Irvin Jackson Bear, age 42, of Plainview died December 17 at the Yell County Hospital at Danville. He was a member of the Plainview Free Will Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Joan Bear; two stepsons, Randy Heller of San Augustine, TX and Darrell Maynard of Lincoln, Neb; three stepdaughters, Sheryl Flournay of Jasper, Texas, Sheila Hellen of Hot Springs and Sharon Smith of Lumberton, TX; his parents Erwin and Clara Bear of Plainview; a brother, Paul Baer of Plainview; one sister, Marie Bloxham of Wilburton, OK; nine grandchildren.

Funeral was held Friday, December 19 at Plainview Free Will Baptist Church by the Rev. Randall Williams arid the Rev. Johnny Thompson. Benedict, Dennus Lee

Dennus Lee Benedict, age 101, of Ola and a retired farmer died July 5th. He was a member of the Ola Assembly of God Church.

Survivors are three sons, Gene Benedict and Arlyss Benedict, both of Ola and David Benedict of Sapulpa, OK; four daughters, Mrs. Dorris McBride of Alamogordo, N. M. Mrs. Lorene Jones of Belleville, Mrs. Mary Bitticks of Lavaca and Mrs. Cherry Turner of Ola; one sister, Mrs. Annie Venetz of Pawhuska, OK; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Benefield, Faliece

Faliece Benefield, age 79, died Saturday, February 10, 1996 at the Morrilton Manor Nursing Home in Morrilton. She was a native of Bluffton, AR (Yell County), and was a daughter of the late Lemuel Hardy Benefield and the late Vernetta Melissa Nettie Stout Benefield. She was retired from Morton Frozen Foods (now Con-Agra) and attended the Four Squares Gospel Church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Butler.

Survivors include three sisters, Oma Lee Burns and Ruby Benefield both of Dardanelle and Billie Owens of Russellville and a nephew Jerry L. Caldwell of El Paso, TX.

Benefield, Marvin. C.

Marvin. C. Benefield, age 101, a resident of Ola, died September 27, 2007, at his home. He was born September 18, 1906, in Briggsville to James and Agusta Smith Benefield. M. C. was retired from Shipper s Ice and also had been a barber, truck driver, and mail man. He was of the Baptist faith. He loved gardening and telling friends and family stories.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret Benefield; his son, Bob Benefield; and all of his brothers and sisters.

Survivors include a granddaughter and her husband, Pamela and John Kemp of Calexico, California; three great grandchildren, Shelley, Jackie and Chris Kemp all of Escondido, California; an honorary daughter, Billie Sharp of Ola; three special friends, Robert Avery of Dardanelle, Marcella Nichols of Ola, and Jewel Hampton of Dardanelle; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, September 29, 2007, at the Shinn Chapel with the Rev. David Bond officiating. Burial will be in Ola-Sandlin Cemetery at Ola under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service. Active pallbearers will be Leon Smith, Verlon Scott, Don McCoy, David Garrett, Dale McCoy, and Allen Benefield. Dr. Karl Sandberg will serve as honorary pallbearer. Benefield, Max

Max Benefield, age 75 of Ola, AR passed away Wednesday, September 18, 1996 at Chambers Memorial Hospital in Danville. He was born in Briggsville, AR January 24, 1921 son of the late James Marcus Dugan and Augusta Benefield. He was a retired farmer.

He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Benefield.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Dimple George Benefield; two sons, Billy Benefield and David Benefield both of Fairbanks, AK; five daughters, Sharon Johnson of Vian, OK, Joanne Sikes, Warner, OK, Ellen Neighbors, Gore, OK, Tammy Mayers, Warner, OK and Sandra Johnson of Gore, OK; a brother, M. C. Benefield; a step-daughter, Ginger Hance of Casa, AR; 27 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Imogene Beshears age 24, died at a hospital in Hot Springs, October 25, following a long illness.

She is survived by her husband, Ernest Beshears and two sons of Hot Springs; her father, J. Y. Johnson, of Hot Springs; her mother, Cora Blockwood, of Jessieville; five brothers and four sisters, two aunts, Hattie Hull of Onyx and Maud Spears of Plainview; three uncles, Tom and Hollis Cox of Steve and Luster Cox of Benton. Arvel A. Billingsley, age 71, of Bluffton, AR died Saturday, April 30, 1994 at Chambers Memorial Hospital in Danville. He was a native of Krebs, OK, son of the late Arthur A. and Elmira Lee Billingsley. He was a retired machinist for John Deere Tractor Works and a WWII Army Veteran.

A. L. (Roy) Bird, age 74 of Plainview, a retired printer, died Saturday at Russellville. He was a former linotype operator for the Gazette and later owned a printing shop in Little Rock. He had operated Bird's Cabins at Plainview since moving there in 1947.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Vivian Bird, a son, A. L. Bird, Jr. of Fayetteville; a brother, Professor V A. Bird of Rochester, N. Y.; two sisters, Mrs. J. C. Birdwell, Laura Iris

Funeral services for Laura Iris Birdwell, of Carrollton, will be 2 p.m. today at Peters Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bob Gregory officiating. Burial will be in Tidwell Cemetery.

She died Wednesday in Carrollton. Born May 1, 1904, in Fate, she was the daughter of George and Theodocia Beattie Williamson. On Aug. 5, 1925, she married Clarence Birdwell in Royse City. Mrs. Birdwell was a member of Tidwell Baptist Church.

Survivors include sons, Bobby Birdwell of Dallas, Glenn Birdwell of Garland, Charles Birdwell, Lynn Birdwell and Stanley Birdwell, all of Greenville; daughters, Mary Latham of Amarillo and Sandra Hart of Carrollton; brother, Mims Williamson of Rockwall; sisters, Georgia Fulton of Amarillo and Evelyn Bilhiemer of Little Rock, Ark.; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; three sons; one sister; and four brothers.

I. G. Bittle, age 67, or Rover died Thursday, May 19 in a Little Rock hospital. He was a retired mechanic and school bus driver for the Plainview-Rover Schools and was a member of the Rover Baptist Church.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Mazelle Haywood Bittle of the home; four sons Till Thomas of Danville, Bobby Gean of Russellville, Jackie George of Dardanelle and I. J. Bittle of Davis, OK; two sisters, Mrs. Media Hawkins of Rover and Mrs. Hazel Sanders of Danville; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Saturday, May 21 at the Rover Baptist Church with Rev. Claude Miles and James Johnson officiating. Claudie Ray Black, age 46, of Rt. 1, Ola died April 17, 1978. Mr. Back was a retired superintendent of the Camden Country Club, a member of the Assembly of God Church, the son of the late Thurman and Bertha Morris Black.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Frankie Lorene Baker Black; one daughter, Mrs. Patricia Ann Minnie of Hope, AH, one brother, Thurman Black, Jr. of Phoenix, AZ; two sisters, Mrs. Sadie Tedder of Phoenix, AZ. and Mrs. Jean Wallerowitz of West Frankfort, IL; two stepsisters, Mrs. Effie Hunt of Blue Ball and Mrs. Letha Salizer of Phoenix, AZ; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were Wednesday, April 19, at the Ola Assembly of God Church with Rev. Jerry Schlinker officiating. Interment was in the Young Gravelly Cemetery. Black, Elisha

Elisha Black died at his home in Bluffton January 14 after a long illness. He was 74 years old and member of the Baptist Church.

Blackstock, Fred Lee

RUSSELLVILLE - Fred Lee Blackstock, age 72, of Plainview (Yell County) died Friday. He was a retired barber, a member of Plainview Methodist Church, Modern Woodmen and Plainview Chamber of Commerce and a former member of the Plainview School Board.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ella Ryals Blackstock; three daughters, Mrs. William H. Arlen of North Carolina, Mrs. Archer W, Brown of Minnesota and Mrs. James C. Hutchins of Oklahoma; two brothers, George Honeycutt of Dumas and Albert Honeycutt of California; two sisters, Mrs. Irene New of Plainview and Mrs. Molissie Lemons of Gravelly, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Blakeney, Jewel McTigritt

Mrs. Jewel McTigritt Blakeney, age 88, of Danville, AR died Friday, December 8, 1995 at Chambers Memorial Hospital in Danville. She was a native of Bluffton, AR daughter of the late Steven Marlow and Jennie Gilpin McTigritt. She was a retired teacher, postmistress and nurse s aides, she was a member of the Danville Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim and Roy McTigritt and a sister, Elizabeth Robinson Tatum.

Survivors include one daughter, Esther Mayhew of Danville; one sister, Virgie Collins of Keithville, LA; two grandsons, Randy and Jeff Smith of Danville; two great-granddaughters, Sadeirdre Smith and Heather Miles of Danville and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 11 at 2:00 p. m. at the Cornwell Funeral Home Chapel in Danville with Dr. J. O. Pennington officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Briggsville. Blankenship, Carrie Sims

Funeral services were held here Friday morning for Mrs. Carrie Sims Blankenship, age 80, who died at the Russellville hospital Tuesday, November 22. Services were held in the Dardanelle Church of Christ with Minister. C. V. Langford officiating. Burial was in the Chickalah cemetery by Cornwell Funeral Service.

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. T.J. Hatfield of Dardanelle and Mrs. Joe Johnson of Little Rock; three sons, Gerald Sims of Dardanelle, Bert and Auburn Sims of Muskogee, Okla; one sister, Mrs. Bessie Baudry of Hot Springs; 18 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren.

ROVER - Dovie Levonia Gladden Blankenship, age 92, of Rover, wife of William S. Blankenship, died Monday. (4-1-1991) She was a member of Rover Baptist Church.

Funeral will be at 2 p. m. today at the church. Burial will be in Hunt Chapel Cemetery by Dixon Funeral Home of Danville.

Mary Juanita Rounsville Blankenship, age 46, of North Little Rock, formerly of Bluffton, died Saturday night, November 24th, 1984 at her home. She was a native of Bluffton, wife of Roy Blankenship, daughter of the late Thomas and Effie Vines Rounsaville. She was a housewife and homemaker.

Survivors include husband, Roy Blankenship of the home; one son, Bill Blankenship of Bluffton; two daughter, Mary Minnie of Little Rock; and Patsy Brigance of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; two brothers, R. T. Rounsaville, of Oregon; and Howard Turner of Rover; her mother Mrs. Effie Rounsaville; and also 6 grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held at 2:00 p. m. Tuesday, November 27th at the Cornwell Funeral Chapel in Danville by Rev. Claude Miles. Internment was in the Bluffton Cemetery in Bluffton. Blankenship, William Sherman

William Sherman Blankenship, age 91, of Rover, died last Wednesday, July 28, 1984. He was born October 10, 1892 in Punkin Town. Until his death, he was the oldest living member of the Plainview VFW. He fought in World War I. William has lived most of his life in Yell County. He was called to serve his country in World War I in 1913. He was a retired fanner, forest warden, black smith, and a life member of the VFW. He was a member of the Rover Baptist Church. William was married to Dovie Levonia Gladden on December 16, 1917. The couple has eight children.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lucy Orene Blankenship.

Survivors include his wife, Dovie L. Blankenship; his children, Joe Blankenship, John Blankenship, Gracie Holloway, Gene Morrison, and Ethel Reed all of Rover; Arlene Carpenter of Hot Springs and Roy Blankenship of North Little Rock. Twenty-six grand children, thirty-three great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Two sisters, Lenora Hunt and Bertha Phillips of Plainview. One brother preceded him in death, James Blankenship of Ola.

Funeral services were Friday, July 20, at 2:00 p. m. at the Rover Baptist Church. Burial was at the Hunt Cemetery at Rover. Bro. Claude Miles, Bro. James Johnson and Bro. Bobby Adams officiated. Arrangements were in care of Dixon Funeral Home of Danville. Pallbearers were S. R. Eden, Stanley Noon, Hank Shelton, Harold Gillum, W. T. Pugh, and Clifford Spears. Honorary Pallbearers were Jerry Williams, J. M. Scroggins, Charley Harmon, Dr. J. O. Pennington, Jim Donnell, Dorsey Sutterfield, John Hamilton, True Fitch, and Johnny Fowler. Blevins, Edna Eden

Edna Eden Blevins, age 74, a resident of Stockton, CA passed away September 23, 1992. She was born in Dierks, AR but grew up in Rover, AR. She met and married the late Albert G. Blevins and they lived together for 47 years until his death.

She was preceded in death by one daughter Wylene Baunback.

She is survived by one son, Albert Blevins, Jr. one daughter, Geri Shankel both of Stockton; three brothers, Elmer Eden, Roy Eden and SR Eden of Arkansas; four sisters, Lorene Breashears of Upland, Ruby Moss of Fairfield, Mary Ray of Danville, AR and Joyce Perry of Gisville; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and many friends.

Boggs, Maxine Elwanda

OLA - Maxine Elwanda Boggs age 63, of Ola, wife of Billy Boggs, died Friday. (July 24, 1992)

Funeral will be at 10 a. m. Tuesday at Ola United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Sandlin Cemetery. Arrangements are by Humphrey Funeral Service.

Other survivors are a son, Edwin Lee Boggs of Plainview; two daughters, Brenda Jean Swicegood and Linda Sue Higgins, both of Russellville; four brothers, H. A. Stapleton of Woodbridge, Calif. Hoyle Stapleton of Clarksville, James H. Staple-ton of Sierra Vista, Ariz. and Billy J. Stapleton of New Blaine; a sister, Ruth J. Bogle, Gusty S.

Mrs. Gusty S. Bogle, age 86, of Parkview Manor in Danville, AR died Wednesday, October 18, 1995 at St. Vincents Infirmary in Little Rock. She was born August 20, 1909 in Sugar Grove, AR, daughter of the" late William J. and Nancy Manus Ritchie. She was a mother and homemaker.

She was the widow of James Briggs Bogle.

Survivors one sons, Bill Bogle of Little Rock, AR; one daughter, Detonne Pouzar of Houston, TX; one sister, Josephene Howertow of Hot Springs, AR; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Boles, Gorden

Gorden Boles, Age 88, of Dardanelle, AR died Tuesday, February 14, 1995 at the Dardanelle Hospital. He was the eldest son of the late Seth and Gordie Albright Boles and was born in Bluffton, AR on March 23, 1906. A lifetime resident of Dardanelle, he has spent his last four years as a resident of the Yell County Nursing Home in Ola. A retired employee of the U. S. Postal Service, he was instrumental in the development of the poultry industry in the Arkansas River Valley. As a private businessman, he owned and operated Southern Poultry Service and Mutual Sales Association until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dardanelle, a Rotarian and a Mason. As a young man he attended the University of Arkansas where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Paternity.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Elizabeth "Polly" Boles.

He is survived by a son, John Gorden Boles of Sherwood; a daughter, Sylvia Ann (Boles) Hays of Mt. Pleasant, MI; two brothers, J. Keith Boles of Monterrey, CA and Neil J. Boles of Ft. Smith, AR; two sisters, Kittle Baker of Russellville and Nina Hunt of Dardanelle; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.

Services were February 19 at Cornwell Chapel, Dardanelle with Rev. Bennie Harmon officiating. Interment was in Brearley Cemetery by Cornwell Funeral Service of Dardanelle. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Dardanelle. Boles, Seth

Mr. Seth Boles, age 93 years, died Wednesday, August 8, 1951, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Rankin Baker, in Russellville. Mr. Boles was born at Bluffton in the southwest part of Yell County, but for the past half-century had resided in Dardanelle. As a young man he taught in the schools of Yell County.

From 1872 to 1876 he was deputy U. S. Marshal for the Western District of Arkansas, serving largely in the old Indian Territory. At that time the Indian Territory (now Oklahoma) harbored many of the Old West's outlaws and, desperadoes, and Marshal Boles had a part in the arrest of many of the desperate characters that terrorized the Arkansas-Indian Territory border. Later Mr. Boles engaged extensively in farming and stock raising. He helped to organize and for years served as President of the old First National Bank of Dardanelle.

Under the Hoover administration he served as Postmaster of Dardanelle. He was a life-long member of the Methodist Church. Mr. Boles is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Charles Hunt, of Dardanelle, and Mrs. Rankin Baker, of Russellville, with whom for the past few months he had made his home; four sons, Gorden Boles, of Dardanelle, Seth Boles, Jr. of England, Keith Boles, of the Navy at Norfolk, Va. and Neil Boles, of Fort Smith, and 11 grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10:00 a. m. Friday at the Methodist Church here by Rev. Ray McLester, Pastor, and Rev. M. O. Cockerham, Pastor of the Presbyterian Church. Boles, Seth (Mrs.)

Dardanelle was saddened yesterday to learn of the death about 9 o clock a. m. of Mrs. Seth Boles, Sr. aged 62, wife of Mr. Seth Boles, Sr. Mrs. Boles was taken suddenly ill Sunday afternoon while at the bus station where she accompanied her daughter, Miss Kitty, who was to return to Texarkana after a brief visit home. Her condition remained serious until her death yesterday morning. Mrs. Boles, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. S. G. Albright, was a native of Yell County where she spent her entire life, most of it as a resident of Dardanelle. She was a woman of lovely character, gracious, kindly and sympathetic, and was loved and admired by all with whom she came in contact. A member of the Methodist Church from girlhood, she was a devoted Christian, a loyal, faithful wife, a kind and loving mother, and a true and helpful friend.

Mrs. Boles is survived by her husband; four sons, Gorden and Seth, Jr. of Dardanelle; Keith, of the U. S. Navy, now stationed in the Samoan Islands, and Neil, of the U. S. Army, stationed on the Pacific Coast; two daughters, Mrs. Charles Hunt, of Dardanelle, and Miss Kitty Boles, of Texarkana; a sister, Mrs. Kitty Aikin; and a brother, Paul Watt, of Little Rock.

The funeral service, conducted by Rev. E. W. Faulkner, Pastor of the Methodist Church, will be held at the family home on Third Street at 10:00 o clock Friday morning. Pallbearers will be Active Messrs. H. L. Hunt, Norphleet Hughes, Dr. W. D. Jacoway, Joe D. Gault Sr., Fred C. Burnett, Jr. and Harrison Farnum. Honorary Messrs. Geo. N. Goodier, M. D. Ho well, Joe Goodier, Herbert C. Scott, Dr. Gilroy Cornwall, Geo. F. Upton, Judge T. E. Wilson and Robert Berry. Bonner, Carl

Mr. Carl Bonner, age 85, of Danville, died Sunday, September 12, 1993 at his home. He was born September 4, 1943 in Plainview. He is the son of Hunter and Belle Hunt Bonner of Danville. He was a self-employed mechanic and a veteran of the Vietnam War.

Survivors other than his parents are his brother Claude Bonner of North Little Rock.

Services were September 14, 1993 at the United Methodist Church of Danville with the Revs. Mike Morey and Roger Glover officiating. Burial was in the Salem Cemetery in Ola. Bonner, Claude Hunter

Mr. Claude Hunter Bonner, age 87, of Danville, AR died Tuesday. (Nov 1993) He was born April 6, 1906 in Plainview, AR to the late Claude and Mattie Watson Bonner. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Danville United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by a son, Carl Bonner.

Survivors are his wife, Belle Hunt Bonner; a son, Claude Bonner of No. Little Rock; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Bonner, Clyde Lee

Clyde Lee Bonner died January 5, 1986 at Mercy Hospital, Waldron. Clyde is the son of Hunter and Belle Bonner of Danville. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Waldron. Clyde was a graduate of A&M College at Monticello and has been with U. S. Forest Service in Miss. Alabama and Arkansas.

Other than his parents, he is survived by his wife Adrianne Woodruff Bonner; one daughter Laura, a student at UCA, and one son Steven of the home; two brothers, Claude of North Little Rock and Carl of Danville.

Booher, Jimmie L.

Jimmie L. Booher, age 58, of Las Vegas, NV passed away June 7th, 1996, after a courageous but short battle against colon cancer.

He was the son of the late J. L. and Johnnie Lou Booher. He was a native of Plainview, AR.

Survivors are: his wife, JoAnn of Las Vegas; two daughters, Tammy Jaye Koonce of Mesquite, TX and Deborah Elizabeth Booher of Las Vegas; two aunts, Reba Ryan of Plainview, AR and Juanita Turner of Barling, AR; one brother, Jerry L. Bottoms, Myrtle Elliott

Mrs. Myrtle Elliott Bottoms, age 75, of North Little Rock, and a native of Briggsville, died early Thursday morning at the Jacksonville Hospital. Mrs. Bottoms was the daughter of the late Nathan and Vennetta Ray Elliott, the widow of Ervin Bottoms. She was a member of the First Pentecostal Church in North Little Rock and a housewife.

Survivors include six sons, Leroy Bottoms, Tommy Bottoms, Homer Lee Bottoms, all of North Little Rock, Robert of Florida, Leo Bottoms of Dumas, and Jimmy Bottoms of Georgia; four daughters, Mrs. Evy Summett of Dardanelle, Mrs. Willie Underwood of Oklahoma, Mrs. Glenna Long of North Little Rock and Mrs. Lela Bond of Michigan; 31 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 20, in The First Pentecostal Church 52 Place, North Little Rock, with Rev. Joel N. Holmes officiating. Graveside services were at 3:00 p. m. at the Mt. Bowen, Lottie Mae

HOT SPRINGS - Miss Lottie Mae Bowen, age 81, of Hot Springs, a retired Sunset Drive-in cashier, died Thursday. She was a former J. J. Newberry Co. soda-fountain manager, a past Noble Grand of Rebecca Lodge, a past Matron of the National Park chapter 568 of the Order of the Easter Star, and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 2278 and Highland Presbyterian Church.

Funeral will be at 2 p. m. today at Highland Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery by Hot Springs Funeral Home.

Boyers, Thomas, III

Boyers, 79, Dead Of Heart Attack - Thomas Boyers III, judge of the 9th Circuit Court and member of a distinguished Sumner County family, died Saturday at his home in Gallatin from an apparent heart attack.

His funeral will be 2 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church where he was a deacon, elder and was presently serving as a trustee. Burial will be in Gallatin City Cemetery. The Rev. Charles Moffatt, pastor at First Presbyterian, will officiate. Pallbearers will be Thomas Garrott, Robert Alexander, Eugene Branham Jr., Tommy Perkins, Felix Fly, J.T. Warden, D.H. Jenkins and Alvin Ford. Donoho-Legge-Newby Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Boyers was appointed circuit judge in 1965 by then-Gov. Frank Clement, succeeding Judge Will Puryear who was elevated to the Court of Civil Appeals. The 79-year-old jurist carried a full case load and only Friday had spent the day in Springfield on the bench. He covered Sumner, Robertson and Montgomery counties. Gov. Lamar Alexander has the option of appointing an interim judge to fill Boyers' position until the 1982 elections. Should he choose not to appoint, the chief justice of the state Supreme Court could designate someone to fill in. Boyers had indicated he'd not seek another term and his son, Thomas Boyers IV, Gallatin city attorney, had been mentioned as a candidate to run for the position.

The Boyers family has been in Sumner County for at least six generations. His great-grandfather, R.M. Boyers, was a businessman who constructed and occupied a building where Parks Realty now is located. According to a marker erected a decade ago, the now-bricked log building was put up in 1814. Boyers also donated the land for First Presbyterian Church to be built on. His grandfather, the first Thomas Boyers, became a newspaper editor and publisher. He was editor of the 10th Legion, a Gallatin weekly in the late 1840's was editor, then editor and publisher of the Daily Centre State American in Nashville for nearly a decade. He returned to Gallatin in the late 1850s and organized the Gallatin Examiner. He was paymaster in the provisional Army of Tennessee, later an officer in the Confederate Army.

Throughout the years, the Boyers have been active in the Democratic Party in the county and state. Thomas Boyers Sr. was a member of the Democratic state executive committee.

Judge Boyers graduated from Vanderbilt Law School. While an undergraduate, he met his wife, Johnnie Mae Harkey, a coed from Arkansas. They were married 57 years. After graduation the couple moved to Texas and then to Arkansas where Boyers practiced law. He also was a member of the Legislature in Arkansas.

Survivors besides Mrs. Boyers and Thomas IV are another son, John Boyers, an officer with First and Peoples Bank in Gallatin; a daughter, Betty Ann Boyers; and three grandchildren.
