Owens, Iva Lee (Lambert)

Iva Lee Lambert Owens, age 94, of Plainview went home to Jesus Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center. She was born May 8, 1920 at Story, Arkansas to the late Thomas Jefferson and Alicia Elva Young Lambert. She was a member of the Hilltop Church of Brush Creek for some 50 years and thought of the congregation as one big happy family. She was known for her deep love of the sacred songs of the church. From rocking her babies to sleep while singing those songs, to singing specials in church to the age of 94, she was always ready to sing a gospel song. Her love for the Lord shone through every song she sang. She was a devoted wife to her husband and a loving mother to seven children. She welcomed each grandchild, great-grandchild, and great-great-grandchild with great delight. Each new little one refreshed her love for family and somehow seemed to keep her youthful. No matter her circumstances, she never relinquished her role as mother and grandmother, always assuring each family member of her love for them. Her love for family was also reflected in her correspondence with relatives scatted across the country. Nothing pleased her more than when someone she had not seen in years stopped by her home. She always seemed to start visiting with them as if there had never been a separation of time and distance.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elza Wheeler Owens; one daughter, Elgean Owens Smith; one son, Robert Leon Owens; two brothers, William Denton and Opal; two sisters, Myrtle and Ola Elizabeth and one niece, Lorene Lambert Pelt.
