Ray, Mary (Harris)

Mary Harris Ray, 59, of Danville, AR, died Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at Arkansas Hospice River Valley Home in Russellville, AR. The daughter of Louise Woodrum and Walter P. Harris, MD, she was born December 22, 1952 in Little Rock, AR. Mary was a Case Worker with Arkansas Human Services and worked in Yell, Pope, and Perry during her 17 year career. She enjoyed reading and playing with her grandkids.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Tommy Harris.

Survivors include husband, J.T. Ray of Danville; sister, Patricia Harris of Seattle, WA; two sons, Preston Hunnicutt of Danville, Nicholas Hunnicutt & wife Cara of Concord, AR; stepson, Bobby Ray of Danville; seven grandkids, Aaron Hunnicutt, Dalton Hunnicutt, Dominic Hunnicutt, Casey Shelton, Whitney Shelton, Johnny Shelton, and Marshall Ray. A memorial service was May 5, 2012 at Danville First United Methodist Church. J.A. Hunnicutt officiated.

Ray, Melba Van

Melba Van Ray, 12 year old daughter of Red and Kate Van Ray of Snider, Okla. Was drowned July 26, 1948 while in swimming with other young folks. When last seen she was on an inner tube. After she was missed, a search was begun but she was not found until 7 o clock that evening. Every effort was made to restore life but couldnt be done. She was buried at Snider July 28.

She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Red Van Ray, two brothers, Travis, California and Ralf, of Snider; two sisters, Mrs. Lavern Adams, New Mexico and Mrs. Malicia Tyler, Snider, Okla. Ray, Rachel (Sanders) (Mrs.)

Mrs. Rachel B. Ray, age 86 of Danville died early Monday, November 11, at the Yell County Hospital in Danville. She was a native of Waltreak, the daughter of the late Jake and Mary Gee Sanders and a member of the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Chester and Edgar Ray both of Danville; one daughter, Mrs. Vina Hames of Danville; two brothers, Walter Sanders of Danville and Otto Sanders of Caqulle, Ore.; 11 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Missionary Baptist Church (Landmark) in Danville, with Bro. J. W. McElroy and Bro Luther Riddle officiating, with interment at the Chalybeate Springs Cemetery, west of Danville. Ray, Walter

Walter Ray, age 88 of Russellville, died Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at Legacy Lodge Nursing Home. He was born May 19, 1920 in Indianapolis, IN to the late Walter and Nettie Wilson Ray He retired from Citizens Gas Company after 22 years of service. He was a 32 Degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rites Englewood Lodge in Indianapolis, IN.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Kathryn Ray of Russellville; sons and a daughter-in-law, Marshall and Nancy Ray of Jacksonville, William Howard Ray of Gumlog; daughter, Julie Ray of Russellville; brother, Carl Ray of Indiana; sister, Beaulah Wiggs of Indiana; five grandchildren, William Ray, Don Ray, Kyle Ray, Ember Ray, and Jasmine Ray.

Ray, Wilma Fay

Mrs. Wilma Fay Ray, age 57, of Danville, AR died Monday, July 21, 1997 at University Medical Center in Little Rock. She was born in Havana, AR May 29, 1940 daughter of the late Omer and Ressie Bell Osburn. She was a mother, homemaker and a member of the Danville Landmark Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Osburn and a sister, Gene Henderson.

Survivors include her husband, J. T. Ray; a son, Bobby Ray of Conway; three sisters, Nettie Grimmett of Dallas, TX, Jewell Renfro of Oklahoma City, OK and Elaine Earls of Danville, AR and a host of nephews and nieces.

Funeral service was Thursday at the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. E. O. Tackett, Rev. John McElroy and Rev. William Canard officiating. Rea, Sara Ruth

Sara Ruth Rea, age 83 of Lonoke, formerly of Birta, died Thursday, February 13, 2003 at Select Specialty Hospital in Little Rock. She was born August 9, 1919 in Birta, Arkansas to the late Joseph E. and Ruia Hambright Singleton. She was the retired supervisor of housekeeping for St. Vincent Hospital in Little Rock and a homemaker and mother.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Adolph J. McCauley and Elvon Del Rea; a son, Jerry Richard McCauley.

Survivors are a daughter-in-law, Mary Marguerite McCauley of Conway; two grandchildren and spouse, John Michael and Tina Marie McCauley and Patricia Lea McCauley, all of Conway; two sisters, Johnnie Carolyn Bransford and Gene Jamar, both of Lonoke; one great grandchild, Geri Michelle McCauley of Conway.

Services were Monday, February 17, 2003 at the Birta Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Jon Holbrook officiating. Interment was in Birta Cemetery by Cornwell Funeral Home, Danville. Reagan, Oma Lucille

Oma Lucille Reagan, age 95, passed from this life on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at the Perry County Nursing Home. She was born on September 2, 1912 in Havana. She was the daughter of Ida Mae Owen and Lester Roberson. She lived most of her adult life in Dumas and Little Rock, Arkansas. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Reagan; her daughter, Maeoma Reagan Cooper; brothers, Jean and Olean Roberson and sisters, Vivian Readier, Lillian Ingram and Alma Barnett.

She is survived by her grandson, Sam Reagan Cooper and his wife, Lynn; granddaughter, Lee Ann Bollinger and her husband, Isaac; her great grandchildren, Haley Whitten Cooper, Mary Elise Cooper, Frances Blaine Bollinger, and Bronwen Bess Bollinger, all of Little Rock; her sisters, Thelma Hise of Booneville and Bonnie Starling of Weed, California; a sister-in-law, Betty Roberson Covey of Rover; and several nieces and nephews.

Reagan, Robert D. "Bob"

DANVILLE - Robert D. "Bob" Reagan, age 80, of Danville died Sunday, March 1, 1987 at Yell County Hospital. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert G. Reagan, retired postmaster at Danville and was a member of Danville Masonic Lodge 41 for more than 50 years. He served on the board of the National Association of Postmasters and board of stewards of Danville United Methodist Church. He was a charter member of Danville Lions Club.

Survivors include four daughters, Paula McDowell of Moline, ILL., Pat Delaney of Little Rock, Bobbie Beckler of Ducktown, Tenn. and Marty Stewart of Slidell, La.; his stepmother, Mrs. Oma Reagan of Little Rock; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ola Sharp of Russellville; eight grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

DANVILLE - Mrs. Sarah Laverne Stepp Reagan, age 78, of Danville died Sunday, February 22, 1987 at Yell County Hospital. She was a native of Atkins, a member of Danville United Methodist Church, and participated in Danville Music Club, Business and Professional Women's Club, and Yell County Fair activities. Mrs. Reagan was a former Post Office worker at Danville, serving 28 years as postal clerk and assistant postmaster.

Survivors include her husband, Bob Reagan; four daughters, Paula McDowell of Moline, ILL., Pat Delaney of Little Rock, Bobbie Beckler of Ducktown, Tenn. and Marty Stewart of Slidell, La.; a sister, Mrs. C. J. Sharpe of Russellville; eight grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

Reber, Helen Louise

Helen Louise Reber, age 79, of Belleville, AR died Thursday, February 19, 2004 at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock, AR. She was born in Belleville, AR on November 19, 1924 daughter of the late Burl and Vera Harkness Bowden. She was a mother and homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Miles Duane Reber; two brothers, J. C. and Fred Bowden and a sister, Mary Kathryn Bowden.

She is survived by a son, Mark Reber of Phoenix, AZ; a granddaughter, Katie Ann Reber of Houston, TX and a sister-in-law, Retha Bowden of Belleville, AR.

Charles Louis Rector, 62, of Chickalah died Saturday in the Baptist Hospital in Little Rock. He was a native of Tennessee but had been a resident of Yell County for the past 50 years. He was a farmer in the Chickalah community.

Rector, Jack C.

Jack C. Rector, age 85, passed away May 26, 2003 in California. He was born December 18, 1917 in Harkey Valley, Yell County, Arkansas to Robert and Cora Rector. He worked on Spring Lake Dam in 1930s, served his country in the 1940s in WWII, was a 46 year Mason and was past Master.

Mr. Melvin Turner "Doc" Rector, age 90, of Dardanelle, AR died Saturday, February 21, 1998 at the Dardanelle Hospital. He was born June 2, 1907 in South Pittsburg, TN to the late Robert and Mary Crow Rector. He was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church and retired from the Yell County Road Department after 12 years.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline Morgan Rector; a son, Roy Rector of Dardanelle, AR; a daughter, Madge Carothers of Centerville, AR; a step-daughters, lean Morgan of Dardanelle; three brothers, Virgil and Jack Rector both of California and J. Rita Rector, age 57 of Dardanelle, AR died Saturday, October 6, 2001 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville, AR. She was born July 8, 1944 in Smyrna, TN to the late Everett and Julia F. Hill Parker. She was a retired nurse and a homemaker and mother.

Rector, Virgil (Jake)

Virgil (Jake) Rector, devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed peacefully from labor to rest on July 4, 2009 at the age of 89. He was born in Bellville, AR on April 8, 1920 to Robert and Cora Rector of Harkey's Valley, AR.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita (Hatch) Rector. They enjoyed 68 years of marriage. He will be missed by his two sons and their families, Gary, Meg and Ron and Jayne Rector, and five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

They left Arkansas for California in 1941 and returned in 1980 to build their retirement home next to Ozark National Forest. While in Arkansas, he was a volunteer firefighter and helped build schools in his hometown. They loved Arkansas, but missed their family in California, so in 1988, they moved back. Elsie Mae Reddell, age 85, a resident of Russellville, AR died Monday, June 26, 2000 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center at Russellville. She was born May 20, 1915 at Mt. Judea, AR to Tom and Ella Guthrie Hefley. She was a homemaker and the widow of the late Mitchel Reddell. She was a member of the Oakland Heights Assembly of God Church. She was also preceded in death by, her parents, 10 brothers and sisters and three grandchildren.

Reddin, Rufus Randolph

Rufus Randolph Reddin, age 70, of Danville, died Sunday, November 22 at St. Vincent Hospital in Little Rock. Mr. Reddin was a native of Banks, AR. The Son of the late Rev. A. D. Reddin and Bessie Briley Reddin. He is a retired from Arkansas Power and Light Co. having worked for AP&L for 35 years. Reddin was a member of the Danville Assembly of God Church and had served on the Beard of Deacons of that Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Faye Madden Reddin; three sons, Rev Ron Reddin of Sherwood Bradley T. Reddin & Shon A. Reddin both of Danville; 7 brothers, Martin Looney and Mrs. Teresa Hopkins both of Danville; seven brothers, Martin Reddin of Banks, Harold Reddin of Texas, Harvey Reddin of Camden, Douglas Reddin of Louisiana, Lyrad Reddin of London, England, Briley R. Redfern, Jack E.

Jack E. Redfern, age 59, of Little Rock, AR died Monday, December 18, 2000 at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock, AR. He was born July 11, 1941 in Norfolk, VA to the late Edward D. and Mary Francis Redfern. He was the Staff Manager of Regulatory Affairs for Alltel Communications in Little Rock, AR. He served as Alderman for the City of Danville from 1971 to 1973 and as Mayor from 1972 to 1974. He was a past president of the Danville Lions Club, the Danville Jaycees and the past treasurer of the Danville United Methodist Church. He was a member and past president of the Board of Directors of the Arkansas Telecommunication Association (ATA). He was a current member of the Executive Committee and a Chairman of the ATA Legislative Committee. He was appointed by Governor Huckabee to the Arkansas Deaf and Hearing Impaired Telecommunications Service Board of Directors where he served as Vice-president. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Little Rock.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Anna Virginia Redfern and a niece, Mary Elizabeth May nor.

He is survived by, his wife, Barbara Sivley Redfern; three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Lauren Redfern of Danville, AR; Wayne and Angela Redfern of Austin, TX, Jack E. Redfern, Jr. of Danville, AR and Leslie Redfern of Brownwood, TX; two stepsons and daughter-in-law, Philip and Christie Alexander of Danville, AR and Tony Alexander of Russellville, AR; one sister and brother-in-law, Martha Ann and Bill Gentry of El Dorado, AR; eight grandchildren, Jenny, Clay, Spencer and Nicholas Redfern all of Danville, AR; Cody and Christa Redfern of Austin, TX, Danielle Badillo and Anna Redfern of Brownwood, TX; a niece, a great-nephew and niece.

Mrs. Palestine Redman, age 35 years, departed this life March 2, 1955, at her home in Belleville following an extended illness. Mrs. Redman was born February 5, 1870 in this community and a daughter of the late Nobel J. Buckman and Nancy Heck Buckman.

Redwine, James Leroy

James Leroy Redwine- After a lingering illness, James Leroy Redwine passed away at his home in St. Joseph, La. on February 2, 1954. Mr. Redwine was born in Pope County, Arkansas, March 22, 1888; he married Miss Ila Mae Reeves on September 24, 1910. They lived in Yell County, Arkansas until 1929, at which time they moved to Louisiana, and settled in Tensas Parish. Dwight Walton Reece, age 20, of Malvern, AR died March 30, 2009. He was born October 27, 1988, the son of Doyle W. and Debra L. Reece.

He is survived by his parents; brothers, Doyle E. Reece, Cody W. Reece, and Eric Roberts; sisters, Rachel L. Atkinson, Tanya M. Atkinson, and Amy Hathcox; grandmother, Katie M. Reece.

Ila Mae Reece, 84, of Hot Springs, AR died Thursday, November 13, 1997 in a local hospital. She was born May 28, 1913, she was a member of Hot Springs Baptist Church, Hot Springs Baptist Super Senior and Shirley Jackson Circle She attend Arkansas Tech University, helped start and taught at Second Baptist School and taught at Valley Elementary School in Royal.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J. C. Reece.

Survivors include a daughter, Janie Russell of Hot Springs; three sisters, Esther Hunnicutt of Hot Springs, Atria Dell Hedden of Russellville and Johnnye Sciffers of Marion; a grandson, Andrew Paxton Russell of Hot Springs; nieces and nephews.

O'Neil Reece, age 67, of Route 1, Danville, died Sunday, March 24, 1985, at St. Mary's Hospital. He was a veteran of World War II and was a retired employee of the Arkansas Highway Department.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Jessie Mae Sheets Reece; three sons, Lowell Wayne Reece and Clifton O'Neil Reece of Mount George, and Floyd Eugene Reece of Ola; a daughter, Shirley Gooch of Centerville; two brothers, S. Carl Reed, age 77 of Plainview, died early Monday, July 1, 1991, at his home. He was a native of Steve, AR, the son of the late James and Mary Brannom Reed. He was a retired truck driver and a Mason.

Rev. Jesse S. Reed, age 88, of Little Rock, AR died Thursday, January 8, 2004. He was a native of Aly, Yell County, AR, where he was one of eleven children born to J. M. and Hattie Reed. He graduated from Dumas High School and Ouachita Baptist College and received his theological education in 1945 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, TX. He has pastored at First Baptist Church, Wylie, TX; Perla, Cedar Glades, Buckville, Story, Harvey's Chapel near Hot Springs, Park Place, Hot Springs and Second Church, El Dorado, all in Arkansas. In 1954 he became the state evangelist for the Ark. Baptist State Convention. During his seven years as State evangelist, he worked largely with smaller, more rural churches. He preached approximately 2, 600 times and welcome 1, 565 persons who publicly accepted Christ as their Savior. He was an "outdoor" person and his interests included hunting, fishing, bee-keeping and gardening. In 1983 he wrote and published First Fruits, a book dedicated to spreading the word of the Lord Jesus Christ.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Imogene Lacy Reed; two sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Janet Reed of Memphis, TN and David and Susan Reed of Bennettsville, SC; two brothers, Carl Reed of Dumas, AR and Bill Reed of McGehee, AR; a sister, Lena Wehunt of Perry, GA; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Reverend Jesse S. Reed, age 88, of Little Rock died Thursday, January 8, 2004. A native of Aly, Yell County, Ark. where he was one of 11 children born to J. M. and Hattie Reed. Reverend Reed graduated from Dumas (Arkansas) High School and Ouachita Baptist College before receiving his theological education in 1945 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. Brother Reed's pastorates included First Baptist Church, Wylie, Texas, and the following churches in Arkansas Perla, Cedar Glades, Buckville, Story, Harvey's Chapel near Hot Springs, Park Place, Hot Springs and Second Church, El Dorado. In 1954, Reverend Reed became the state evangelist for the Arkansas Baptist State Convention. During his nearly seven years as State evangelist, working largely with smaller, more rural churches, Reed preached approximately 2, 600 times; and welcomed 1, 565 persons who publicly accepted Christ as Savior. Jesse was an outdoor person, and his interests included hunting (with his lifelong friends, grandsons, and squirrel dogs) fishing, bee-keeping and gardening -which allowed him to supply family and friends with an abundant supply of fresh fruits and vegetables. In 1983, he wrote and published First Fruits, a book dedicated to spreading the word of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Imogene Lacy Reed; two sons, Douglas Reed and his wife, Janet, of Memphis, Tenn. and David Reed and his wife, Susan, of Bennettsville, S. C.; brothers, Carl Reed of Dumas and Bill Reed of McGehee; sister, Lena Wehunt of Perry, Ga.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be 12 noon Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at Parkway Place Baptist Church in Little Rock. Interment will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Hot Springs. Arrangements are by Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, (224-8300). The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p. m. Friday at the funeral home.
