Waid, Marge Modine

LITTLE MADGE WAID AT REST On Thursday night, February 11, 1926, the "Death Angel" visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Waid at Chickalah and took from them their precious five-year-old daughter, Madge. Little Madge was a sweet, lovable child. She was of a friendly disposition and to know her was to love her. Father and mother, weep not. We know it is hard to part with this little one, but we know she has gone to the Great Beyond where parting and sorrow never come. May we all live in this world so that when the trumpet is sounded we can meet little Madge in the better world.

She is survived by her father and mother, a grandmother, Mrs. Lucy Waid, and a host of other relatives to mourn her.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. Worthington. Interment was made in Johnson cemetery, the remains being followed to their last resting place by a great throng of sorrowing friends. All of the relatives have our deepest sympathy, but especially the heart broken father and mother. "One precious to our hearts has gone; the voice we loved is stilled; a place is vacant in our home that never can be filled."

Their friend, Wilma Campbell ~~~ CALLED HOME Little Madge Modine, the five year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Waid, of Chickalah, was burned to death last Thursday, February 11th, 1926. All that kind and loving hands could do was done for the little one, but God knew best and called her home. Madge was born June 13, 1920. she was a perfect little sunbeam in the lives of the family and many others. She was a lovable child and was so friendly that she readily made friends with everyone. To know her was to love her. We know it is hard for those who loved her so well to see her so suddenly snatched from life, just like extinguishing a bright light. But surely God loved her better than we. He called her home to be with Him around the great white throne. There she will join the angel chorus and make Heaven a brighter and happier place. Oh, father and mother, and other relatives, think not of little Madge as you saw her last on earth, but as an angel clad in a spotless robe of white, with her sweet face o'ershadowed with angel wings, singing and playing around the throne. There can be no doubt in our minds as to her home, for we know our Master said we cannot enter the kingdom of heaven unless we become as a little child. Madge is survived by her father and mother, two brothers, Ethridge and Raymond, a grandmother, Mrs. Lucy Waid, and a host of other relatives to mourn her loss. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Worthington. Interment was in Johnson Cemetery. To all the relatives we extend our sympathy, but especially are we sorry for the father, mother, grandmother and aunt, Miss Bessie Waid. May God strengthen and help them in their time of trouble. Walker, Jackie Allen

Six Year-Old Danville Boy Killed Saturday By Electric Wire - Jackie Allen Walker, 6, was killed Saturday morning when he became entangled in an electric wire strung around a flower bed in Danville. Details of how the accident happened are not known since he was alone and was not discovered until from 10 to 30 minutes later. He had been playing on the back porch of Aubrey Cowger's home, across the street from his home, with Mary Dean Cowger and his cousin. Earlier in the morning Jackie's dog had been shocked by the wire, which was around a flower bed in Cowger's yard. He had wanted to touch the wire then to see what it would do but had been kept from doing so by the other children. He left to go home, but instead of going straight home, apparently went by to touch the wire. When the two girls started over to the Walker home from 10 to 30 minutes later, they found his body lying face down with his chest across the wire. Mary Dean called to her 13-year-old brother, Lamar, and reached out to touch Jackie and received a shock. Lamar told them to keep away until he could unplug the wire and he immediately started giving artificial respiration. His Boy Scout training probably prevented the other two children from being electrocuted, and had Jackie been found sooner, it might have save his life. Jackie was taken to Dr. Harris office, where efforts to revive him through artificial respiration were carried on for two hours to no avail. Mr. Cowger said he had placed the 110 volt wire around the flower bed to keep dogs away and he said he didn t believe it was capable of causing injury, much less death, to any human who touched it. He said several children had received slight shocks from the wire before and that he had touched it himself several times and received only a slight shock. Arkansas Power and Light Co. employees who investigated said the boy probably received the fatal shock because he was barefooted and because the ground was wet, causing a solid grounding of the hot wire.

Jackie is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Walker of Danville; a sister, Judy Kay of Danville; a half-sister, Sonya of Guadalupe, Calif; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Boyce of Danville.
