Hawkins, Charles Charlie Clinton

Charles Charlie Clinton Hawkins, age 90, of DUMAS, a retired farmer, died Sunday. (10-2-1985) Hawkins was a member of First Assembly of God Church.

Funeral will be at 2 p. m. today at Griffin Funeral Home. Burial will be in Dark Corner Cemetery.

Survivors are two sons, Billy Fred Hawkins of Coos Bay, Ore. and Eldridge C. Hawkins of Dumas; three daughters, Mrs. Estelle Brewer of Dumas, Mrs. Lydia Belle Brewer of Star City and Mrs. Lillia Potter of Houston, Texas; two brothers, Earl Hawkins and George Hawkins, both of Bluffton; a sister Mrs. Ada Magness of Bluffton; 27 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren. George Franklin Hawkins, 89, a resident of Plainview, died December 22 in a Little Rock hospital. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Methodist Church.

Hawkins, Grover Charles

Grover Charles Hawkins, aged 74, of Pine Bluff, formerly of Yell County, died Sunday. He was a retired farmer, a Methodist, and a veteran of World War I.

Survivors include a brother, George C. Hawkins of Texas.

lline Hawkins, 66, died June 4 at the Yell County Hospital. She was formerly of Mississippi and has been living in the Mitchell Nursing Home.

Hawkins, Louene (Lackey)

Private family graveside services were held for Billy "Pete" Hawkins, 86, and Louene Hawkins, 85, both of Coos Bay, Oregon, at Ocean View Memory Gardens Cemetery in Coos Bay, Oregon. The family plans to have a celebration of life at a later date. Pete was born November 21, 1929 in Bluffton, Arkansas to Charley and Lydia Hawkins. He passed away June 14, 2016 in Coos Bay, Oregon. Louene was born June 13, 1931, in Gravelly, Ark., to Arvil and Pearl Lackey. She passed away April 25, 2017 in Coos Bay, Oregon. Pete and Louene went to Fourche Valley High School in Briggsville, Arkansas, where they met. They were married on March 19, 1949 at Bluffton, Arkansas. Pete served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was an expert marksman and went to Hawaii and Japan. In 1961 he moved the family to Coos Bay, Oregon, where he worked for Weyerhaueser Sawmill for 25 years and retired a Foreman. He loved all sports and playing poker, but most of all he loved his family. He would do anything he could for them. Louene was also devoted to her four children and helped raise multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren. "Lou" was known for her delicious southern cooking, home canning, pie baking and her incredibly beautiful flower gardens. She loved music, dancing and trips to Reno.

Pete and Louene are survived by their children, Marian and Frank Widdifield, Jeannie Mallgren, Craig and Tami Hawkins; grandchildren, Brandi Philley, Misty Hudson, Christine and Franklin Widdifield; great-grandchildren, Makayla, Trystin, Angeliah and MacKenzie. Hawkins, Meda Bittle Aunt Bud

Mrs. Meda Bittle Aunt Bud Hawkins, age 83, of Rover, died Friday, June 30, 1989 at AMI St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville. She was a native of Nimrod, AR, and was a daughter of the late George Thomas Bittle and the late Ida Dawson Bittle. She was a member of the Danville Senior Citizens and she was a Baptist.

She is survived by one sister, Hazel Sanders of Danville; a sister-in-law, Mazell Bittle of Rover; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Ollen Hawkins, age 82, of Plainview, AR died Saturday, October 16, 1999 at Legacy Lodge Nursing Center in Russellville. A son of the late Horace Cleveland (Cieve) and Maudie Taylor Hawkins, he was born May 16, 1917 at Plainview. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Irene Crites Hawkins of Plainview; two sons, Ray and Gary Hawkins and two daughters, Sharon Mclntosh and Carolyn Scott all of Plainview, AR; eight grandchildren and three great-grandsons.

Funeral service will be today, Wednesday at 10 AM at the Salem Church in Plainview with Stacy Lisenbey officiating. Hawkins, Tressie Keys

Tressie Keys Hawkins, age 81, of Jones Mill passed away June 3, 2004 at her home. She was born June 4, 1922 in Wing, Arkansas the daughter of Monroe Alzono and Cora Ann (Spears) Keys. She attended Fourche Valley School in Yell County and had worked for General Motors and was the owner of Tressie's Beauty Salon at Jones Mill for fifty years. She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church at Magnet Cove and loved working with flowers, quilting, taking care of other people, and most of all loved her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Hawkins, two grandsons, Robert Earl Dixon and Brian Dixon, three brothers and a sister.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Ann and husband Charles Dixon of Malvern, Kay and husband Jerry Clark of Helena, one grandson, Doug Dixon of Melbourne, granddaughter, Samantha Clark of Helena, two great grandsons, Robbie Dixon of Malvern, Dylan Dixon of Melbourne, two sisters, Dealy Corder of Hot Springs, Blanche Jordan of Malvern, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Berl Gene Clinton Hawks, age 63, a resident of Hollis, AR died Sunday, June 13, 1999 at National Park Med. Center at Hot Springs, AR. He was born on August 7, 1935 at Hollis, AR to Loyd and Gulelma Crain Hawks. He married Connie Cockman Hawks on December 21, 1956 at Jessieville, AR. He worked in the timber industry and owned and operated a saw mill and logging company. He was a member of the Valley Home Missionary Baptist Church in Hollis.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Emma Louise Hayes, age 60 of Wilton, AR died Wednesday, September 18, 2002 at Little River Memorial Hospital in Ashdown. She was born July 19, 1942 in Havana, AR. She was a production worker and a member of the Davis Chapel AME Methodist Church in Wilton.

She was preceded in death by her step father, Amos Wise.

She is survived by her mother, Hazel Guinn Wise of Wilton; father and step mother, Arthur and Rachel Hayes of Kansas City, KS; three daughters and son-in-law, Cynthia Gilkey of Wilton, Angela and Leroy Allen of Kansas City, KS and Gwendolyn Gilkey of Atlanta, GA; two step sons, Jason Gilkey of Ft. Adolph "A" Arthur Hays, 81, or Topeka, died Friday, March 25, 2004 at a local care facility. He was a hod carrier and bricklayer for the MGM J. E. Dunn Construction Companies in Kansas City before his retirement. He was born on July 28, 1922 in Havana, AR, the son of Will and Savanah Surratt Hays. He lived in Havana, AR from 1986 to 2000 when he moved to Topeka. He was a member of the CME Methodist Church and the Kansas City Missouri Masonic. He graduated from Harris Chapel AME Church and School. He served in the United States Army during WWII. He married Rachel Esther Dominguez on April 18, 1976 in Kansas City, KS.

Survivors include his wife, Rachel Dominguez; five sons, Leonard B. & Marion U. Hays of KCK, Sheldon A. Hays, stationed in Iraq, Anthony A. Hays of Ola, AR, Steven Graves, address unknown; six daughters, Pamela Y. Mrs. Anna Gertrude Hunt Hays, age 86, widow of James L. Hays and a native of Yell County, died Sunday, October 7, 1984 at the Pioneer Nursing Home at Seminole, Okla. where she had lived for four years. She previously resided at Lyon, Miss. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Seminole.

Survivors include three sons, Fair Hays of Clarksdale, the Rev. James L. Hays Jr. of Tuttle, Okla. and Bob Hays of Lyon, Miss.; two daughters, Mrs. Chalon Meadows and Mrs. Ruby Reese both of Seminole; 13 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Hays, Cecil

Services held at Magazine for Sailor Killed on Guam. Funeral service were held at the Methodist church, at Magazine Tuesday, March 16, for Cecil Hays son of Perse and Alice Hays (deceased) who was killed on Guam January 24 of this year. He was born at Riley in Yell County and moved to Magazine in 1913. He had served in the U. S. Navy for the past 19 years. Military services were conducted by a navy Detachment from the naval Ammunition Depot at McAlester, Oklahoma. Ministers conducting services were Rev. L. M. Ruble, pastor, Rev. L. A. Thompson and Rev. C. H. McNutt. Burial was in the Moore's Chapel cemetery.

He is survived by three brothers, Col. C. A. Hays, Ft. Worth, Texas, Earnest Hays, Chattanooga, Tenn. and Herbert Hays, Springfield, Missouri; and two sisters, Capt. Hays, Junietta Sophire

Mrs. Junietta Sophire Hays, aged 97, a lifelong resident of Belleville, died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Phoebe Apple, in Belleville Friday morning. Mrs. Hays was a daughter of N. J. and Nancy Buckman, who were also natives of Yell County. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church.

Survivors, other than Mrs. Apple, are two other daughters, Mrs. Barbara Warren of Newellton, La. and Mrs. Nancy Gates of San Diego, Calif. one son, Noble Hays of Seminole, Okla. 16 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Hays, Lawrence Roscoe

Lawrence Roscoe Hays, Jr., age 75 of Danville, AR died Sunday, December 17, 2000 at Chambers Memorial Hospital. He was born September 20, 1925, he was the son of the late Lawrence Roscoe and Elva Mae Farmer Hays, a retired heavy equipment operator and a 54-year member of Wilson Free Will Baptist Church, where he had served as deacon for 27 years. He was a 32nd degree Mason, an Army Veteran of World War II and a member of Danville Masonic Lodge and Dardanelle Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include his wife, Robbie Crowley Hays; a brother Leonard Hays of Little Rock; a sister, Jean Sory of Bryant, AR; his mother-in-law, Zell Kennon of the home; a sister-in-law, Betty Prince of Pensacola, FL; his caregiver, Mary Lee Carpenter of Havana, AR; five nephews and four nieces.

Funeral was December 1, 2000 at Wilson Free Will Baptist Church by the Rev. Dale Underwood and Rev. Jimmy Bundy. Burial with Masonic Rites was in the Russell Cemetery at Belleville by Cornwell Funeral Home of Danville, AR. Pallbearers were nephews Harold Hays, Dr. David Hays, Kenny Sory, John McCown Mitchell McCown and Stanley Cobb. Mrs. Rosa Hays, age 71, died at the Yell County Hospital on December 6, 1956. She was born in Van Buren County and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Cross. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Hays, Steele

Steele Hays, age 87, a pioneer Pope County attorney and father of Former Congressman Brooks Hays, died at his home in Russellville Saturday. A practicing attorney in Pope County for nearly 60 years, Mr. Hays served as 5th district prosecuting attorney from 1913 to 1917. He also had served as a special chancellor and a special circuit judge. He was a member of the Arkansas Bar Association and the American Bar Association, was a Baptist and a 32nd degree Mason.

Hayward, Florence

Florence Hayward, age 75 of Dover, died Monday, October 27, 2003 at St. Anthony's Hospital in Morrilton. She was born in Carden Bottoms on December 12, 1927, daughter of the late William and Ida Patterson West. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Sophia Tillman, and Shelby Hay ward; two brothers, James West and Hardy West; two sisters, Mary Farris and Media Moore.

Haywood, Carmon C.

DARDANELLE, August 10, 1950 Yell County's first Korean War casualty and the seventeen . reported killed in action was Pvt. Carmon C. Haywood, age 17, of Rover. Private Haywood, was killed July 23, according to Information received by his father, William L. Haywood of Rover. Young Haywood enlisted last March and was stationed at Fort; Riley, Kansas for training. He sailed for Korea June 23.

Other survivors include a sister, Mrs. Janice Brasher of Richmond, Cal.; one brother, J. T. Haywood of Arlington, Tex. and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W, Haywood of Rover.

Michael Austin Hazel, infant son of Larry Michael and Annalea Kell Hazel of Little Rock, AR, became a Heavenly Angel on Sunday, August 17, 1997.

Peggy Joyce Coates Hazel, age 77, of Plainview passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014 at her home. She was born March 12, 1937 at Little Rock, Arkansas to the late George Cecil & Verdie Virginia Treadway Coates.

She was preceded in death by her parents as well as grandson Michael Austin Hazel. Peggy graduated from Central High School in 1955 and married William Thurston Hazel, on June 2, 1956. She worked for H&T Construction from 1969 to 1992; Reliable Life Insurance Company from 1965 to 1988; PJs Market from 1988 to 1992; Kroger from 1992 until she retired in 2003 and UAMS from 2003 until she retired again in 2005. Finally, Peggy decided it was time to honor her "retirements" and enjoy life.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years William Thurston Hazel; three sons, Randy Hazel of Little Rock; Kenneth Hazel (Jennifer) of Allen, TX; Larry Hazel (Bobbie) of Houston, AR; one daughter Lisa Gay (Chester) of Plainview; 7grandchildren Courtney Gay and fiancee Shawn Ramsey of Little Rock; Logan Gay of Plainview; Spencer Gay of Star City; Magan Hazel and Connor Hazel of Little Rock; Scarlett Hazel of Allen Texas; and one great-grandchild Ryder Gay of Plainview; sister Patricia Simpson of Dallas Texas one niece Nancy Simpson of Dallas, Texas and a hosts of cousins and friends.

Graveside service was held 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2014 at Carter Cove Cemetery with Bro Joe Yates officiating. Visitation was 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday May 11, at the funeral home. Thurston Randall "Randy" Hazel, age 58, of Little Rock passed away Thursday, October 21, 2016, at Arkansas Heart Hospital. He was born March 2, 1958, in Little Rock, Arkansas to the late William Thurston & Peggy Joyce Coates Hazel. He was a carpenter, attended Pulaski Heights Baptist Church, enjoyed fishing, also raced 1-30 speedway in the Gray Ghost.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. William Thurston Hazel, age 76, of Plainview passed away Sunday, December 14, 2014 at St. Vincents Infirmary in Little Rock. He was born September 20, 1938 in Conway, Arkansas to the late George William & Irene Zora Richards Hazel Jr. Thurston attended Conway High School, married Peggy Joyce Coates on June 2, 1956. He owned and operated H & T construction in Little Rock from 1962 to 1992. After retirement he & his wife moved to Carter Cove where he enjoyed fishing on Nimrod Lake.

He was preceded in death by his wife Peggy Hazel; parents; grandson Michael Austin Hazel; three brothers and one sister.

Survivors include daughter, Lisa Gay & husband Chester of Plainview; sons, Randy Hazel of Little Rock; Kenneth Hazel & wife Jennifer of Allen TX; Larry Hazel & fianc Bobbie Rush of Houston, AR; grandchildren, Courtney & Shawn Ramsey of Little Rock; Logan Gay of Plainview; Spencer Gay & fianc Hannah Dreher of Star City; Magan Hazel of Little Rock; Conner Hazel of Hot Springs; and great-grandson, Ryder Gay of Plainview.

Head, Ben Ona

Ben Ona Head, born January 20, 1881 to Mr. and Mrs. George Head, Montgomery Co. and departed this life, April 13, 1949. He was married to Miss Rosa Stafford in 1903 and to this union was born three children. His wife and one child preceded him in death many years ago. Mr. Head was married to Miss Hettie Reeves in 1917 and they were blessed with four children. He was a pioneer settler of the Lower Spring Creek community and spent his life there.

He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Flora Standifer, Sulphur, Okla. Mrs. Estelle Water, Bell, Calif., Mrs. Winona Lassiter, Belleville, and Mrs. Romona Haire, Madera, Calif.; two sons, Doyle Head, Los Angeles, Calif. and Boyd Head, Huntington Park, California; two sisters, Mrs. Lillie Julian and Mrs. Jimmie Bishop, Wichita, Kans.; one brother, John Head, Holdenville, Okla. one grandchild, two great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
