Harkey, Mr. Opal N.

Mr. Opal N. Harkey, 58, Western Arkansas merchant for more than 35 years, died at his home following a heart attack January 9. He was a native of Ola, Yell County, and lived in that town until he moved to Plainview. He entered business with his brothers at Ola in 1905 and in 1914 opened a store at Plainview, and operated it until last month, when he moved it to Conway. He also operated a store at Dardanelle from 1937 until he moved it to Conway with the Plainview stock to open the Outlet store there. He and Mrs. Harkey also established a woman's ready-to-wear store at Conway. Mr. Harkey founded and served as first president of the Farmers State bank of Plainview, which later was consolidated with the Bank of Plainview. He was married August 4, 1915, to Miss Leah Willson at Ola, who survives, as also does a daughter, Miss Virginia Harkey, in Hendrix College; a son, James Willson Harkey, Conway High School student; three brothers, O. J., Ola; Roscoe, Dardanelle; and J. M. Harkey, Los Angeles, Calif., and four sisters, Mrs. Walter D. Jacoway, Little Rock, Mrs. K. A. Norman, and Mrs. R. T. Barrett, Ola, and Mrs. Thomas Boyers, Dardanelle.

Harkey, Nellie Jane (Cox)

Mrs. Jane Harkey, age 93, of Coleman, died Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 20 in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. She was born Nellie Jane Cox on December 21, 1918 in Winters, Texas, a daughter of Porter Cox and Nellie Spence Cox. She grew up in Winters and graduated from high school there. She attended business college in Abilene.

On December 2, 1939 she married James Ward Harkey in San Saba and he preceded her in death on May 14, 2012. After their marriage, Jane and Ward lived in Coleman and moved to Abilene in 1972. While living in Abilene, Jane was a clerk for Gibson's. They returned to Coleman County in 1989 and lived on the Hudson Ranch and later moved to Coleman and finally, to Holiday Hill Nursing Home, three years ago. She was a devoted member of North Coleman Baptist Church.

Survivors include her two sons, Donald E. Harkey and wife Sandra of Abilene, Terry Harkey and wife Carolyn of Monahans; 10 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren, a special niece, Mrs. Sybil Van Zandt of Buffalo Gap. She was preceded in death by her husband this past Monday, her daughter, Betty Jo Morganweck on March 2, 1999; a great-grandson, Zackery Wayne Rankin on September 2, 1986; four brothers, Clarence Cox, Elmer Cox, Pete Cox and Jake Cox. Harkey, Nora D.

Nora D. HARKEY, age 101, passed away January. 5, 1988. Born Oct. 17, 1886 in Indian Territory near Durant. She came to OKC in 1911 when she married Henry E. Harkey who preceded her in death in 1938. To this union three children were born, Thelma L. North of Richmond, Va., Paul H. Harkey of OKC and Sgt. Gene E. Harkey who was killed while in service in WWII.

She is survived by 2 sisters, Mable M. Speeple of OKC and Eudah B. Askins of Weatherford; also 4 grandchildren, Gene Paul Harkey of Harrah, Donald Edward Harkey of Hurst, Tx., Karen Gay Hurst of Astoria, N.Y. and Sharon Kay Champion of Houston, Tx.; 4 great grandchildren and many very loved nieces and nephews.

She maintained her own home in OKC until she was 92 years old, when she became a resident of the Western Oaks Health Center in OKC. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Harkey, Osbern

Osbern Harkey, age 86, a resident of Russellville, AR, formally of Plainview, AR, died Saturday, March 23, 2002 at the Stella Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born June 26, 1915 at Belleville, AR a son of the late Moses Isaiah and Rosetta Tucker Harkey. He married Miss Lydia Jane Home on July 7, 1947, was an appliance repairman for numerous years and was a charter member of the Plainview Free Will Baptist Church, where he has served as Deacon, Sunday school teacher, Secretary-Treasurer and Superintendent. He was an Army Infantry Division Veteran of WWII and was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service in Germany from October 27, 1944 to March 15, 1945, in connection with military operations against the enemy. The citation read "As a truck driver, Technician Fifth Grade Harkey, despite the harassing enemy fire, unhesitatingly drove daily to forward exposed areas to replenish the company's supply of food, water and vital ammunition, his enthusiasm and ability to work long hours without rest, insured the quick delivery of vital successful operations of his company.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Doyle Harkey; a sister, Dottie Adair; and a brother, Walter E. Harkey.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Lydia Jane Harkey of Russellville; a daughter and son-in-law, Dianna & Michael Norton of Russellville, AR and other relatives and friends.

Funeral service was March 25, 2002 at the Plainview Free Will Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Terry Latham and Rev. David Williams. Burial was in the Salem Cemetery at Plainview under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville. Harkey, Riley Clayton

SAN SABA - Riley Harkey, 72, local pecan grower, died Thursday, July 10, 1997, at his residence in San Saba.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at the First Baptist Church, 208 W. Wallace, with the Rev. Jack Riley, the Rev. Keith Robertson and the Rev. James Reid officiating. Interment will follow in the San Saba City Cemetery. Arrangements are by Howell-Doran Funeral Home. Mr. Harkey was born March 18, 1925, in San Saba, the son of Olga Bryan and Bernice Baxter Harkey, whose families were pioneers to San Saba County with the Harkeys settling in the county in the early 1850s. Mr. Harkey was serving as president of the San Saba Pecan Growers Association at the time of his death. He loved his occupation of growing good quality pecans. He was a director in the Property Owners Association. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church, San Saba, and attended the Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class. He married Bonnie Sawyer Compton on April 26, 1963, in Waco.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; son and daughter-in-law, John and Donna Harkey of Hurst; son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Kami Harkey of Marble Falls; daughter and son-in-law, Connie and James Ballinger of San Saba; his grandchildren, Leah and John Harkey of Arlington, Cambria Lyn Harkey of Athens, Ga., Carl Wayne Pressley of San Saba and Jessica Harkey of Oklahoma; sisters-in-law, Joyce Kimbrough of Valley Mills and Wilma Cook of Waco; brother-in-law, Ralph Sawyer of Temple; several cousins and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Eric Harkey. Pallbearers will be Billy Davidson, John R. Harkey, Rosco

Former Resident Found Dead Near Aplin -- The body of Rosco Harkey, 77, retired banker who had been missing from his home at Little Rock since August 17, was found Saturday in a wooded area near Aplin in Perry County. He had apparently suffered a heart attack after his car became stuck on a logging road. Harkey was a former president of the Bank of Dardanelle.

Harkey, Vera (West)

Vera Harkey, daughter of the late Marcus P. West and Armentie Curtis West, was born July 4th 1915, in Bellville, Ark., and departed this life Saturday, January 10th, 2015 at the age of 99 years, 6 months and 7 days. Vera and Aaron Harkey, lifelong residents of Belleville, were married on April 23rd, 1932.

Aaron preceded her in death on June 24th, 2003. She was also preceded in death by two dear brothers and a sister, Vestal West, James West and Prue Bowie.

Survivors include daughter, Betty Bowie, of Magnolia, TX; three grandchildren, Amanda Heldt and husband Randall, of Magnolia, Candy Casto, of Houston and Cindy Bowie, of Houston; one great-grandchild, Kyle Casto (serving in the Navy abroad), other relatives and many friends.

Visitation was from 5 to 6 p.m., Tuesday, January 13th, at Cornwell Funeral Home in Danville. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, January 14th, at Upper Spring Creek Church with Rev. Dick Elbert Harkless, age 76 of Dover, died Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at Dardanelle Nursing Center. He was born June 11, 1929 at Ottumwa, IA to the late Fred Albert and Alice Bell Higdon Harkless. He was a 32 Degree Mason with the Boulder City Lodge 037 in Las Vegas, NV.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Madge Cochron Harkless; parents and a brother, Paul Harkless.

Billy F. Harkness, 84, of North Little Rock passed away unexpectedly Sunday, December 29th, 2013. He was born in Belleville, Arkansas [13 September 1929] to the late Clyde and Nellie Bowden Harkness. He was an Army veteran.

Mrs. Jerry Nell Harkness, age 68, of Belleville, AR died Saturday, February 21, 1998 at St. Edwards Hospital in Fort Smith. She was born in Danville, AR June 2, 1929, daughter of the late, Leo Hulse and Audrey Poley Gault. She was a retired Rural Route Mail Carrier, she was a member of the Belleville United Methodist Church. She was the widow of John Robert "Bob" Harkness, Jr. and was also preceded in death by an infant brother, M. T. Gault.

She is survived by a son, Bob Harkness of Conway; a daughter, Caron Hays of Springdale, AR; a brother, John Gault of Danville; a sister, Mary Frazier of Fort Smith, AR; two granddaughters, Michelle Stane of Greenbrier and Karen Michele Hays of Springdale; a grandson, Zachard Hays of Springdale and two great grandchildren, Megan and Nicholas Stane of Greenbrier.

Harkness, John R. "Bob"

John (Bob) Harkness Jr., age 63 of Belleville, died Monday, April 16th at the St. Mary's Hospital in Russellville. He was a native of Belleville, son of the late John R. Harkness and Sue Bowden Harkness. He was a retired postmaster, and had served in that capacity for 37 years, including Post Offices in Danville and Belleville. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Belleville United Methodist Church and a Mason.

Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Jerry Gault Harkness of the home; one son, Robert G. Harkness of Conway; one daughter, Mrs. Caron Hays of Sterlington, LA. Also three grandchildren.

Harlan, Buford M. "BM", Jr.

Buford M. (BM) Harlan Jr., age 98, of Danville passed away Monday, December 27, 2010 at Chambers Memorial Hospital. He was born April 21, 1912 in Humphrey, AR. to the late Buford M. SR. and Mable Harlan. He was a graduate from Stuttgart High School and attended Arkansas Tech University. He worked for the USDA Soil Conservation as an engineer, retiring in 1968. He was a WW II US Army Veteran serving 5 years in the 47tn Army Engineering Division, where he laid out air strips on 5 of the Pacific Islands. Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maurie Gatlin whom he met and married when he moved to Danville in 1940. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, he loved to duck & turkey hunt. He was a runner, tennis player, he played tennis until he was 90 and could no longer see the ball. He was a community & school supporter and a member of Danville United Methodist Church.

Survivors include cousins, Don & Dorothy Harlan; Johnny Harlan all of Stuttgart, AR; Beverly & Dr. John Bacon of Nashville, TN; Van and Marie Harlan of Jacksonville, AR; friends, Bob Anderson; Ella McCool all of Rover; nieces, Linda Jacimore & family of Russellville; adopted grandchildren, James & Brittany McCool.

This Obituary was published 14 Jun 2001, Russellville, Pope County, Arkansas. Julius C. Harlow, Sr. DANVILLE -- Julius C. Harlow Sr., 70, of Ola died Tuesday, June 12, at Chambers Memorial Hospital. Born Nov. 23, 1930, at Ola, he was the son of the late Julius C. and Ellin Rhea Abernathy Harlow, a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, an Assemblies of God minister and a member of Ola Assembly of God. He retired after 30 years at General Dynamics at San Diego.

Harmon, Byrel Mae Jaggers

Mrs. Byrel Mae Jaggers Harmon, age 91, of Dardanelle, AR, widow of Bill Harmon, died Sunday, May 28, 2000 at the Dardanelle Nursing Center in Dardanelle, AR. She was born September 22, 1909 in Yell County, AR to the late Franklin G. and Covie Epperson Jaggers. She retired after 20 years as an LPN for the Dardanelle Hospital and then started her own business, Byrel's Dress Shop. She was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church in Dardanelle, the Dardanelle Order of Eastern Star and the Dardanelle Home Extension club.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jimmie L. Moll; three infant children; two brothers, Jack Jaggers and Carl Jaggers and two sisters, Idell Clark and Muriel Cartwright.

Survivors are, her daughter and sons-in-law, Covie and James Partin of Tulsa, OK and Joe Moll of Little Rock, AR; one sister, Dorothy Lang of Dardanelle, AR; six grandsons and wives, Justin Moll and Joey and Karen Moll all of Little Rock, AR, Carl and Cindy Partin, David and Dawn Partin all of Tulsa, OK, Mark and Christie Partin of Maypearl, TX, John and Tracie Partin of Owasso, OK; 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be today, Wednesday, May 31, 2000 at 11 a. m. at the Cornwell Funeral Home Chapel in Dardanelle. Interment will be in Brearley Cemetery by Cornwell Funeral Home of Dardanelle, AR. Harmon, Charley

Charley Harmon, a lifetime resident of Rover, passed away on September 14, 2003. He had spent the past few months in the Dardanelle Nursing Home. He was the son of the late Joseph and Nora Bell Gladden Harmon and a member of the Rover Baptist Church.

Edward Lionel Harmon, age 79, of Route 1, Danville, died Saturday, March 9, 1985 at Dardanelle Hospital. He was a retired farmer, son of the late Lonzo and Mattie Wood Harmon, and was a member of Gum Springs Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include a son, Keith Harmon of Poway, Calif.; two sisters, Ora Johnston of Dardanelle and Lillian Morris of Fort Smith; three granddaughters, and a great granddaughter.

Harmon, James E. "Jim"

James E. "Jim" Harmon, age 66, of Hector, AR died Wednesday, August 23, 2006, at his home. A son of the late Ted Harmon and Opal Hamilton Coffman, he was born November 29, 1939, in Muldrow, OK. He was of the Free Will Baptist faith, a retired United States Navy Veteran and was stationed throughout the world.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, N. Sue Harmon.

Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Roberson and family of California and Eric Roberson and family of Virginia; two daughters, Susan Roberson and family of Virginia, and Lisa Harmon of Arkansas; a brother, Troy Coffman and family of Hector; a sister, Mary Warren and family of Atkins; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Harmon, Loyd A.

Loyd A. Harmon, age 70, of Zion Hill died Wednesday, December 17, 1986 at Van Buren County Nursing Home at Clinton. He was a retired farmer, son of the late Schyler and Sara Ann Harmon, and was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Carrie Walker Harmon; three daughters, Fern Emerson of Clinton, Lavern Emerson of Cabot and Viva Phillips of Zion Hill; two sisters, Ola Davis of St. Joe and Azlee Shumate of Morrilton; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Harmon, Roy Franklin

Roy Franklin Harmon, age 83, of Upland, died March 4, 1988 at his home. A retired zanjero with Toga Water Co, he was a native of Rover, AR and an Upland resident 61 years. He was a member of the Eleventh Street Baptist Church of Upland.

He is survived by a son, Paul F. Tony Harmon of Upland; three sisters, Tressie Gillum of Ontario and Jodymae Cathey and Lola Thaxton, both of Arkansas; one brother, Charles of Arkansas and two grandchildren.

Harney, Ruby

Harp, Clarence H.

Clarence H. Harp, 96, a resident of Jacksonville since 1990, and formerly of Dardanelle, Arkansas and Canton, IL died early Friday morning, January 23, 2004, at the Barton W. Stone Christian Home in Jacksonville. He was born October 21, 1907, in Birta, Arkansas, the son of Charles Houston and Mylie Wilson Harp. He married Mary Cleddie Light, February 22, 1930, near Ola, Arkansas. He was a lifetime member of the Baptist faith and served as a Deacon for many years. He was currently a member of the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church. He was a Cost Reduction Engineer for International Harvester in Canton for twenty-seven years, retiring in 1967.

He is preceded in death by his wife; two brothers, Leroy and Charles Harp and three sisters, Clara Crozier, Bertha Gray and Daisy Harp.

He is survived by one daughter and one son, Mary Nell & Eugene Haggerty of Jacksonville and Harold Joe Beverly of Los Gatos, CA; one brother, James M. and Florence Harp of Canton; two sisters, Taletta Merritt and Dorothy Sinclair, both of Fayetteville, AR; seven grandchildren, Carolyn Haggerty, Cindy & Jamie Boydston, Jeff Lesa Haggerty, Jim Harp, David Harp, Laurie Taul and Lisa Nevil; and nine great grandchildren.

Funeral services were Monday at the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church in Jacksonville. Burial was in the Diamond Grove Cemetery in Jacksonville. Sharon Beth Harp age 57 of Oppelo died Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Baptist Health Medical Center. She was born August 5, 1956 at Danville to late Richard and Lois Bland Lane. She was of the Freewill Baptist Faith, she loved drawing, painting and doing crossword puzzles, reading books and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter, Kaylee Spivey and one sister, Selena Kitchens.

Survivors include her husband, Wendell Harp of Oppelo; three children, Ritchie Spivey of Oppelo, Vanessa Rogers and husband Casey of Morrilton, Kirk Harp and wife Julie of Texas; two brothers, Tommy Lane and wife Mary Nell, Larry Lane and wife Paulette all of Havana; one sister, Lana Davis and husband Ron of Morrilton; two grandchildren, Josh Harp of Texas, Destinee Spivey of Atkins.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, April 5, 2014 at the Wilson Freewill Baptist Church in Belleville with Rev. Charles King officiating. Harper, Gertie Mae (Atkinson)

Gertie Mae Harper, 95, of Booneville, passed away Friday, September 10, in Dardanelle. She was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse for St. Vincent's Infirmary in Little Rock. She was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Booneville, the Booneville Community Hospital Auxiliary and a member of the Sugar Grove Home Demonstration Club.

A funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Monday, September 13, at Roberts Memorial Chapel in Booneville with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery in Booneville, under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home of Booneville.

She is survived by a daughter, Bobbie Jean Harper Hopkins of Dardanelle; two sons, Ira Lee Harper of Ola and Leon A. Harper of Booneville; a cousin, Ralph "Jack" Brown of Ukiah, Calif.; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Danny Harper, Chris Harper, Mack Harper II, Timothy Harper, Tommy Harper, Shane Pearcy and Larry Chambers. Ira Mack Harper age 60 of Dardanelle died Thursday, November 20, 2014 at Arkansas Hospice River Valley Home. He was born September 18, 1954 at Galveston, Texas to Ira Lee and Louella Quinton Harper. He was a member of the Dardanelle Assembly of God church and was a United States Navy Veteran. He loved hunting, fishing and sports.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Louella Harper and a grandson, Justin Allen Johnson.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Harper of Dardanelle; his father, Ira Lee Harper of Dardanelle; children, Tina and Eric Campbell of Greenwood, Tony and Jana Harper of Conway, Tim and Ellen Harper of Russellville, Mack and Hali Harper of Russellville, Amanda and Jessie Poole of Tahlequah, OK, Chris and Shenna Harper of Dardanelle; sisters, Dorothy Harper of Dardanelle, Jackie Bowers of Dardanelle, Regina Gist of Ohio; twenty four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the Dardanelle Assembly of God Church.

Louella May "Quinton" Harper, age 79, of Dardanelle died Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at River Valley Medical Center. She was born May 29, 1934 at Logan County to the late John and Oscea Cooper Quinton. She was a member of the Dardanelle Faith Church, she loved to quilt, embroidery, garden, going fishing and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Ira Lee Harper of Dardanelle; four children, Mack Harper and wife Betty of Dardanelle, Dottie Harper of Dardanelle, Jackie Bowers and husband Randy of Dardanelle, Regina Gist Harper of Pottsville; one sister, Daisy Ray of Michigan; thirteen grandchildren; thirty one great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Graveside services were held Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Oakhill Cemetery in Booneville with Bro. Eric Martin officiating. Pallbearers will be William Bowers, Larry Chambers, Mack Harper Jr., Tony Harper, Timothy Harper, Christopher Harper. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dale Manes, Donald Judkins, Brent Elmore.
