Hall, Jack

Aaron Hall Kills His Brother At Bluffton Following a dispute over the settlement of a share crop, Aaron Hall, 30 years of age, killed his brother, Jack, aged 36, near Bluffton on Wednesday, October 7. The two brothers made a share crop the past season. Aaron Hall, who is suffering from dropsy, has been confined to his home for the past several months, and had become indebted to his brother, Jack. In an effort to collect the amount due him the elder brother attached Aaron's crop, together with his household effects, meat, flour, lard and other provisions. Although confined to his bed at the time the attachment papers were served, Aaron Hall got up and went to the home of a nearby neighbor where he procured a shot gun and went in search of his brother, "Jack," whom he found in the hay field. At sight of his brother, Jack Hall jumped from the hay rake which he was operating and started to run. He had gone but a few yards when Aaron fired, the charge of buck shot striking him in the back. After being shot he ran for about 100 yards and fell dead. A doctor was hastily summoned by parties who witnessed the tragedy, but death had followed within a minute or two after the shooting. After telling those present where the officers could find him, Aaron Hall returned to his home and went to bed, being thoroughly exhausted by the excitement and the exertion of walking so far.
