Croom, Enola (Jaggers)

An autopsy ordered by Prosecuting Attorney Jeff Mobley was performed Tuesday on the body of Mrs. Enola Jaggers Croom, 39, of Dardanelle, who died Monday night in a Little Rock hospital. Mobley said Wednesday that a telephone report on the autopsy ruled the death was due to natural causes. Sheriff Herman McCormick said that Mrs. Croom was found unconscious on the bedroom floor of their summer home on Mt. Nebo at about 8:30 Monday morning by her husband William H. Croom and a workman, Jonn McClarry, who was helping Croom work on a water pump. Sheriff McCormick said Croom had left the house before 6 a.m., had gone by to pick up McClarry, and the two bought parts for the pump at Dardanelle at about 8 a.m. before returning to the house. He said Croom heard Mrs. Croom groaning inside the house, found both screen doors locked and had to break one open to gain admittance. Sheriff McCormick said Mrs. Croom was lying face down on the floor unconscious and that she had slight bruises on her face. She was taken in a car to the Dardanelle hospital, where she was treated for about four hours before being taken in an ambulance to St. Vincents in Little Rock, where she died later. She never regained consciousness. Prosecuting Attorney Jeff Mobley said Wednesday that he had asked for an autopsy to determine the cause of death and whether or not there was evidence of foul play. He said that since the autopsy showed death due to natural causes and since officers found no evidence of any struggle, no inquest would be held.
