Castleberry, Tessie Lucille

Mrs. Tessie Lucille Castleberry, age 46, of Wichita, KS, formerly of Gravelly, wife of Dennus C. Castleberry, died Friday.

Other survivors include sons, Rex Lee, Kerry Wayne and Gregory Carroll Castel-berry, all of Wichita; her father and step-mother, Ted and Norah Gaston of Gravelly; her mother, Jewell Hampton of Wichita; two brothers, James Gaston of Ft. Smith, and Ronny Hampton of New Mexico; four sisters, June Payne of Ft. Smith, Buna Hawkins of Waldron, Brenda Austin, Harvey and Debbie Nickles of Tulsa, OK; Her grandmother, Amy Hogue of Gravelly.

Funeral Service, were held Tuesday, May 18th in the Briggsville United Methodist Church, with the Rev Clifton A Norrell; officiating, with internment in the Mt. Zion Cemetery at Briggsville. Castleberry, Virginia Virgie Carter

Mrs. Virginia Virgie Carter Castleberry, age 84 of Rover, AR, died Wednesday, January 6, 1988 at the Yell County Nursing Home in Ola, AR. She was a native of Rover, daughter of the late John and Ola Mae Billue Carter, a housewife and mother and a member of the Rover Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Camilla Castleberry Miles of Rover, AR; one sister, Katie Triplett of Upland, CA; also three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

W. H. Castleberry, age 61, died September 7 in Collins Park, New Mexico. He was born at Briggsville. He was married to Miss Neva Cathey, May 15, 1917, who survives him.

Castleberry, Willie Herbert

Willie Herbert Castleberry, age 65, resident of Tucson, died March 28, 1987. He was a veteran of World War II and was a retired Locksmith at the University of Arizona.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Castleberry of Tucson; a stepson, Ronald Olson of Oracle Junction, AZ; brother DennusDennus Carroll Castleberry of Wichita, KS; three sisters, Betty Jackson of Wichita, KS and Imogene Hunt and Clementine Pickering, both C Briggsville, AR.

Castleberry, Wm. Beecher

William Beecher Castleberry, age 83, of Danville died Friday afternoon, April 24, 1987 at the Yell County Hospital, he was a native of Briggsville, a cattleman, a member of the Danville First Baptist Church and the husband of the late Cordia Humphreys Castleberry. He was the son of the late John Wesley and Thursday Gladden Castleberry.

He is survived by two sons, Robert Beecher Castleberry of El Dorado and Bill Wesley Castleberry of Danville; one daughter, Elouise Laurie of Danville; one brother, John Henry Castleberry of Danville; one sister, Anna Sullivan of Briggsville and three grandsons.

Funeral services were held at the Danville First Baptist Church Monday afternoon with Rev. Bobby Walker officiating. Burial will be at the Earl Ladd Cemetery. Pallbearers were A. C. Mowery, Lilburn Arnold, Roy Gillespie, Ed Taylor, Ronnie Davis, Robert Thacker, Ray Horn and Mike McCormick. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Walter P. Harris, Dr. Roger Edmondson, Dr. Joe Victoroso, and the members of the Danville Sunday School Class, Arrangements were by Cornwell Funeral Service. Cates, Andrew Jackson (Jack)

Andrew Jackson (Jack) Cates, 66, of Danville died of a heart attack Wednesday afternoon near Plainview as he was driving toward Nimrod Lake, where he and Jim Cox were going fishing. Cox said that Cates suddenly stopped talking and slumped over dead. Cox grabbed the steering wheel and shut off the ignition and the truck came to a stop in a ditch.

Mr. Cates was born in Alabama and moved to Yell County when he was 14 years of age, where he has lived since. He was a carpenter and formerly a farmer. Cates, Brenda Sue (Tyler)

Brenda Sue Cates, age 55, of Rover passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at her home. She was born August 4, 1961 in Little Rock, Arkansas to the late James Frank & Bonnie Sue Hickman Tyler. She was retired from Wayne Farms.

She was preceded in death by her parents and son Billy Cates.

Survivors include her husband of 30 years, David Cates; stepson, Justin & Tracy Anderson of Leaksville, MS; mother-in- law, Sally Brown of Perryville; grandchildren, Joel David Cates and Shelbie Thomas; brother, James Tyler of Rover; niece Amanda & Marty Smith of Aly.

Clinton Cates, age 85, of Russellville died Sunday, April 1, 2012 at his home. He was born May 18, 1926 at Chickalah to the late Henry Edward and Nora Gideon Cates. He was a 50 year charter member of the Westside Church of Christ, a WWII Army Veteran, a member of the Disabled Veterans, Carpenters Union 1836 and a charter member of the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Lola Jewel Cates, age 96, of Belleville, AR passed away Thursday, October 4, 2007. She was born October 9, 1910 in Danville, AR to the late John and Ethel McGuran.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Coy Cates and children A. C., twins JoNelle and AnnaBelle, Bobby, Hayden, Eunice Moore and Billie Cook and 4 grandchildren and 1 great grand-grandchild.

He worked as a diesel mechanic in the trucking industry and owned his own shop in New Blaine, AR before retiring to Lakeview, Arkansas to ride his motorcycle and enjoy the outdoors, fishing and hunting. Hammerdown was a man of honor who believed that a good life was a happy life. He lived for his motorcycle club, The Vietnam Veterans Motorcycle Club and riding his Harley.

Alice Cathey, age 89, of Rover, departed this life Monday, December 19, 1968 at AMI St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville. She was the daughter of the late Alvis Lafayette and Hila Jane Turner Luker. She was a member of the Rover Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Glen Collins Cathey of Pico Rivera, CA; one daughter, Ruby Nelle Sanner of Monte Vista, CO; five brothers, Jack Luker, Buell Luker, AM Luker, Hugh Luker and Floyd Luker all of Oklahoma City, OK; eight sisters, Ruby McCurry of Dumas, Lillian McCurry of Plainview, Versa Denton of Oklahoma City, OK, Naomi Stewart and Ann Evans of Norman, OK, Velma Jean Welch of Quanah, TX; Joyce Marshall of Iowa Park, TX and Ellen Fryman of Allen, OK; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Cathey, Amy Tamer

Mrs. Amy Tamer Cathey was born in Walker County, Georgia, March 9, 1851, active until a month ago, died at the home of her son Collins, on March 4, 1933. Mrs. Cathey was married to N. S. Cathey Feb 7 1866 and lived all her married life in Arkansas.

To this union was born 4 girls and 9 boys of which Mrs. Margaret Burruss, Mrs. Amy Burruss, Collins, Steele and Edwin Cathey survive her and all were present at her death except Mrs. Amy Burruss. Aunt Tamer, as she was affectionately known was good Christian woman and to know her was to love her.

Cathey, Betty

Betty Cathey, 76, of Little Rock, formerly of Centerville, the widow of Erby L. Cathey, died Monday, September 5, 2005, at the Parkview Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Little Rock. A daughter of the late William Elgin and Mannie Lee Boyce Mason, she was born March 27, 1929, in Centerville. She retired as a case worker from the Arkansas Department of Human Services after working for over 25 years. She attended the Faith Church in Dardanelle and formerly attended the Center Assembly of God Church.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Mason.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Allen Alverson of Little Rock two grandchildren, Ryan and Mary Heather Alverson, both of Little Rock two sisters-in-law and a number of cousins, nephews, and nieces.

Graveside service and burial will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Birta Cemetery at Brita, AR. Arrangements are by Shinn Funeral Service. Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross. RUSSELLVILLE - Funeral for Mrs. Ellen Cathey, age 94, of Rover (Yell County), who died Monday, was today with arrangements by Shinn & Son Funeral Home of Russellville.

Cathey, Erby L.

Erby L. Cathey, age 76, of Centerville, AR died Saturday, December 7, 1996 at St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center in Little Rock. He was a son of the late Samuel Collins and Mary Ward Cathey, he was born January 12, 1920 at Briggsville, AR. He was a retired County Agricultural Agent, serving for three years in Fulton County, followed by twenty-five years in Izard County. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, serving as Staff Sergeant in the Artillery Division. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, was an alumni of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and was a Methodist.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Cathey; a daughter, Becky Alverson of Little Rock; and two grandchildren, Ryan and Heather Alverson also of Little Rock.

Cathey, Eva Mae

Miss Eva Mae Cathey, age 79 of Rt. l Ola, died Tuesday October 27th, 1981 in the St. Mary's Hospital to Russellville. She was a native of the Gilkey Community, daughter of the late James Walker and Mary Light Cathey, she was a farm lady and a member of the Rover Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held Thursday, October 29th, in the Rover Baptist Church, with Rev. James Johnson officiating with interment in the Hunt Cemetery in Rover, by Cornwell Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Bob Vess, Hugh Luker, Stanley Noon, John D. Anderson, W. T. Pugh and Roy Eden.

OLA - Miss Eva Mae Cathey, age 79, of Ola (Yell County) died Tuesday. She was a farmer and a Baptist (10-27-1981)

Survivors are two brothers, Lee Cathey of Ola and Ela Cathey of New Mexico, and a sister, Grace Albright of Texas.

Cathey, Glen Collins

Old Friends Die Two, Weeks Apart In California

Billy W. Mobley grew up on the Scrougeout Road between Bluffton and Briggsville. Glen Collins Cathey grew up in Briggsville. Both attended Fourche Valley School and were classmates and friends.

Billy accompanied the Buck King family to Modesto, CA when they moved there in 1943. Glen joined Billy in Modesto in 1944. Both served in the U. S. Army during the latter part of WWII and returned to California. Both loved living in California but cherished their roots in Yell County, Arkansas. They returned to Yell County every chance they got.

Billy returned in April this year to put his home place in good order. He was accompanied by his wife and sister, Glen wanted to make the trip back but was too weak. Both moved to Modesto. Billy moved to Whittier for several years and finally settled in Apple Valley. He was a successful businessman. Among his various enterprises were an English walnut farm and a welding school. Billy was born June 20th, 1927. He died August 18, 1995. He was the son of Edgar (Pud) Mobley and Martha Mobley. He is survived by his wife, Lucy; sons, Billy Michael Mobley of Hesperia, CA and Ronald Mobley of Dana Point, CA and by a stepson, Ray Kuykendall of Hesperia. Other survivors are his mother, Martha Mobley of Livermore, CA; a; brother, George Mobley of Winton, CA; a sister, Norma Lee Chapman of Livermore, CA; nine grand children and five great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Roger Purdy and the Montecello Masonic Lodge F&AM officiating. Interment was at Rose Hills Memorial Park.

Glen settled in Pico Rivera, CA and also had a residence in Las Vegas, NV. He retired after working 38 years for American-National Can Co. He was a member of the American Legion for 30 years. Glen was born November 2, 1926. He died September 2, 1995. He was the son of Tom Cathey and Alice Cathey.

He is survived by his wife, Johnie; a son, Dana Cathey of Pico Rivera; a sister, Ruby Nell Sanner of Monte Vista, CO and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held in Pico Rivera with final resting place in Las Vegas.

The Fourche Valley High School, class of 1945, had its 50th reunion June 17. Neither Billy nor Glen was able to attend. The rest of the class will always remember these two classmates fondly and will remember that they had the courage to head West when they were young to seek their fortune and they found it. Harry T. Cathey, age 74, passed away at his home in Norwalk, CA on May 27, 1999. He was a retired auto mechanic and was co-owner and operator of Bob's Union in Norwalk with his son, Bob, for 30 years.

He is survived by three sons, John E. Pvt. Hays Cathey, of Ola, Killed in Action. Pvt. Hays Cathey, son of Mrs. Carley E. Cathey, Ola, was killed in action in Italy September 13, 1943, his mother has been informed by the War Department. Private Cathey enlisted in November, 1942, went overseas in June, 1943. Private Cathey's company was the first to set foot on Sicilian soil during that invasion. In a special press Dispatch from Messina he was quoted as leaning his rifle against a wall, unhooking his pack from his tired shoulders, and looking over Messina's remains to remark: "Well, that's _ all; There ain't any more.' He was credited by Don Whitehead, Associated Press correspondent, of being the first soldier to enter the city.

The remains of Pvt. Hays W. Cathey, whose next of kin is Carley E. Cathey, Route 1, Ola, will be dispatched from the Memphis General Depot Friday, (tomorrow), July 23, 1948. Lieut.-Col. Dan L. Miller, chief of the Memphis General Depot's American' Graves Registration Division, made the announcement.

Escorted by an individual military escort, they will be delivered to the: Cornwell Funeral Home in Dardanelle. The estimated time of arrival in Dardanelle is 1:30 p. m., Friday, July 23, 1948.

Funeral services were held yesterday-morning for Irvin Cathey who died at the Exeter hospital Friday night. Mr. Cathey, a farm worker, was 52 years of age, and a native of Arkansas. Services were held yesterday in the Webb chapel with the Rev. Louis Hatfield of the Mission Baptist church of Tulare, officiating. Burial was in Olive cemetery.

Mr. Cathey is survived by his wife, Vada, of Lindsay; two sons, J. H. Cathey of Yuba City and J, L. Cathey of Lindsay; and one daughter, Mrs. Inez Bowen of Rover, Ark. Jeff Cathey, age 80, of Wilburton, passed away Wednesday, September 14, 1988. He was born December 4, 1907 in Chickasha, Ok. He married Dora Moye May 1984 in Wilburton. Mr. Cathey was retired as an employee for the State of Oklahoma and had worked for 25 years at Robber's Cave State Park in the maintenance department. He was also a Farmer and Rancher. He was married to Fathel Maxwell on March 23, 1929 at Wilburton. She preceded him in death on October 5, 1979.

Surviving relatives include a wife Dora of the home; 4 sons Chub Cathey, and Jimmy Dale Cathey; both of Wilburton, Joe Cathey of Howe, Ok. and Rex Cathey of Bache, Ok.; 2 daughters, Mavis Evans and Brenda Thrash, both of Wilburton; 2 brothers, J. W. Cathey of Oakland, Calif., and Junior Cathey of Wilburton; 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Friday, Sept. 16, 1988 at 10:00 a.m. at the Damon Cemetery, under the direction of Jones Funeral Home, Wilburton. Rev. Mrs. Jody Mae Cathey, age 84, of Rover, AR died Saturday, May 25, 1996 at Mitchell's Nursing Home in Danville. She was born October 1, 1911 in Rover, AR to the late Joe D. and Nora Bell Gladden Harmon. She was a homemaker and mother and member of the Rover Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by. her husband, Lee Cathey; one son, J. W. Cathey; two brothers, Eugene Harmon and Roy Harmon; two sisters, Lola Thaxton and Vera Hogan.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Joyce Cathey of Danville; a daughter, Margie Lee Hall of Ola; brother, Charlie Harmon of Dardanelle; sister, Tressie Gillum of California; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services were Monday, May 27, 1996 at the Rover Baptist Church with Rev. Jack McKinnon officiating. Interment was in the Hunt Cemetery, Rover by Cornwell Funeral Home of Danville. Funeral was at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Briggsville United Methodist Church by the Rev. Lee Hankins and the Rev. Hulen Wiser. Burial was in Mount Zion Cemetery. Cathey was born Wilburton on July 8, 1914. A veteran of World II, he was employed as welder in Oakland at the time of his death.

He is survived by one daughter, Connie Sue Cathey, Oklahoma City, his father, J. R. Cathey of Wilburton; four sisters, Mrs. Lola Lockerby, Mrs. Harris Johnson, Mrs. Gedeman? Brown? and Mrs. Venice Maxwell, all of Wilburton; and four brothers, Jeff Cathey, Dwite Cathey and Junior Cathey, Wilburton and J. W. Cathey, Oakland.
