Brown, William A.

William A. Brown, age 80 of Deltona, Florida died June 7, 2004. He was born June 18, 1923, at Chismville, Arkansas to Jim and Mamie Loughridge Brown. He was a native of Havana and a catholic. He served in the U. S. Marines during World War II. The retirement of Chief Master Sergeant Brown in October 1972 from the U. S. Air Force ended a distinguished and rewarding military career with over 30 years of active duty. Prior to retirement, Brown served as Chief Flight Engineer for the military airlift command. He was responsible for the development of policies and procedures for flight engineers on all M. A. C. Aircraft, advised the staff on all problems and recommended solutions, also representing headquarters M. A. C. at technical conferences with industry, others commands, and the Department of Defense. A veteran of more than 2 years in the air 1700 hours), he was a member of the design review panel for the 728,000 pound C-5A Galaxy. When production was completed on this Magnificent Aircraft, he along with General Jack J. Cotton flew the first operational model delivered to the Air Force. At retirement he was presented the meritorious service medal by General Paul K. Carlton.

He was preceded in death by his father, infant brother, and wives, Dora Adrah, and Josephine.

He is survived by his mother, Mamie Williams, Danville, Arkansas; a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Essam El-Shami, Deltona, Florida granddaughter and her husband, Dina and Teyton Yon. A sister and brother-in-law, Etta and Martin B. Foster, Jr. of Havana, step sister-in-law, Elwanda Williams of Malvern, step grandson, Gary Lohmann of Rockledge, Florida; step daughters, Jo Ann Murphy (Jim) Ft. Worth, TX., Mary Jo Swidak, (Steve) Teresa Ash (William), Andover, Kansas, Gladie Irwin, Wichita, Kansas several step grandchildren, nieces, nephews, one uncle, many cousins, and friends.

Browne, Marilu Tillmand

Marilu Tillmand Browne, age 88, of Perryville, AR died March 1, 1997. She was born October 11, 1908 in Plainview, AR, a daughter of Charles and Mary Ellison Tillman. She was a retired beautician and member of Perryville First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Hank Browne of Little Rock; her daughter, Libby Fowler of Adona, AR; one sister, Janice Stewart of Perryville; five grandchildren, Deborah Fowler of Columbia, SC, Robin Kilgore of Siloam Springs, AR, Jennifer, Mary and Laura Browne all of Little Rock; two great grandsons, Clay an Ben Kilgore both of Siloam Springs.

Bruce, Peggy Alean

Peggy Alean Bruce, age 66, of Atkins, AR died Sunday, January 20, 2008 in Russellville. She was born January 24, 1941, in Adona, AR daughter of Andrew and Stella Curry Vaughn. She was a homemaker, loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband, Jess Willard Bruce; two sons, Willard T. Bruce, Donnie Ray Bruce; daughters, Leona May Parrish, Brenda Sue Minga, Cathy A. Sisk, Donna Carter, Angela Vaughn, Charlene Vaughn; sisters, Joyce Willis, Carol Vaughn; 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 19 nieces and 11 nephews.

Funeral service was, Tuesday at Ada's Bells Chapel Assembly of God, the Rev. Chad Duvall officiating. Burial is at Bells Chapel Cemetery by Lemley Funeral Service. Bruce, Roy M. (Bud)

Roy M. (Bud) Bruce, age 73, of Albertville, AL, died Thursday, May 16, 2002 at Marshall Medical Center South.

He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. Will and Grace Bruce; and one sister Sue Chandler.

Survivors include his wife Ruth Baker Bruce; four sons and daughters-in-law, Ronny and Deb Bruce of Albertville Eddy and Sharon Bruce of Danville, AR, and Glenn and Beth Bruce and James and Linda Thacker of Crossville, AL; two sisters, Sharon Smith and Linda Bruce; two brothers, Ray Bruce and Coleman Bruce; eight grandchildren; and brother-in-law, the Rev. Boyce Chandler.

Services were held Sunday, May 19, 2002 at Albertville Memorial Chapel. Burial services followed at Kilpatrick Cemetery with Albertville Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. Brucker, Carl William

Carl William Brucker, age 86 of Russellville, died Saturday, March 22, 2008 at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center. He was born in Utica, N. Y. on September 18, 1921. He was a 1st Lt. in the US Army during World War II. He was employed by Western Union Telegraph as a division engineer for many years and a Real Estate Broker in West Milford, NJ. Over the years he was involved in many organizations including Y's Men, Rotary International, Kiwanis, Retired Western Union Employees, the local AARP chapter, Little League, Russellville Depot Restoration, Sharing and Caring, Meals on Wheels, and many activities in his churches including Church council president, Sunday School Superintendent, and District representative for the Lutheran Church Extension Fund.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Ida Brucker; his sisters, Harriet Jane Walton and Ruth Anna Cidoni and his daughter-in-law, Dana Brucker.

He is survived by his wife of almost 63 years, Janice Kunz Brucker; his sons, Carl William Jr. & Melissa Brucker, Stephen Frederick Brucker; daughter, Patricia Ann (Brucker) & William Feiner; sister, Charlotte & Paul Williams; brother-in-law, F. Douglas Walton and nieces and nephews.

Brumley, Mable

Mable Brumley, age 82, of Waldron, AR died Saturday, March 20, 2004 at her home. She was a retired nurse's aide and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Fraternal Order of Eagles.

She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Rockie Goodwin of Waldron, AR, Linda and Bill Brock of Fort Smith, AR and Susie Await of Muldrow, OK; a son, Freddie Brumley of Waldron, AR; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Emma Ruth Brunt, age 74, of Danville, AR died Monday, March 5, 2007 at Mitchell Nursing Home in Danville, AR. She was born in Memphis, TX on February 15, 1933 to Doke and Lessie Pool Reynolds.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 50 years, J. G. Brunt and two sisters, Laverne Sneed and Joann Reynolds.

She is survived by a daughter, Virginia Brunt; grandson, Billy Maples of NM; two sisters, Johnnie Long of CA and Shirley and Don Cloud of NM and three brothers, Billy and Ethel Reynolds of Charleston; Winford and Betty Reynolds of Russellville and Don and Ann Reynolds of Danville, AR.

Bryan, Marjorie G.

Marjorie G. Bryan, age 70, of Briggsville, AR died Friday, January 25, 2002 at her home in Briggsville after a long illness of cancer and rheumatoid arthritis. She was born April 9, 1931 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late William and Inez Moore Gray. She was a homemaker and mother and a member of the Wing Community Church.

Survivors are her husband of 47 years, Ernie Bryan; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Charlotte Bryan of Pottsville, AR and Bob and Lynn Bryan of Wing, AR; a sister, Francis Ferritto of Cleveland, OH and a grandchild, Bobby Bryan of wing.

Bertha Edith Bryant, age 92 of Pottsville, formerly of Belleville, Arkansas died Tuesday, August 5, 2003 at Pottsville. She was born in Fisher, Arkansas on February 9, 1911, daughter of the late Elmer and Alma Elizabeth Johnson Furrow. She was a mother and homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Claudis M. Bryant.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Nolen and Bonnie Bryant of Havana, AR; four daughters and sons-in-law, Fay and Earl Patton of Houston, AR, Cathryn Patton of Perryville, Claudine Roth Highfill of Russellville, Sharon and Jerry Porter of Pottsville; 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Bryant, Charles R.

Charles R. Bryant, 71, of Leicester, NC died February 23, 1998 in an Asheville, NC hospital. He was a retired teacher in Maryland and was the youngest of the eleven children of Horace and Cordelia Hatley Bryant of Braggadocio, MO. He was a veteran of WWII, a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Asheville and the Men's Garden club. He was a master gardener volunteer with the Cooperative Extension Service and a former volunteer at the NC Arboretum.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Dorothy Gillum Bryant formerly of Danville, AR); and four sisters, Billie Harris and Rose Singletery of Leicester, NC, Vernell Hamilton of Long view, TX and Ruth Landrum of New Orleans, LA.

Cleo Edell Bryant, age 64, of Tulsa, OK died April 13, 1987 at the V. A. Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He was the son of the late Monroe and Rena Green Bryant, a native of Rover, a veteran of World War II and Korea and a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Alva Bryant; two brothers, Gilbert Bryant of Ola and Edward Bryant of Gilkey.

Ed Bryant, age 62, of Russellville, AR died Wednesday, December 22, 1999 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville. He was born July 2, 1937 at Little Rock, AR, the son of the late Otis and Frances Oliver Bryant. He was a retired oil field engineer and a Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He married Sharon John on June 3, 1983 at Hitchin, England.

Mr. Gilbert C. Bryant, age 85, of Danville, AR died Friday, March 24, 1995 at St. Vincent's Infirmary in Little Rock. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church, retired from the U. S. Forestry Service. He was born December 24, 1909 in Yell County to the late Monroe and Rena Green Bryant.

Survivors include one son, Tommy Bryant of Abingdon, VA; one brother, Edward Bryant of Plain-view, AR; two grandsons and one great-granddaughter; also included several nieces and nephews.

Bryant, Lindsey Lee

Lindsey Lee Bryant, age 73, of Benton, AR died Wednesday, July 25, 2007. He was born June 19, 1934 in Centerville, AR to the late Thomas Benton Bryant and Mabel Harkey. He was a retired Little Rock Fireman, a U. S. Air Force veteran, and was of the Church of Christ faith.

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mabel Kimbell and Betty Blank, brother-in-law, Joe Howard, half-brother, Claudis Bryant, and great granddaughter, Aspen Bryant.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Bryant of Benton; two daughters, Rhonda Bryant of Bryant and Anita Engelmohr of Benton; two grandsons, Brandon Bryant and Hayden Engelmohr; one great granddaughter, Aliyah Bryant; one sister, Doris Howard of California; one brother, Doyle Bryant of California, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral service was July 28, 2007 in the chapel of Roller-Ballard Funeral Home, with Bro. Jerry Hood officiating. Interment was in Havana Cemetery in Havana, AR. Marvin Lee Bryant, age 60 of Kingston, AR passed away Wednesday, March 5, 1997 at Chambers Memorial Hospital in Danville. He was born October 16, 1939 in Kingston, son of the late C. E. and Maggie White Bryant. He was a farmer and a Baptist.

Bryant, Thelma

Mother Fatally Injured Trying To Save Boy - Mrs. Thelma Bryant, 23, wife of Jackson Garland Bryant of Plainview died February 21, 1952 at a Pine Bluff hospital at 9:30 p. m. from injuries sustained one hour earlier in an effort to save her child from injury. State Patrolman Files said Bryant was driving about 25 miles per hour four miles south of Grady when the couple's four year old son, Billy Ed Bryant, fell from the car. The mother leaped after him and struck the pavement head first. The boy was bruised slightly.

Bryant, Vernell

Vernell Bryant, age 67 of Gilkey, died Sunday, January 1, 2006 at Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock. She was born in Kingston on April 18, 1938 to the late Vernon and Mary Elizabeth Crabill Forrest. She retired after many years of service in nursing and dietary at Chambers Memorial Hospital in Danville.

Bryant, William Monroe

William Monroe Bryant, Rt. 1 Ola (Gilkey) son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bryant, was born in Alabama November 1, 1882, and died in the Danville hospital May 23 at the age of 68.

He was married to Miss Rena Green September 7, 1907. To this union was born 10 children, seven of whom are living. In addition to his widow, survivors include seven sons, Gilbert of Plainview, Opal of Rover, Hubert of Rt. 1, Ola, Cleo, with the Army of Occupation in Japan, Edward of Camp Chaffee, and Millard and Olen of the home; two grand children; three brothers, C. Bryne, Peter

Aged Man Burned To Death As Fire Destroys Home - Peter Bryne, age 86, was burned to death Tuesday night as his home near Cedar Creek was destroyed by flames. Neighbor noticed the fire and discovered his body in the ruins, near where the door had been, with a five gallon oil can nearby. Mr. Bryne, a native of Canada, was living by himself and had no relatives.

Bryson, Laverne D.

L. D. Bryson Dies Suddenly of Heart Attack - Danville Electrician, Laverne D. Bryson, age 59, operator of an electric shop in Danville, died of heart attack Wednesday afternoon, January 7, 1948. Mr. Bryson and Jimmy Patterson, who was employed in the electric shop, were returning from a job in Plainview, with Jimmy driving the car, when Mr. Bryson suddenly said he was going to faint. Jimmy stopped the car, about half way between Plainview and Danville on the mountain road, but was unable to revive Mr. Bryson and drove to the Danville Clinic Hospital. Mr. Bryson was reported dead upon arrival at the hospital. Mr. Bryson, who was formerly a machinist in Houston, had been subject to heart attacks for the past several years, Mr. and Mrs. Bryson moved to Yell County in 1945 from Houston, and formerly lived at Davenport, Iowa.

He is survived by his wife; four sons, Allen, Bud, Don and Richard Bryson, all of California; his mother, Mrs. Grace Bryson Robinson of California; one brother, George Bryson and one sister, Mrs. Otis Hemphill, both of California.

Bryson, Pauline

Pauline Bryson, age 99, of Smithville, TX, formally of Danville, died Tuesday, April 30, 2002 in Towers Nursing Home in Smithville. She was a retired beauty operator. She was born in TX on November 5, 1902 and was the daughter of the late Robert Walter and Charlotte Hall Green.

Survivors include a grandson, granddaughter, several great grandchildren, and a nephew.

Buchanan, Jennie

Mrs. Jennie Buchanan, age 80 years, passed away Wednesday morning, September 20, 1950 at her home in the Waltreak community. Mrs. Buchanan was born in the Waltreak community and with the exception of two years that she lived in Danville lived there all her life. She was faithful member of the Methodist Church.

Her husband and their three children had preceded her in death.

Funeral services were conducted at the Waltreak cemetery by Rev. T. R. Whiddon of Danville, Rev. George Owens of Ola and Rev. John M. Millard of Blue Ball.

Buckles, Doug Arlo

Doug Arlo Buckles, age 54, of Atkiis, AR died Saturday, March 9, 1996 at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center Russellville. He was born in Southgate, CA on May 22, 1941. He served in the US. Navy and was a supervisor P. O. M. in Russellville.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Breashears.

Survivors include his parents, Dale and Virginia Buckles of Las Vegas, NV and Alyce M. and Ned Breashears of Belleville; two daughters, Karla Buckles and Amber Walker of Morrilton; two brothers, Stephen Buckles of Charleston and John Breashears of Tulsa, OK; six grandchildren; his companion, Sherry Reel, of Atkins and tier children, Kendra Reel and Tony Reel, both of Atkins.

Lena Mae McConnell Buckman, age 81 of Danville, died Thursday, January 15, 2004 at Mitchell's Nursing Home in Danville. She was born September 9, 1922 in Oklahoma to the late Herbert and Margaret Autrey Corley. She was a homemaker and mother.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Woodrow McConnell and Gloyd Buckman; three sons, Kenneth, Jerry and Leroy McConnell; a grandson, Steven McConnell and a great-grandson, Brandon McClure.

Survivors include two sons, James and Darrell McConnell of Booneville; two daughters, Mary Cochran & Ann Baker, both of Russellville; twelve grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.

Rachel Buckman, age 88, of Havana, died Sunday, December 21, 1997 at Chambers Memorial Hospital in Danville, AR. She was the 14th child of 15 children of the late Noble J. and Addie Ferguson Buckman. She was a retired school teacher, a graduate of Arkansas State Teacher College, a life member of the Arkansas Retired Teachers Association, a member of the A E A, and the Havana Methodist Church.

Survivors include a sister, Irene Hiner of Florida; several nieces and nephews, including Jack Buckman of Ola and Dorothy Dickson of Havana.

Funeral service was December 22nd at the Havana Methodist Church. Burial was in the Havana Cemetery. Buckman, William A.

The body of S. Sgt. William A. Buckman, son of James E. Buckman of Havana, is among 2,972 Pacific War dead who arrived at San Francisco yesterday, February 11, aboard the U. S. Army Transport Cardinal O'Connel. S. Sgt. Buckman is the second Yell County war dead to be returned to the u. S. The body of Pvt. Jesse Tidwell arrived in Danville December 11, 1947. The body will be shipped from San Francisco to the Memphis General Depot's distribution center, where an individual military escort of the same rank, race, arm of service and religious belief (the latter wherever possible) as the deceased will be assigned to escort the casket to the home of the parents, according to information received from the Memphis General Depot's American Graves Registration Division. Buckman, William Arnold

Rites Held for Soldier Returned from Overseas for burial. Funeral Services for William Arnold Buckman were held at the Havana Methodist Church Tuesday, March 2, with Rev. Billy Dennis, pastor, in charge. S/Sgt. Buckman's body was returned from the Shofield Mausoleum in Hawaii for burial in Havana. Sgt. Buckman was born in Havana 1922 and was inducted into the army upon completion of high school there in 1942. He received training at Keelson Field, Miss. at Will Run, Michigan and at Harlington field, where he received his aerial gunner's wings. He was sent to India in February of 1944 and to China in April. He was killed in action in China on June 13, 1944.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Buckman of Havana; four sisters, Mrs. Lalle Dohlstom, Gardena, Calif., Mrs. Imogene Brinckmeyer, Russellville, Mrs. Billie Sue Lassiter, Havana, and Betty Lou of the home; and four brothers, N. J. Buckman, Havana, James, in the army at Williams Field, Ariz. Jack, Gardena, Calif. and Raymond of the home. Military services were conducted by the Forrester-Buckman American Legion Post at Havana.
